Make Your First 3D Video Game! (Central Campus/ Hillsboro)

Try this new version of a Black Rocket classic! This class allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes and create an immersive 3D world. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay, and storytelling. Student created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

Model Airplanes - Bridge Building - Electronic Gadgets (North Campus/Wilmington)

Build your own rubber-powered model airplane. Use your model as a learning tool in aerospace education, or just have fun building a sound airplane that actually flies when assembled. Have fun designing and building model bridges. Join us in our bridge building contest to see which one can hold the most weight. Learn simple engineering skills. Build 6 electronic projects. Some of them include a patrol car siren, burglar alarm and Morse Code transmitter. You will learn how the different electronic components work. Bring a little imagination and get ready to “Fly with Sciensational Workshops.”

Arcade Electronics Galore (Central Campus/ Hillsboro)

Get ready to build and play your own arcade games and more. You will have at your disposal, resistors, switches, wires, LED diodes, transistors and more. Do not get overwhelmed. Building with electronics is fun. You will program the spinning light fan to display different sayings. Build and play a Home Run Derby game. See who gets the most home runs before getting 10 outs. A winning song will cheer. Build circuits to test your memory. Build an electronic circuit that plays the card game 21. You can learn to program the circuit board to emit different funky sounds. Play with the disco ball, sirens, or a light show. Learn the effects of the different electronic components. Learn what amps, volts, resistance and power are. Yes, this is Sciensational Workshops learn by doing. That is STEM.

Minecraft Modders (North Campus/Wilmington)

Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. To access their project at home students must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

App Adventures: The Next Level! (Central Campus/ Hillsboro)

Continue your quest to make the next viral app! Whether you want to move past the basic techniques learned in App Attack or want to jump right in, we are ready for you! Students will choose from a selection of different web-based (HTML5) mobile apps and explore more in-depth programming concepts. Student projects will be accessible on a Black Rocket site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to App Stores not included. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

Robotic Arm Science (North Campus/Wilmington)

Learn the science of robotics as you have fun building, commanding and taking home your own 5 motor arm! With your Robotic Arm you can command your gripper to open and close, move your robotic wrist, elbow, base and command vertical and horizontal reaching moves. Your robot will be equipped with 100 grams of lifting capacity. Additional features include a search light on the gripper for night operation. With your Robotic Arm you will have total command and visual manipulation using the five switch wired controller. Plus, have fun building a wide range of additional robotic designs with the robotic building system. Participate in our robot Olympic style challenges, robot battles and more!

CSI Crime Investigation (Central Campus/ Hillsboro)

You will be the super science sleuths. Have fun learning about forensics, crime scene investigations, and crime lab chemistry as you perform as many as 15 different experiments designed to show you just how those tricky cases are solved. Search for the evidence, gather clues, and discover how science can help solve a mystery. Participants will: Dust for fingerprints, analyze handwriting, test for blood type using simulated blood, examine hair and clothing fibers, practice chemistry to identify mystery substances and much more. Participants will then use their skills to solve crimes of the century.

Minecraft Animators (North Campus/Wilmington)

Bring your favorite Minecraft characters to life in an animated short film! Learn how studios like Pixar and Disney make movies like Inside Out and Frozen by using techniques like keyframing, tweening, texturing, and animating rigged 3D models! Student projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. You do not need to own a Minecraft account to use the software in this class. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Mac users can play their project at home, but will not be able to edit the project without a PC. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.
