DECIMALBASICS
A FRACTION IS BASICALY A DECIMAL WRITTEN DIFFERENTLY. A DECIMAL HAS A WHOLE NUMBER, A
DOT CALLED A DECIMAL POINT, AND A DECIMAL PART. THE DECIMALS WHICH COME NEXT TO THE
DECIMAL POINT ARE ALWAYS TEN TIMES LARGE AS THE NUMBER TO THE LEFT OF IT. FOR EXAMPLE, LOOK AT THE DECIMAL ON THE RIGHT. IT SHOWS
HOW NUMBERS ARE GETTING TEN TIMES LARGER.
HUNDREDS OF A DECIMAL
A hundred of a decimal is the number on the right of the decimal point,
also known as the dot, and it is the second number on the right. Look below to see where a hundred of a decimal is placed. The hundredth is
label and is blue.
DECIMALS ARE FRACTIONS
DECIMALS AND FRACTIONS ARE DEFINETLY TWINS. HOW? YOU ASK.
WELL, YOU READ THEM THE SAME WAY. FOR EXAMPLE, 3/100 AND 0.03 ARE BOTH READ AS THREE HUNDREDS. ALSO, YOU CAN ALWAYS WRITE A FRACTION AS A DECIMAL AND A
DECIMAL AS A FRACTION. HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES…
TENTHS OF A DECIMALA tenth of a decimal is greater than a hundredth. That’s impossible! You say. Well, its not. When you and I hear 10
and 100 we say 100 is greater. In this case, that is not accurate. When you are using decimals, a tenth is bigger because if you divide something into 10 equal parts and something into 100 equal parts, you see the tenths are larger. This is true because as you know, decimals are fractions and to figure out what we just did, decimals would need to be twins with fractions or we would get
another similarity answer.
Now that you know tenths are greater than hundredths, you can learn more about tenths. Tenths are the number right next to the decimal point on the right. Here is an example
of a tenth…
RELATE TENTHS AND HUNDREDTHS
When relating tenths and hundredths, you need to know if you have a tenth of a
decimal, such as 0.3, you can ,make it 3 hundredths by adding a zero. When you
do this, you will learn that even by adding a zero to the hundredths spot, your original decimal and new decimal
will be equal. Look below:0.7=0.700.9=0.900.5=0.500.3=0.30
REMEMBER
DECIMALS
ARE
FRACTIONS!

DECIMAL CONCLUSION
Decimals are definitely a wonder. They are needed in many
situation. I hope you learned tons about decimals! In our next learning video we will learn
more about decimals and different types. KEEP LEARNING!!
