FARMLANDThe agricultural land extends to 219.82 acres (88.96 hectares) or thereby, lying between 190m to 280m above sea level. The farm is ring fenced, albeit the A76 cuts through the lower section. On the better land of Mid Lowes the soil is remarkably light with a sandy subsoil base. The land classification ranges from Class 4.1 to 5.2 according to the James Hutton Institute’s Land Capability for Agriculture Classification. All the land is laid to grass, with 46.23 acres (18.71ha) of silage and aftermath grazing, 145.55 acres (59.61ha) of good permanent pasture (PGRS) and 28.04 acres (10.64ha) of rough grazing (RGR). The improved grass fields are capable of growing cereal crops, and are all south-west facing.
