Christ's high priestly role also shows His sovereignty, for He alone qualifies for this position. PRACTICAL POINTS: 1. We know our High Priest can enter God’s holy presence, for He is God (Hebrews 4:14). 2. Our High Priest is able to relate to us because He has been tempted as we have (Hebrews 4:15). 3. Because of our High Priest, we can be confident that God will give us mercy and grace (Hebrews 4:16). 4. All other high priests in history have had to offer sacrifices for their own sins (Hebrews 5:1-3). 5. Jesus was appointed by God to be our High Priest forever in the order of Melchizedek (Hebrews 5:4-6). 6. Jesus was heard because of His reverence and obedience to the Father (Hebrews 5:7-10). CONCLUDING THE LESSON: Because Jesus Christ is our Great High Priest, we can come boldly before Him. He will not turn us away, because we come before Him in Christ’s righteousness. For us, His throne is not a throne of judgment and condemnation (Romans 8:1, Revelation 20:11) but rather a place to find grace, mercy, and help. As we close our session today, let us spend some time before the throne of grace. Jesus knows what we are going through, so He can help us.

“The Great High Priest”

Lesson: Hebrews 4:14—5:10

GOLDEN TEXT:

“Seeing then that we have a great High Priest, that is passed into

the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession” (Hebrews

4:14).

TODAY’S AIM:

“To understand Jesus’ role as the Great High Priest who can help all believers.”

INTRODUCING THE LESSON:

Our legal system today gives great prominence to the role of an

attorney or a public advocate. These people represent us or come to

our aid when we have a need or face a difficulty.

Have you had occasion to use the services of an attorney or and

advocate? How did that person help you?

Understanding the role of an attorney or advocate helps us better

understand the role of Jesus Christ as our Great High Priest who

can handle our needs. Christ's high priestly role also shows His

sovereignty, for He alone qualifies for this position.

PRACTICAL POINTS:

1. We know our High Priest can enter God’s holy presence, for He

is God (Hebrews 4:14).

2. Our High Priest is able to relate to us because He has been

tempted as we have (Hebrews 4:15).

3. Because of our High Priest, we can be confident that God will

give us mercy and grace (Hebrews 4:16).

4. All other high priests in history have had to offer sacrifices for

their own sins (Hebrews 5:1-3).

5. Jesus was appointed by God to be our High Priest forever in the

order of Melchizedek (Hebrews 5:4-6).

6. Jesus was heard because of His reverence and obedience to the

Father (Hebrews 5:7-10).

CONCLUDING THE LESSON:

Because Jesus Christ is our Great High Priest, we can come boldly before Him.
