Sports Interest Meeting
For all interested 6th, 7th, and 8th
grade students that hope to
participate in one of FIVE Spring
Sports offerings, there is a
Sports Interest Meeting to be
held in our auditorium on
Monday, February 24th at
6:30pm.
Come meet coaches, ask
questions, and see what other
Pumas are your potential
teammates.
Do you have B-Ballin skills? Can you drain threes like Steph? Can you
dominate the paint like LeBron? Can you pass like Magic? Prove it.
The cost is $15 per player. $60 per team. No more than 2 boys players from
an active MSAC roster can play on any one team. For the ladies, up to 3
active roster players may be on a team. Players may come from outside of
Short Pump, but must be registered middle school students, under 15
years of age and be in good academic standing.
On Friday, February 21st @
6:00pm, SPMS will host a 4 on 4
Puma Hoopfest to see who can
take the title as Short Pump's
best.
Entry is simple. Pick up an
entry form in our main office.
Follow the rules outlined in the
form. Find your team. Select
your team name. Dress the
part. Be ready to play in a
multi-level tournament for
school bragging rights.
SPANISH and FRENCH STUDENTS NEED HOST FAMILIES IN JULY!!!
Share your heart and home this summer! Host a student from Spain or
France (ages 13-17) in your home for 3-4 weeks. Learn about their culture
while he or she learns about living in an American family just being a part of
what you regularly do. We have a variety of programs to suit your family’s
work or non-working schedule. Families receive stipends to help out with
expenses. We can help work out transportation or vacation concerns. This will
be a treasured memory for your family!

It’s not too late to register your rising 8th grader for the Deep Run High School Marching band as either a musician or a color guard member!
A few of the many benefits to joining the marching band include: • It’s a great way for middle schoolers to make friends during the summer, then have upper class friends on the 1st day of freshman year! • It’s great exercise and a lot of fun! • It provides opportunities to develop leadership skills & sharpen problem solving skills. • It looks great on a college application. • It requires discipline and dedication, instilling a mental fortitude and work ethic that will serve the student throughout his or her life. • Multiple studies have demonstrated that kids who learn music are more adept at language & math. • Marching band is a crash course in time management. If students manage it all in middle & high school, they will likely be able to handle a packed schedule in whatever they do beyond high school. Please feel free to contact Amy Chapman or Ginny Travis if you are interested in discussing how the
Deep Run Marching Band might be a good fit for your son or daughter. But hurry, as scheduling for next year ends soon!

New Variance Deadlines for Middle & High Schools in 2020 Elementary & Middle Schools – April 15, 2020
High Schools – February 17, 2020
What is a Variance? School-age children who reside with their parents/guardians in Henrico County are required to attend the school that serves the area in which their parents/guardians live. However, certain circumstances stated in school board Regulation R6-03-011 allow a parent/guardian to apply for a variance for their child to attend another Henrico County school for a single school year. Applying for a variance does not guarantee one will be granted. Where can I get information or a variance application? Detailed information can be found in HCPS policy regulations at https://henricoschools.us/policies-regulations/ in “P6-03-011 and R6-03-011 School Assignment/Variance Procedures”. Forms are also available in the main office. Deadline exceptions per policy: Exception #1: The parents of a child who move into Henrico County after February 15 or April 15, as applicable, shall enroll the child in his or her zone school and shall have 30 calendar days following the date the student first enrolls in the zone school to submit a completed variance request to the principal of the zone school. Exception #2: The high school deadline does not apply for students who are eligible to receive a variance due to special program enrollment, such as ROTC.
