options for use with Hybrid cars, plus thedefault setting for tach or tachless operation.

Hybrid Car 1: Requires connection to a fuelinjector, coil pack or crank position sensor. The system will automatically learn the tachthe first time the vehicle is started. The startwire acts as the trigger to enter learn mode. After the system has been successfullyremote started, the tach input will no longerbe monitored for the remainder of the runcycle.

Hybrid Car 2: Requires no connection of thetach wire. Upon remote start activation, thestarter output will crank for two secondsthen turn off.

Tach and Tachless operation: Requiresconnection to a fuel injector, coil pack orcrank position sensor. For tach operation, the system monitors the start wire and thetach setting will automatically learn when thecar is first started after installation. For somenew GM and Chrysler vehicles that do nothave a start wire, manual tach learning isnecessary (see Manual Learn Mode). ForTachless operation no connection to thetach wire is necessary. When first startingthe vehicle after installation the tach settingwill automatically be learned and the systemwill respond with light flashes and hornhonks to confirm. The tach must be learnedprior to remote starting!

• The lights will flash and horn will honk2 times to confirm tach learning.

• The lights will flash and horn will honk4 times to confirm tachless operation.

• The lights will flash and horn will honk7 times to indicate nothing was learned.

2. Over Crank Adjustment. There may byinstances where normal tach learning maystill slightly over or under crank the starter. To correct an over crank condition, usesetting 2 to increase the tach setting by 10%.Test the system and if necessary adjust using

feature 2 again and repeat until properoperation is achieved.

3. Under Crank Adjustment. To correct anunder crank condition, use setting 3 todecrease the tach setting by 10%. Test thesystem and if necessary adjust using feature 2again and repeat until proper operation isachieved.

4. Tach Wait. Selects between a 300ms wait,750ms wait, or no wait (default) afterstarting to begin monitoring the tach signal.

Menu 41. Ignition 2 Relay Programming. Sets theIgnition 2 relay for use as a 2nd Starteroutput, 2nd Accessory output or 2nd Ignitionoutput (default).

2. Door Lock Control For Factory Alarm. This feature allows three different door lockcontrol functions to aid integration withfactory security systems. Setting 1 pulsesunlock before start and pulses lock bothafter starting and after shutdown. Setting 2pulses the lock only after remote startshutdown. Setting 3 provides only normaldoor lock pulses for the lock/unlock output.

3. Start Settings. Selects between multiplestart options for both diesel and gasolineengine types.

Setting 1: (-) Glow Plug Monitor / 20-SecondTimer Mode. For vehicles with a wait-to-start wire that shows ground when the indi-cator light goes out, connect to the propervehicle wire and set Engine Type to setting 1.For diesel engines where a proper glow plugwire cannot be located, setting 1 also pro-vides a 20-second wait-to-start timer whichautomatically cranks the starter after a 20-second warm up period for the glow plugs.

Setting 2: External Start Input (+). Setting 2allows to vehicle to automatically start whenit receives a positive (+) input the Blue glowplug input wire.

10

Setting 3: Gasoline Engine / (+) Glow PlugMonitor Mode. This is the default setting forall gas engines. For vehicles with a wait-to-start wire that shows +12V when the indica-tor light goes out, connect to the propervehicle wire and set Engine Type to setting 3.

4. Factory Alarm Rearm Pulse. Sets the tim-ing of the factory alarm reaming pulse to oneof three settings: pulse only with lock, onlyafter remote starting (use for defroster orheated seat activation), or pulse with lockand after remote start shutdown.

5. Engine Run Time. Selects between 4, 45,and 15 minute run cycles.

6. Start Button. Selects whether the systemremote start with 1 or 2 presses of button 4.

7. LED Function. Selects whether or not theLED flashes as theft deterrent after thedoors are locked using button1.

REMOTE START NOTESTach and Tachless StartingIn order for the system to properly start andrun the vehicle, the unit must be able todetermine if the engine is cranking or if theengine is actually running. For non-hybridvehicles the system is equipped with twomeans of detecting the engine’s run status:Tach Start and Tachless Start. The systemdetects if a tach wire is connected and thensets the proper mode automatically. In eithermode, the system must properly learn thevehicle’s engine characteristics before theremote start can function. See Engine LearningThe Tach Start feature requires connectionto the vehicle’s tachometer wire, coil wire oran injector wire. The Tach Start provides reli-able operation with virtually any vehicle, evenin extreme temperatures.

The Tachless Start feature detects theengine’s run status using specially designedsoftware that interprets certain characteris-

tics of the engine, without connection to thevehicle’s tach wire. This feature allows fasterinstallation, but may not be work as well withall vehicles, or in extreme temperatures.

ENGINE LEARNINGAuto Learn ModeAfter completing installation, follow thesesteps to automatically “learn” the engineoperation. This “learns” proper tach signal orTachless mode operation. It is important tonote that while this auto method works finefor most vehicles, a few vehicles may haveproblems properly remote starting if theengine idle speed was too high when the tachsignal was learned. For these instances, seethe Manual Learn Mode and adjust for overor under cranking (see Cranking Adjustments). To auto learn the tach setting after complet-ing the installation, simply start the enginewith the key. The system will flash the lightsand honk the horn to confirm the setting.

• The lights will flash and horn will honk 2times to confirm tach learning.

• The lights will flash and horn will honk 4times to confirm tachless operation.

• The lights will flash and horn will honk 7times to indicate nothing was learned.

NOTE: If the tach setting is not properlylearned, see Manual Learn Mode and followthe steps as shown.

Manual Learn ModeThe manual learn mode aids in setting thetach signal for vehicles which may notremote start properly after auto learning. Ifthe system responded with 7 light flashes andhorn honks after attempting to auto learnthe tach setting, follow the steps below tomanually set the system. Also, be sure tocheck for factory anti-theft systems thatmust be bypassed before the remote start

• The lights will flash and horn will honk

2 times to confirm tach learning.

• If the tach wire is not connected, thelights will flash and horn will honk 4times to confirm tachless learning.

4. Manual learning is complete.

If the vehicle still does not start after remotestart activation, the parking lights will flash adiagnostic code to indicate the problem. SeeRemote Start Diagnostic Indications below.

REMOTE START DIAGNOSTIC INDICATIONSIf the remote starter does not activate and attempt to start the vehicle when the start button ispressed, the parking lights and LED will flash a diagnostic code to identify the problem.

DIAGNOSTIC EVENT MEMORYIn case the remote start cranks but fails to start and stay running or shuts down prematurely, a diag-nostic event is created and stored in memory. The last four diagnostic memory events may recalledby turning the ignition on and off, then pressing the valet switch once. The parking lights will flash 3times and the horn will honk (if installed) the same number of times as the number of events in mem-ory (up to 4). If the horn does not honk, there are no events stored.

Press the valet switch once to check the last diagnostic code. The horn will honk to indicate the firstcode and the LED will flash a number of times equal to the shutdown code. Continue this procedureto view up to 4 events.

Once the diagnostic memory is full it must be cleared by pressing the valet switch for 5 seconds whilein the diagnostic memory mode. The parking lights will flash and horn will honk once to indicate thememory is cleared.
