Happy February! We have all recovered from the holidays and are getting ready for a fun February! Here at HarborChase, we are very excited that Angela Fagg, LPN is our Director of Resident Care! Please join me in congratulating her on her promotion which she truly deserves. Angel is so excited to have her as the DRC!

New on the calendar this month is a “New Technology” Class — someone to show us all how to use our iPods, Tablets and iPhones. I just hate having to ask my children how something works on my phone !! They give me “that look” — you know which one I am talking about !!

Events this month include celebrating “Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday/Shrove Tuesday!” Whatever name you like... there is an event that day on the calendar for it!

Mark your calendars for our “Love is in the Air” event to celebrate Valentines Day on February 11th, from 6:30pm to 8pm. There will be live entertainment, decadent desserts and beverages for residents and family members! Needless to say, chocolate will be the main ingredient for us all to enjoy!

When you are taking your loved one to any medical appointment, whether it be the doctor or dentist... Please let the nurse or the medication technician know and they will give you paperwork for the doctor to complete so we are aware what is happening with our resident. Then there are no surprises in the event of an emergency.

Welcome to HarborChaseThis month, we would like to welcome Ms. Evelyn King! Ms. King was born in

Rome, GA, then attended school in Cave Springs, GA. Moving from one small country town she moved to another! After school she found that she loved to work, moving around and enjoying several different occupations. What shines through in Ms. King the most is the love for her family. She is very blessed to have 5 beautiful children. Four girls, and one boy!

Ms. King would definitely call herself a “Georgia Peach” and gets her “Fashion & Flair” from her mother. Ms. King says she is loving HarborChase, and everyday she enjoys it more! She especially enjoys some of the fun activities! The staff and residents have made her feel welcome, and have shown lots of kindness.

Whisk together the wheat flour, egg whites, milk, salt,

and oil in a large bowl until smooth. Lightly coat a skillet

with cooking spray and place over medium heat. Pour 1/4

cup of the batter into the skillet. Tilt the pan in a circular

motion to allow the batter to spread to the edges. Cook

until the bottom is light brown, about 2 minutes. Flip the

crepe and place 2 tablespoons of the mixed berries in the

center of the crepe; cook another 2 minutes. Fold the crepe

in half and remove with a spatula to a serving plate. Dust with

confectioners’ sugar and serve.

Mardi Gras: February 9, 2016Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday.” It was named this

because all butter and fats had to be used up by Shrove Tuesday, the day before the start of Lent. Carnival time includes the period between Epiphany or Twelfth Night (12 days after Christmas), January 6, and Shrove Tuesday, and it is sometimes referred to as the Mardi Gras season. It is celebrated especially in New Orleans (and other Louisiana cities) and Mobile, Alabama, and certain Mississippi and Florida cities.

Mardi Gras dates back to 1837, when the first street parade took place in New Orleans. On Twelfth Night, the first of nearly 100 private masked balls is held. Festivities also include approximately 50 street parades day and night. The parades feature marching bands and elaborate papier-mâché floats with maskers tossing trinkets, beads and doubloons (coins) to the crowds.

On the day of his execution, February 14, he plucked a heart-

shaped leaf from a clump of violets outside his jail window

and pierced it with a note to her on which he had written,

“From your Valentine.” The legend filtered down through the

centuries in France, Scotland, Wales, and Germany, reaching
