ENTRANCE FLOORING SYSTEMS SAVE MONEY…
Research shows that up to 94% of the dirt entering a building is brought in on the soles of shoes and the tyres of wheeled traffic. This wet and dry soiling makes interiors look dirty and unattractive, causes structural damage to interior floor coverings and finishes and creates unnecessary health and safety hazards.
If effective measures are not taken to avoid this problem, the repair and maintenance costs of a typical floor covering over its lifespan could be nine times the cost of the original investment. A well designed entrance flooring system will prevent dirt and moisture from being tracked in and thereby prolong the life of interior flooring and reduce cleaning, repair and overall maintenance costs.

Introduction to Forbo Entrance Flooring Systems
…AND PROTECT PEOPLE AND INTERIORS
Equality Act 2010
British Standard 8300: 2009+A1:2010 Design of Buildings and their approaches to meet the needs of disabled people – Code of practice
”…The ingress of soil and surface moisture to buildings, or their transfer between adjacent internal areas, should be reduced to the lowest practical level, e.g. through the use of appropriate entrance matting systems conforming to British Standard 7953…”
Loose lay mats and coir are advised against.
The role of an entrance flooring system British Standard 7953 Part 5.1“The entrance flooring system should scrape, wipe and retain soil, making contact with both feet of people entering the building and, in the case of wheeled traffic, with the circumference of the wheels.”
British Standard 7953: 1999 states that an EFS is necessary in order to:• Reduce the risk of slip injuries
• Prolong the life of the interior floor finish
• Reduce the cost of ongoing maintenance
Wet and dry soiling can both create slip hazards but by taking sensible decisions over flooring surfaces and installing effective entrance matting, the potential for slipping can be dramatically reduced.
There are two major pieces of legislation/guidance documents that affect the specification of EFS’s.
British Standard 7953: 1999 Part 3.1 Guidance document• Definition of an EFS
• The role of an EFS
• Product types
British Standard 8300: 2009+A1:2010Making entrances safe and accessible for all.
The British Standard states why we need an entrance system and also what its role is.
The WELL Building Standard® also recommends the use of entrance matting as an important tool to reduce pollutants entering the building.
Health and Safety and the Equality Act legislation imposes a duty of care on those who own and manage public buildings to prevent interior floor surfaces from becoming hazardous.
Entrance flooring systems also have a critical safety role to play.
Falls, slips and trips, combined, accounted for more than a third (36%) of reported employee injuries. They accounted for nearly six in ten specified injuries (59%) and almost three in ten (29%) over-seven-day injuries to employees (RIDDOR),* causing suffering and financial loss for individuals, companies and society at large.
The safety needs of the elderly, the infirm and those with impairments must be given a high priority. Floors must be kept clean, dry and safe and offer an appropriate co-efficient of friction (slip-resistance) for pedestrians and good wheel grip for wheel chair users.

Introduction to Marmoleum
Topshield2
All Marmoleum floors include Topshield2, a double UV cured finish which is scratch and scuff resistant, easy to maintain and ensures long lasting appearance retention.
Topshield2 is also naturally bacteriostatic, resistant to chemicals and hand disinfectants making it an ideal solution for all heavy traffic environments such as schools, healthcare, offices and public buildings.
Welding
In the majority of installations, Marmoleum does not need to be welded as it is completely dimensionally stable and will not shrink. However, if welding is the preferred option, then there are matching welding cords for every Marmoleum design.
Infection control & Allergy UK
Independent testing by the University of Glasgow has proven that Marmoleum has a unique suitability for a diverse range of environments where hygiene and control of bacteria such as MRSA or E. coli is an everyday concern.
Marmoleum is also an Allergy UK approved floor covering.

Introduction to Forbo Carpet Tiles
TESSERA, WESTBOND AND SYNERGY AT A GLANCE
Carpet tiles with a standard loop pile construction are designed to maintain their good looks in the most demanding heavy traffic areas of buildings, such as corridors and reception areas, while multi-height loop pile carpet tiles offer distinctive in-built texture and contemporary styling coupled with a robust and durable construction.
Loop pile
Fusion bondedFusion bonding is a sophisticated method of carpet tile manufacture where individual yarn pile is bonded onto the backing material to make an extremely dense and luxurious product. A high proportion of the yarn is in the wear surface providing a beautiful, rich velour carpet tile which gives an excellent broadloom appearance. All of our Westbond products are made in this specialised way.
Softer and more luxurious than loop pile, cut pile carpet tiles are ideal for boardrooms and meeting rooms in addition to general office environments and can be used to add colour to the scheme.
Cut pile
Synergy combines Tessera carpet tiles with Allura Flex vinyl tiles and presents 3 design elements in 1 range: the linearity of ‘Seagrass’ in a plank format, the vivid, highly textured ‘Hybrid’ in a large format rectangular tile, and the understated ‘Marble’ as a traditional square. Each of these 3 elements is complemented by pure colour from the Tessera Clarity range.
Loop pile plankFollowing on from the success of our Tessera Layout & Outline 50 x 50cm carpet tiles, we’ve extended the range with 100 x 25cm planks. Along with Forbo’s Synergy Seagrass plank-sized carpet tiles with a linear design these planks create even more possibilities for stunning floor designs.
Random lay. batchlessA random-lay carpet tile is cleverly designed so that it may be laid in any direction to produce a totally individual floor design and fitting waste is reduced to less than 2%. Different production consignments of ‘batchless’ tiles can be used together in an installation without the usual risk of visible batch variation or the need to hold attic stock.
Cut and loopCut and loop pile tiles feature a clever hybrid construction that offers all the robustness of a conventional loop pile product but with the superior aesthetics and more luxurious feel of a cut pile carpet tile.

Flotex is a floor covering that looks and feels like a carpet without any of the drawbacks of a textile floor covering. It has a smooth, velour like surface that is comfortable to walk on, warm underfoot with excellent slip resistant and acoustic properties.
ADVANTAGES OF FLOCKED FLOORING
Durable and comfortableDiscover the toughness and durability of Flotex which comes as a result of the 70 million nylon 6.6. fibres per square metre, while experiencing the quietness and comfort normally only associated with a carpet.
Quiet yet hygienicThe nylon fibres capture allergens and fine dust from the air, all of which they effortlessly release to standard cleaning appliances. Flotex also provides protection against mould and odours while still delivering a comfortable and quiet environment.
Warm while washableSimple every day vacuuming removes any dirt or dust trapped in the dense nylon surface and steam cleaning or deeper mechanical cleaning with minimal detergent can be used after heavy soiling. Regular cleaning restores Flotex to its original appearance and the wide array of colours and designs in which Flotex is offered, remain as vibrant and lively as the day the floor was installed.
Safe and secureFlotex provides both low in-room impact noise performance (class A) as well as good impact sound reduction (<20dB), ensuring a quiet room and a quiet building. Flotex also meets the HSE wet and dry slip resistance classifications for use on flat surfaces and ramps. A non-fray construction avoids trip hazards while the pattern, texture and grip of the surface helps to provide comfort and confidence underfoot.

OUR FLOOR COVERINGS IN USE
Forbo’s products are available in a vast array of colourways and offer a wide choice of performance attributes. To celebrate this diversity, we wanted to share with you some of the flooring schemes created using our products across a broad range of market sectors.
Hedley McEwan Office fit-out Segment – OfficeProducts – Sarlon, Coral, Westbond, Surestep
When Hedley McEwan decided to refurbish its riverside offices in Newcastle, it required a floor covering that complemented the industrial feel of the building, while providing outstanding acoustic performance. As such, Contents Design specified a variety of products from Forbo Flooring Systems’ wide portfolio to meet the project’s brief.
The Urgent Care Centre Segment – Healthcare Products – Coral, Surestep, Eternal, Colorex
David and Kate Simmons, Interior Designer at The Frank Whittle Partnership, created an impressive design for The Urgent Care Centre at Chorley Hospital using several products from Forbo’s integrated portfolio which resulted in this being the Highly Commended project for Fly Forbo’s 2015/2016 competition.
The Kelpies Visitor Centre Segment – Leisure and HospitalityProducts – Allura Stone, Surestep
Soaring 30 metres into The Helix Park skyline in Falkirk, The Kelpies can be admired all year round from the contemporary visitor centre, designed by architects Nicoll Russell Studios. Using Forbo Flooring Systems’ Allura Stone range, the architects were able to create a welcoming interior, while reflecting the abstract designs of the world’s largest equine sculptures – which helped the project win the 2016 Fly Forbo competition.

CREATING BETTER ENVIRONMENTS
It’s about the things you can’t seeA Forbo floor is always beautiful and stylish to look at. A floor that’s comfortable to live, work and play on. But looks aren’t everything; often, it’s the things you can’t see that really matter.
From how it’s made, our footprint…From how we run our factories to how we choose our ingredients, the way we make our floors is a big part of how we meet our mission to create better environments.
…To how it performs, your footsteps…We include the whole life of a floor when we think about its sustainability performance. Which means we make sure our floors start performing from the moment they’re fitted. The following page shows some examples of our sustainability initiatives. For more details, please visit our web site www.forbo-flooring.co.uk/cbe
From how they’re made to how they perform, we make outstanding floors that are truly sustainable. That’s because our oors are good for people, good for buildings and good for the environment. So, from the building they’re in to the world outside, we’re helping our customers work, live and relax in better environments.
Green informationWe provide environmental data sheets for our products which are available online. Please visit www.forbo-flooring.co.uk/cbedownloads to download the data sheets.
We also provide high quality electronic information such as BIM models with all the relevant and up-to-date information included. Visit www.forbo-flooring.co.uk/BIM to nd out more.
Site certicationAs well as reducing our impact on the planet, we’re also working on caring for the people that touch our business, from employees to suppliers. That’s why all our UK manufacturing facilities and most of our sites in Europe are certified to OHSAS 18001 – Occupational Health and Safety and SA8000®. The SA8000 Standard, established by SAI and one of the world’s pre-eminent social standards, is a tool for implementing international labour standards to protect workers along each step of the supply chain.

It’s good for Forbo because it helps us share our sustainability story and spot opportunities to improve.
And it’s good for you because it shows that other environmental experts agree that our oors are among the most sustainable and high performance available.
The Nordic Swan, Blue Angel, BREEAM and Natureplus are just a few of the sustainable product labels that Forbo complies to.
Just visit www.forbo-ooring.co.uk/cbe to nd out more.

WHY HEALTH MATTERS
Creating better environments
Today more than half of the world’s population, over 54%, is living in urbanised areas. On average we are spending around 80%-90% of our time indoors and, astonishing as this may sound, this is estimated to only increase. No wonder there is a growing focus on the quality of the indoor environment, while the attention given to green architecture and healthy buildings also continues to increase in prominence. Not single products, but the building as a whole, is now in the centre of environmental rating systems like LEED or the newly established health rating system, the WELL building standard.
