Tread Separation occurs when the rubber tread
begins to separate from the steel belts inside the
tire. This occurs because it is hard to adhere
rubber to steel. Tread Separation becomes more
likely at high speeds and in warmer climates.
What is Tread Separation?

Which company was responsible???

that Ford should

Responsibility.
Many people
blamed
Firestone.

Crisis in information management…
The information was available, but it was not easy to
get at and it was not shared.
Role of databases and data management…
There were several isolated databases.
There were no easy ways to detect trends.
There were no ways to share data (Ford had to “pry”
information from Firestone).
Not all data collected.
MIS Application…
![Page 15: Ford and Firestone's Tire Recall: The Costliest Information Gap in History, case study](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022052211/55a8791e1a28abea2b8b45bd/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)

•There was not an environment of information
sharing.
•Not all parties were collecting the correct data.
•No one was proactive about looking into problems.
•Both Ford & Firestone were responsible.
Conclusion
![Page 16: Ford and Firestone's Tire Recall: The Costliest Information Gap in History, case study](https://reader034.vdocument.in/reader034/viewer/2022052211/55a8791e1a28abea2b8b45bd/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)

Suggestion…
There should be implementation of information system.
There should be environment of information sharing within
the organization and between the parties.
Need to be PROACTIVE not reactive!
Better trend analysis
Causes of problem should be identified, than corrective
action must be taken.
Data that is collected should be used effectively
& efficiently.
