Ford Mustang’s Most Memorable Movie Moments

The Ford Mustang is one of the most iconic cars of all time. Decades after the model’s debut,

Mustangs are still rolling off the forecourts of Indianapolis Ford dealerships. In light of the

Mustang’s popularity, it’s no surprise that this well-loved car has appeared in a whole host of hit

movies alongside the biggest stars of the day. Here are five movie moments that define the

Mustang’s career on the big screen.

1. Goldfinger

All James Bond fans love a good car chase, and it doesn't get much better than a white

convertible Ford Mustang versus a classic Aston Martin DB5. Although this sequence can’t be

described as the Mustang’s finest moment, as it loses the chase to Bond’s Aston Martin, the car

does get a brush with greatness as it has its tires shredded by Mr. Bond.

2. Diamonds Are Forever

The Mustang had an opportunity to redeem itself in another Bond movie, "Diamonds Are

Forever," which was released in 1971. This time, 007 is in the driver's seat of the red 1971

Mustang Mach I Fastback. This is the famous shot where James Bond tips the car onto two

wheels in order to drive it down a narrow alley and escape the cops who are pursuing him. Then,

he exits the alley on the opposite two wheels. It’s a classic movie moment and one that all Bond

fans remember whenever they see a red Mustang.

3. Gone in 60 Seconds

The Ford Mustang starred in both the original 1974 version of "Gone in 60 Seconds" and the

2000 remake. These films are another excellent choice for viewers who enjoy a good car

chase. Could any vehicle actually perform that gravity-defying leap over stationary traffic at the

end? Maybe Nicolas Cage’s stunt driver can pull it off, but Indianapolis Ford dealers recommend

that you don’t try this move in your own classic Mustang.

4. Lock Up

"Lock Up" portrays Sylvester Stallone’s character lovingly restoring a 1965 Mustang (which he

calls “Maybelline”) to its full glory. Unfortunately, the Mustang meets with a violent end shortly

after. You might want to skip through the part where prison inmates destroy the car, as it’s

enough to make any classic car lover cringe.

5. I Am Legend

With Will Smith driving the car through the deserted streets of a post-apocalyptic New York

City, the Ford Mustang gets full marks for style in the opening sequence of "I Am Legend.”

Zombie attacks aside, car lovers may find themselves envious of Smith, who has the whole of

Manhattan as his personal cruising ground.
