EMERGENCY CONTACT
INFORMATION Information sheets will be sent home
with your student on the first day of
school. We ask that you please fill out
your child’s information sheet with
phone numbers that you can be reached
at in case of an emergency. If
you do not have a home phone number;
please list an emergency contact that we
can call. Also, please do not forget to
update your child’s information sheet
throughout the school year when you
change phone numbers.
When filling out your child’s
information sheet, please remember
to fill out the directions to your house
location. It is sometimes really
difficult for young children to explain
to a bus driver how to get them home.
Your child’s teachers spend their day
providing exceptional care and
education that the Fordland students
need, deserve, and receive. With that in
mind, grades will be updated each
Wednesday by 8:00 a.m.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION Students new to the district in grades K-
12 can register by calling the appropriate
school office beginning on August 5th.
Please bring a Utility Bill or Electric Bill
with you to establish residency, plus your
child’s social security card, their birth
certificate and immunization record.
Parents of students in grades K-5 should
call the elementary office at 738-2223 or
767-2307 for enrollment or screening
information.
PRESCHOOL/KINDERGARTEN
REGISTRATION Preschool and Kindergarten students new
to the district or those that have not been
screened should call to schedule an
appointment for the screening. You will
need to call the elementary office at 738-
2223 beginning on August 5th and
schedule your time.
STUDENT HANDBOOK The 2019-20 student handbook can be
found online. Please review Attendance
and Disciplinary Policy. The attendance
policy will be the same for the 19-20
school year, as it was for the 18-19 school
year.
Parent Portal The Fordland R-III School District
Parent Portal is open Kindergarten
through 12th Grade. The Parent Portal
is an online tool you can use to view
your students grades, attendance,
discipline, and graded assignments. It
will help you and your student stay
aware of their accomplishments as
well as their needs.
If you signed up last year you are all
ready to go for the 2019-2020 school
year. If not, to sign up for the Parent
Portal is quick and easy! Stop by the
office of the building your child is
enrolled in and fill out a request form.
You will need a picture ID so that we
can make sure the information goes to
the right person. Once filled out, a get
started packet will be mailed to you.
You can access the Parent Portal from
any Internet capable computer, at any
time of day. If your log-on/password
is lost or needs to be reset you will be
required to show your photo ID and
fill out a new request form. These
measures are put into place with each
child’s safety in mind. Thank you for your assistance and
patience as we utilize this new step
towards positive
communication in the
Fordland R- III School District. If you
have questions about the new Parent
Portal, Becky is available by email at
you may reach Becky Brooks by
phone in the high school at
(417)767-4555.

school kitchens will be accepted
through 3:00 p.m. on August 9, 2019.

Fordland Chapter of Care to Learn The Mission of Care to Learn is to provide immediate funding
to meet emergent needs in the areas of health, hunger, and
hygiene so that every student can be successful in school. The
program is funded by donations and ran primarily by
volunteers. It is a partnership between the school and the
community. The operating budget is $30,000 per year. Again,
this is completely funded by donations!
One of the many ways that the Fordland Chapter of Care to
Learn helps address some of these needs is through a program
called, “Eagle Packs.” The way this program works is very
simple. At the end of the school week, your child will be sent
home with a bag of food for the weekend. All of the items in
the bag are intended to be kid-friendly and easy to prepare.
This program is at no cost to you and participation is kept
confidential. If you qualify for free and reduced lunches, and
would like your child to participate, please fill out the
registration form if you’ve received one, or contact your
building secretary. If you have any questions or concerns,
please notify Becky Haynes.
Upcoming events: The Annual Fordland Community Care Day
will be held at the Fordland High School on Saturday,
September 21st, and will include a 5k, kids fun run, pancake
breakfast and auction and a local vendor fair. Come out and
enjoy a fun day with your friends and neighbors all while
helping Fordland students succeed in school!
High-School Attendance Policy-
Students are allowed 8 absences each semester. There are
no excused or unexcused absences. Missing more than 8
times in any 1 class period, will cause you to lose credit
for that class for the semester. If students miss more than
8 days due to extraordinary circumstances, parents may
submit a waiver to the attendance committee. Students
aren’t allowed to make-up hours missed.
Please make a special attempt to review these updates in
each student handbook. The Handbooks will be posted on
our website at www.fordland.k12.mo.us.

BETA CLUB Nine students attended Beta Club Nationals in
Oklahoma City in June. Students needed to place
in the top five on the state level in order to receive
an invitation to compete on the national
level. Avery Brooks competed in 12th Grade
Science; Michael Reese competed in 10th Grade
Science; Trinity Hiserote competed in 10th Grade
Creative Writing; Cleo Hampton competed in 10th
Grade On-Site Painting; and Autumn Barber,
Graham Brooks, Michael Reese, Daniel Szanto,
and Mia Wiley competed in Engineering. The
Engineering team placed 6th on the national level.
Invitations will be mailed out to 9-12 grade
students qualifying to join Beta Club in August.
Students must maintain a 3.0 gpa, have no Ds or
Fs for a semester grade, and have no major
disciplinary infractions in order to maintain
eligibility for the club. If parents have any
questions in regard to Beta Club, they should
contact Misty Grandel or Josh Smith at 767-4555.
Student Council FHS Student Council is taking on some new faces for
the 2019-2020 school year! Graham Brooks and Mia
Wiley will be leading the group as president and vice
president. We also have several students that are new to
StuCo. StuCo members for the 2019-2020 school year
want to keep increasing school pride and participation.
Our first meeting will take place August 12th (time
TBD) to prepare for the first day of school assembly.
Please like our Fordland high school Student council
page OR follow us on TWITTER @FHS_StuCo to stay
up to date on activities. If you have any questions or
concerns, please contact Mrs. Owens or Mrs. Key, StuCo advisers.
2018/19 Yearbooks are in and will be delivered
soon! If you missed ordering and would like one
they are $40. Make checks payable to Fordland
High School.
MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL DRESS CODE Reminder: Tank tops must have at least 2-inch
straps. No spaghetti strap shirts! Skirts must
reach the bottom of your fingertips. For pants and
shorts no visible holes should be above the
fingertips. Shirts must have a seam down the
side. Shirts and Jeans must meet; No belly
buttons showing. If your child’s attire does not
meet dress code they will be sent home. There is
a full copy of the dress code in the student
registration packet given to each student at open
house. The 19-20 Handbooks will be posted on
our website at www.fordland.k12.mo.us for more
information on dress code.
If in doubt don’t wear it!
CROSS-COUNTRY This summer the cross country team continued the tradition
of before school runs during summer school. We also
attended two different camps, the Wilderness Running
camp, near Dora, and the Wildcat Running camp in
Rogersville. At these camps the team learned new tips and
techniques to make their running more efficient.
Practice for the season starts Monday August 12th for High
School at 7am at the high school and Monday August 19th
for Middle School. Cross-Country is open to High School
and Middle School 6th - 12th grade boys & girls. Once
school starts, we will practice every morning at 6:30 am.
There will be some after school practices for those who
want to improve their running, and those runners that attend
OTC. If you plan to run and have not personally given
coach Haynes a copy of your new/current physical or had a
copy put in her school mailbox, you MUST have a copy of
your current physical with you before you can practice.
Summer practices have been non-mandatory, but please be
preparing if you plan to compete this season. While I
would love to have a lot of runners, I also want runners that
are willing to work. If you come into the first week of
practice and haven’t been preparing (at least 2 to 4 runs per
week by the end of the summer), you will likely struggle
through the first few weeks and are putting yourself at a
higher risk of injury, so come prepared.
I’m looking forward to another amazing season!

ATHLETES All middle school and high school athletes must
have a current (within a year) physical in order to
participate in athletics at Fordland Schools. In
addition, all students must provide proof of
insurance on the physical. This documentation
must be on file at school before students will be
allowed to practice. Both Missouri State High
School Athletics Association (MSHSAA) and
local policy require these guidelines.
Eligibility requirements can be found on the
MSHSAA website @ www.mshsaa.org.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION We would like to request that middle school and high
school students, which participate in physical education, not
wear their street shoes on the gym floor. Please help us in
keeping our newly sealed floor in top condition. Lockers
and locks are available to students to keep extra shoes in, if
they so choose.
Volleyball Practice begins Monday, August 12th, from 3:00
p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for any High School girls
interested in playing volleyball this fall.
Remember you will need an updated physical on
file for the school in order to play.
High School Baseball 1st Day of practice will be August 12th @ 3:30 P.M.
All Athletes must have a current sports physical on file
with the office or turned into me on the first day of
practice. If you received your physical after February
of the 18/19 school year it is good for the 2019/20
school year.
Coach Waterman.
Junior High Boys & Girls Practice Schedule Junior High Boys & Girls Basketball practice will
begin August the 19th. The time is from 3:00-5:00. We
will practice every day that week. All players must
have a new physical in coach’s hand and proof of
medical insurance before practicing on this day. You
will not practice without it!

New School Breakfast and Lunch Prices Breakfast: Students-$1.95 & Adults-$2.64 Lunches:
Students-$2.50 & Adults-$3.19. Those who qualify for
reduced lunches will pay $.40 for lunch and $.30 for
Breakfast. Milk will be $.30. If your child receives
free or reduced lunch, snack milk is NOT
INCLUDED.
All money for school breakfast and lunches will be
deposited to the student’s account. K-5 students
will bring their breakfast/lunch money in an
envelope to be given to their classroom
teacher. 6-12 students will bring their
breakfast/lunch money in an envelope and drop it
in the deposit box in the 6-12 principal’s
office. Parents may send one (1) check for all
children in the family but need to specify on
envelope how much goes to each child. We are
asking all elementary parents to pay for six (6) full
days the first time so your child will always have
one (1) day credit to cover the next Monday’s
meal. The A La Carte items will be cash only at
the middle school and high school.
UNPAID CHARGES, A student who has
accumulated five unpaid charges ($ 15.00) for
complete meals and is still unable to pay for meals
will be provided a substitute meal that meets the
district's nutrition guidelines. Substitute meals
provided to the student will be charged to the
student's meal account. If you are having trouble
making payments, please contact the central office
to make payment arrangements.
Free and Reduced Lunch Applications
We want to stress to our parents that all free and
reduced information is highly confidential.
Historically we have students who qualify for free
or reduced price meals that do not apply because
they feel the child will be embarrassed or it would
be hurting the school.
Those students who receive a free and reduced, go
through the food line like everyone else. Only
those persons who have a need to know (principal,
secretary, etc.) will know. The district receives a
larger reimbursement for the free and reduced
meals. In addition, many appropriations to the
school are based on the number of students
qualifying for free or reduced price meals.
Applications for free or reduced price meals will
be sent home with all students the first day of
classes. An approved application must be on file
before students are eligible to receive the benefits.
Applications may be picked up from the principal’s
office starting August 1st.
If your child(ren) was on free/reduced lunches last
year and you are not direct certified, you will need
to fill out a new application at the beginning of
each year. The application must be in the office
within thirty (30) days after school starts. If
students are not pre-approved, parents will need to
send lunch or pay for lunch on the first couple of
days of school.
If you receive a direct certification letter stating
that you are approved before school starts, you will
not have to fill out an application.

Dear Parents and Employees: On October 22, 1986, President Reagan
signed into law the Asbestos Hazard
Emergency Response Act (AHERA, Public
Law 99-519). The law required EPA to
develop regulations, which provide a
comprehensive framework for addressing
asbestos problems in public and private
elementary and secondary schools. On
October 30, 1987, EPA published the
asbestos-Containing materials in Schools
Rule [40 CFR Part 763 Subpart E]. This
New Rule requires all public and private
elementary and secondary schools to inspect
for friable and non-friable asbestos, develop
asbestos management plans that address
asbestos hazards in school buildings, and
implement response actions in a timely
fashion. This rule became effective
December 14, 1987.
Fordland R-III School District conducted a
complete inspection of its facilities in 2011,
utilizing the services of AHERA Specialists.
The results of this inspection have been
included in a management plan. This
management plan is available in the
Superintendent’s office of the District during
normal business hours, without cost or
restriction, or the disturbance of the ACM are
also recorded in the
management plan.
Inspection by representatives of the EPA and
the State, the public including teachers, other
school personnel and their representatives,
and parents. The District may charge a
reasonable cost to make copies of
management plans. Periodic surveillance is
required every six- (6) months and was
conducted on March 20, 2012. A re-
inspection of our facilities is required every
three- (3) years and you, as a parent, are
encouraged to examine the management plan
that affects your child(ren).

SCHOOL DISTRICT PUBLIC
NOTICE INDIVIDUAL WITH
DISABILITIES EDUCATION
ACT (IDEA)
All responsible public agencies are
required to locate, evaluate, and
identify children with disabilities who
are under the jurisdiction of the
agency, regardless of the severity of
the disability, including children
attending private schools, highly
mobile children, such as migrant and
homeless children, and children who
are suspected of having a disability
and in need of special education even
though they are advancing from grade
to grade. The Fordland R-III School
District assures that it will provide a
free, appropriate public education
(FAPE) to all eligible children with
disabilities between the ages of 3 and
21 under its jurisdiction. Disabilities
include autism, deaf/blindness,
emotional disorders, hearing
impairment and deafness, intellectual
disability, multiple
disabilities, orthopedic impairment,
other health impairments, specific
learning disabilities, speech or
language impairment, traumatic brain
injury, visual impairment/blindness
and young child with developmental
delay.
The Fordland R-III School District
assures that it will provide information
and referral services necessary to
assist the State in implementation of
early intervention services for infants
and toddlers eligible for the Missouri
first Steps program.
The Fordland R-III School District
assures that personally identifiable
information collected, used, or
maintained by agency for the purposes
of identification, evaluation,
placement or provision of FAPE of
children with disabilities may be
inspected and/or reviewed by their
parents/guardians. Parents/guardians
may request amendment to the
educational record if the
parent/guardian believes the record is
inaccurate, misleading, or violates the
privacy or other rights of their child. Parents have the right to file
complaints with the U.S. Department
of Education or the Missouri Department of
Elementary and Secondary Educational
Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The
Fordland R-III School District has
developed a Local Compliance Plan for the
implementation of State Regulations for the
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
(IDEA). This plan contains the agency’s
policies and procedures regarding storage,
disclosure to third parties, retention and
destruction of personally identifiable
information and the agency’s assurances that
services are provided in compliance with the
General Education Provision Act (GEPA). This
plan may be reviewed Monday-Friday, from
8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Fordland Central
Office.
Local school districts in the State of Missouri
are required to conduct an annual census of all
children with disabilities from birth to age
twenty-one (21) that reside in the district. This
census must be complied by December 1 of each
year. This information is treated as confidential
and must include: name of child; parent/legal
guardian’s name/address; birth date and age of
the child; the child’s disability; and the services
provided to the child. If you have a child with a
disability or know of a child with a disability
who is not attending the public school, please
contact Dyke Hurd, Special Education
Coordinator, at (417) 767-6158.
This notice will be provided in native languages
as appropriate.
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
(IDEA)
The Fordland R-III School District ensures that
provision will be made for the participation of
students with disabilities that are parentally-
placed in private, parochial or home schools in
the program assisted or carried out under Part B
of the Individuals with Disabilities Education
Act (IDEA) by providing them with special
education and/or related services.
The Fordland R-III School District also ensures
that a services plan will be developed and
implemented for each child, parentally-placed in
private, parochial or home schools, who has
been designated to receive special education
and/or related services. An expenditure of funds
equivalent to the proportionate share calculation
will be used to fund this provision of services.
The Fordland R-III School District invites
consultation with the appropriate representatives
of private/parochial/home-schooled children
with disabilities regarding such funding. To
arrange consultations contact the
Superintendent’s office.
Health Services
School is about to start and everyone knows what that means...IMMUNIZATIONS!!! Please, remember that your
child will not be able to come to school if he/she’s immunizations are not up to date. This is a Missouri State Law
and can be found on the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Service’s website at health.mo.gov. Then,
search 2019-2020 School Requirements.
Incoming 12th graders will need a second meningitis vaccine if they received their first dose before turning 16
years old OR only one dose is needed if it was received after turning 16 years old. This can be confusing, so
please contact Nurse Jennifer if you have questions.
Incoming 8th graders will need a dose of Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis-whooping cough) AND their
first dose of the meningitis vaccine. Tdap is similar to Dtap (Dtap was given to them as young children), however
the Tdap formulation is different and intended for older children and adults. Again, this may be confusing so
please reach out to Nurse Jennifer if needed.
Incoming Kindergartners will need several vaccines! The 2 most common vaccines that are missing/incomplete
upon entering kindergarten is the 2nd dose of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and the 2nd dose of Varicella
(chickenpox.)
Your child will be receiving a health history form on the first day of school, please fill this out, sign, and send it
back on the second day of school. This helps to ensure that your child receives the best care possible while at
school. DO NOT assume that the school already has all the information necessary to care for your child! Fill out
the health history form with as much information as possible. If your child has a special medical need, please
discuss with Nurse Jennifer as soon as possible! We also need up to date phone numbers for ALL parents/legal
guardians and other emergency contacts. Unfortunately, even with the best of planning and preparation,
emergencies still happen. Having the most up to date information for your child could mean a better outcome
during an emergency!
Finally, remember that daily medication administration at school is highly discouraged. Parents need to do
everything possible to avoid medication administration at school. However, reasonable accommodations will be
made if the student has a physician documented acute or chronic health condition requiring treatment of
medication during school hours. Parents/legal guardians must fill out a “Medication Administration Consent
Form” and return to the school nurse. All medication must be provided by the parent. Only some emergency and
first aid medication(s) will be provided by the school district. (A complete list of school provided emergency and
first aid medications are listed on the health history form.) Any medication, that has been requested by the parent
to be administered at the school, must be approved by the school nurse. Students are NOT allowed to carry
medication with them at school, on school transportation, or at school sponsored events.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation on these very important matters! I’m looking forward to the
start of the new school year!

Jennifer Venable, RN-School Nurse

Fordland R-3 School District
Home of the Eagles
July 25, 2019
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope that you had a wonderful summer and have started to look forward to the start of
the school year. The District has been working hard over the summer preparing for a
new school year. The custodial, grounds, and maintenance staff has worked diligently
this summer to ensure that we continue to have outstanding facilities for our students.
As the 2019-20 school year starts, we continue to keep focused on continuously
improving the academic performance of our students as well as our never ending
commitment to a safe learning environment. One of the big changes with the new
website is the District will be moving to having only two community-wide newsletters
per year. Much of the information that has been in news letters will be on the school
website and school app. As we start this transition, do not hesitate to contact your child’s
building for any information that you need. All buildings will have their back to school
open house on August 14th. The following are the times for each buildings open house:
K-5 - 5:00 - 6:30
6-8 - 5:30 - 7:00
9-12 - 6:00 - 7:30
I am looking forward to this school year! If you having questions or concerns, please do
not hesitate to reach out to staff members, building principals, or the central office. It is
always a GREAT day to be an EAGLE!
Respectfully,
Dr. Chris Ford
Superintendent of Schools
