April showers bring May flowers . . . . and golfers to the course.

The Polar Open was well attended, which is good since it snowed

three times after the tournament. With spring, also comes summer social activities. We have

the Annual Easter Egg Hunt with our resident Bunny on Saturday the 19th and Easter Brunch on

Sunday the 20th.

The adult Canvas & Cork was such a huge success, we have booked Kanvas & Kool-Aid on

Saturday, April 26th. This is for kids ages 4 and up, they will paint something special for Mother’s

Day. See the ad elsewhere in this issue for details.

We have expanded on our Friday Afternoon Cocktails by adding a drawing for guests of the

Members. We encourage you to invite your friends to join us at FAC anytime. We will have a

special drawing just for them EVERY WEEK! This gives you the opportunity to show off your

Club experience. As a perk, through the month of April, if your guest’s name is drawn as our

winner & they join the Club before the following Friday, I will give them their first month’s dues for

FREE.

Don’t forget . . . If you sponsor a new member, you have the opportunity to reduced your dues by

30%, dependent upon the category of the new member.

I appreciate your ongoing support and confidence in me. I am working hard to make your Club

experience the best it can be. I welcome your feedback at anytime. Have a wonderful month and

I will see you around the Club.

Happy Spring!

The weather is finally starting to warm up and we are looking forward to the longer

days ahead. With spring here, we will be introducing a fresh, new and exciting

menu. Look for the new menu options featured for the warmer weather months.

Easter is also right around the corner and we hope to see everyone join us for

Easter Brunch. You will find the brunch menu listed on the front page of this

month's Fore & More. If you haven't already made your reservations, you may wish

to do so soon as it is typically a sellout crowd. The children’s Easter Egg Hunt will

be on Saturday morning. Please register your kiddo’s with the office for this event.

As always, we enjoy seeing everyone out on Friday evenings for FAC. Don't forget

to bring a guest up during FAC to introduce them to all that MCC has to offer. Feel

free to contact Chelsea or me for any upcoming banquet needs or summer parties

that you may be planning. We have the venue and the expertise to make your party

spectacular. Thank you for your continued support and business. We look forward

to seeing everyone soon!

A Letter from Our Golf Pro & Superintendent

As this is being written, it feels as though spring has arrived! We have been

hard at work preparing the course for the season, including, beginning our spring

cultural practices for the golf course. With our cultural practices, includes,

aerification which is scheduled for the beginning of April, weather permitting.

The moisture we received this winter has been beneficial to the course. It

looks as if we are coming out of the winter season in fine shape. This will likely be

the last month with a frost delay. We appreciate your patience and cooperation

this season with these delays.

As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free

to contact us.

2014 Manhattan Country Club Junior Golf Program

Here at the Manhattan Country Club, we are committed to providing terrific instruction, individualized

attention and a fun learning environment for our junior players. Golf is a game of integrity - no officials

to call a breach of the rules; no one to tell if the score you turned in was actually shot. It’s a game rich

with history and timeless traditions, waiting to be passed on to our future generations. This game is

never conquered; perfection is never reached. There is always opportunity to be better, score lower, hit

the ball further and hole more putts on a consistent basis. It is a game that can be enjoyed by different

generations playing at the same time, together. This sport not only continues to teach positive life

lessons, but also depends on an adherence to them for its very existence. This sport is GOLF!

In 2014, our multi-faceted instruction program will cover full swing, chipping, putting, rules and etiquette,

playing the game and the most important thing of all, HAVING FUN!

The structure of the program will be as follows:

Clinics/Play Days – (All on Thursday mornings) June 5th

, June 19th

, June 26th

, July 3rd

and July 10

th.

The age range for the Junior Golf Program will be 8-17 years old. On the Clinic/Play Days, the more advanced players (9 & 18 holers) will play golf

beginning at 8am. The younger players will have a clinic from 8:30am - 9:30am and then play golf. The number of holes played for this group will range from 3 - 6 holes and will be determined by skill level at the discretion of the Golf Staff.

The Advanced Players (9 & 18 holers) will be offered (2) 30 minute private lessons to be taken at any point throughout the summer and must be scheduled through the Golf Staff. These private lessons are included in the junior golf fee.

July 16th

& 17th

– Junior Club Championship The Junior Golf fee for 2014 will be $75.

Our instruction program is open to all children and grandchildren of members (golf & social) in good

standing. Should you have any questions regarding Junior Golf you are more than welcome to call the

Golf Shop at (785)539-6221.

Thank you for your time. We sincerely look forward to seeing you and your children at the Club in

2014!

Sincerely,

Blake Graham

A Message from our General Manager

General Manager’s Message

With the change from winter to spring, also brings a change to our Board of Directors.

At the Annual Meeting on Monday, March 24th the following 3 members were voted

on to represent your club; Helena Grinter, Diana Knox and Ken Woods. My heartfelt

thanks go out to the following 3 board members for their hard work, time and

commitment; Sandy Butler, Doug Hofbauer and John Shostak are retiring from the

board. Thank you all for your leadership, not only to the Club, but to me personally.

As the weather has been getting warmer, the club has become busier day by day.

Starting Monday, April 7th we will resume our Monday schedule of the Pro Shop and

the course being open at 2 pm. In just 55 days, the pool will be open again with the

sounds of laughter and activity. I can hardly wait and I know you and your family will

be looking forward to opening day as well.

Please keep an eye on the Club emails and calendar as we have several fun NEW

events planned throughout the season. The Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Buffet is April

19 & 20th. With the help of our active Social Committee, we are working on a Roaring

20’s themed event, Cooking Classes with Chef Ryan, Poolside Luau, Dive in Movie at

the pool and the Cowboy Camp Out just to name a few. Never fear, Blake has several

fun golf events and ideas in the works too!

2014 is going to be a great year! We are fortunate to have some great members and

staff alike working to make your experience at the Manhattan Country Club the best it

can be. We’ve already welcomed 28 new Member families since November and we’ve

only touched the surface of where we can be with all of your support.

I appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you around the Club,

Dave
