Goodbye to FIP and SIP $100 million dollar program thru 2007 FY2003 allocation to KS was $122,255;
anticipate $61,128 FY2004 Administrated by the Kansas Forest Service
with guidance from the Forest Stewardship Committee
Objectives of FLEPForest Land Enhancement Program
To encourage landowners to actively manage their timber
To enhance the productivity of timber, fish, wildlife habitat, soil and water quality, wetlands, and recreational resources
FLEP Covers 75% of the Cost to Plant Trees and Implement Management Practices in Woodlands and Windbreaks
Who is Eligible for the Program?
Private landowners state-wideLandowners who own 40 contiguous acres or more
Landowners must have a management plan prepared by their local forester
A service provided by the KFS
FLEP 2 Afforestation/Reforestation
Tree planting for commercial timber production and other objectives such as wildlife habitat
FLEP 3 Forest Stand Improvement
Thinning, release, pruning or protecting woodlands to
increase tree growth
Alley Cropping
FLEP 4 AgroforestryTree planting for windbreak systems. Renovation
of mature windbreaks
FLEP 5 Water Quality Improvement and Watershed Protection
Tree planting adjacent to streams and rivers to improve water quality and protection of
riparian areas
