1000 Assembly Street P.O. Box 167 Columbia, SC 29202 Forest Products Sale Notice Edisto River Wildlife Management Area Dorchester County, South Carolina The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) will accept sealed, per ton bids for the sale of approximately 5,096 tons of pine pulpwood and 1,456 tons of fuel chips to be selectively thinned from approximately 72.8 acres of planted loblolly pine. Bids should be submitted on a per ton basis for all Pine Products and on a per ton basis for mixed Pine/Hardwood Fuel Chips. These stands were third-row thinned in 2005. Removals in this second thinning will include operator-selected smaller and poorly formed commercial pine trees from remaining side rows. Approximately 2/3 of the pine stems will need to be removed to produce an open-pine habitat suitable for bird dog training/put-and-take quail hunting (approximate residual basal area of 40 sq.ft.). Additionally, removals will also include all pre-commercial pine and hardwood material (IE fuel chips) from within these delineated stands. As such, acceptable combinations of harvesting methods may include longwood plus fuel chipping/grinding or clean chipping plus fuel chipping/grinding. SCDNR does not guarantee these advertised volumes or acreages, and bidders are encouraged to make their own determinations. The sale areas are part of, and located on SCDNR’s Edisto River Wildlife Management Area, located in Southwestern Dorchester County, just north of US Highway 17-A, with the Edisto River forming the western boundary of the tract. The main entrance to Edisto River WMA is located on Running Water Drive, but these sale areas are located inside the southernmost gate along Sandpit Road. The areas to be thinned are generally delineated by property lines, roads, firebreaks, and/or distinct changes in timber type. The attached sale maps are believed to be reliable and accurate, but are not absolutely guaranteed. Bids will be accepted until 3:00 p.m. on July 12, 2018 at SCDNR Headquarters, 1000 Assembly Street, Columbia, SC – Room 202, at which time the bids will be publicly opened. Bids may be delivered to the opening; mailed to Gary Burger, Statewide Forester, P.O. Box 167, Columbia, SC 29202; or e-mailed to [email protected]. All bids should be signed by the bidder and clearly marked “Edisto River WMA 2018 Timber Sale”. NO VERBAL or FAX BIDS will be ACCEPTED. Mailed bids must be received by 4:00 p.m. on July 11, 2018. SCDNR reserves the right to reject any or all bids. The successful bidder will have 6 months to remove the timber, and a $5,000 performance bond in the form of a cashier’s check or company check will be required within 10 days of notification of award. The performance bond will be held by SCDNR in a non-interest bearing account until satisfactory completion of the harvesting operation. Payments for timber removed, mill tickets, and settlement accountings will be mailed or delivered to Gary Burger (SCDNR in Columbia) on a weekly basis. For further information contact Gary Burger at (803) 429-3900 or at the e-mail address above. A pre-harvest conference between the successful bidder and SCDNR will be held prior to the commencement of harvest, and BMP compliance will be required. SCDNR advises bidders of their interest in protecting the plants, wildlife, educational, cultural, and aesthetic values that exist on the tract. All logging decks, equipment, felled trees, and debris will be confined to the sale area. Damage to adjoining areas and/or excessive damage to residual trees may incur assessment of damages to the buyer. No logging will be allowed when the ground is subject to rutting, but wet weather extensions may be granted for
