Creating A Yahoo E-Mail
Go to http://mail.yahoo.com/
Click "Sign Up For Yahoo!".
Tell Us About Yourself . . .
Select an ID and Password
In case you forget you ID or Password . .
Just a couple more details . .
Click Create My Account
Print the Congratulations Web Page.
Click Continue.
Step 1 ~ Go to 'mail.yahoo.com'
In your web browser's address bar type 'mail.yahoo.com' and press go.

Step 2 ~ Click "Sign Up
To create a new Yahoo ID Click on the Sign up For Yahoo! Hyper-Link.
If you have an existing
e-mail account with Yahoo, you can Sign In to access your mail.

The Sign Up Page is where all the required information is collected to create your new e-mail account.
Take time to carefully complete all the information accurately.
Step 3 ~ Tell Us About Yourself
Enter the information correctly, making use of the text boxes and drop down menus.
Enter Your:
Name
Gender
Birthday
Ghana
Step 4 ~ ID and Password
This ID will provide as your name on the internet so it is important to choose a good name, one that easy to remember and share.
Your ID must be unique, a one-of-a kind.
Do not choose something that can be embarrassing, as you are
likely to keep your
e-mail address your whole life.
Step 4 ~ Select an ID & Password
Type your desired Yahoo! ID.
SLC CHECK to confirm if the ID is taken by another user or free.

The Sign Up Page will automatically update to inform you if the ID is available or not.
If the ID is taken by another user, Yahoo will present alternative suggestions or you can type another ID and re-check.

After having an ID then create your password.
You are not able to see the password as you type it so be extra careful. One suggestion is to write it down on paper first.
You must re-type the password exactly the same to prove to Yahoo you know it.

Your ID or Password
Yahoo asks that you provide an alternate email address, but it is not compulsory.
The alternate address is used if you forget your password, so Yahoo! can send you a new one.

Without an alternate email, the Yahoo Security Question provides the way to a new password.
Make sure your answer is memorable to you but hard for others to guess!

If you forget the answer to your Security Question and do not have an alternate email address listed on your account, you will not get a new password and you will be forever locked out of your e-mail.

More Details. . .
Although e-mail is free, it has value and criminals create accounts for illegal activities.
To help prevent against this Yahoo presents a code that is difficult of a machine to read.
You must enter the code correctly for your
e-mail address to be created.

Yahoo mail is 'Closed Source' and you must agree to their legal Terms of Service document.
If you do not agree you will not be provided with an account.
To agree click on the check box so that a check appears, then click Create My Account.

Prior to clicking on Continue it is advised that you print (either on paper or to a file), save the web page or record all the information in a note book.
It is the final record of the information you gave to Yahoo and is important.
It should be kept in a secure / private place where no one else can have access.

Message List ~ Shows you all the messages within your Inbox or selected folder.
Folder List ~ Displays all the folders within Yahoo Mail, similar to those on a pen-drive.
Reading Pane ~ Space where a selected message is displayed for your use.

Selected Message ~ The place where you select which message you want displayed.
Reading Pane Size Adjuster ~ Here you can 'Click and Drag' to increase or decrease the size of the Reading Pane.
Message Heading ~ Displays information on who sent the e-mail, when it was sent, its' subject, etc.

Standard Toolbar ~ Set of common functions used when composing a message.
Message To Field ~ The place where you must type the receipts e-mail addresses.
It shall be in the form of [email protected] but can have
different appearances.
Note: There are never any spaces.
Message Cc Field ~ A place where you can enter more addresses to copy/send the same message too others, for their reference or use.

Message Subject Field ~ The place where you must type the 'Title Of Your E-Mail'.
Formatting Toolbar ~ Provides set of tools similar to that found within a Word Processing Package for the use of changing the appearance of your message.
Composing Space ~ The Space where you type, edit, check spelling, your message.

Type the receipts addresses in the To and Cc Fields; separate address with a [,].
Type the subject of the e-mail in the Subject Field. The Subject shall not be longer then 25 characters including spaces.
Type, edit and format your message in the Composing Space.
Click Send on the Standard Toolbar when complete.

Yahoo Today vs. Yahoo Classic
Recently Yahoo upgraded their e-mail service providing a more client like environment.
Yahoo currently allows users to use the older e-mail service now called Yahoo Classic.
Both services work the same and it is recommended you use Yahoo Classic within Ghana; because the newer service requires a faster computer and internet connection then what is commonly found in our cafs.

Yahoo Menu ~ Set of hyper-links (HLs) to other Yahoo services and the SIGN-OUT link.
Welcome Message ~ Provides status showing how many unread messages you have.

Spam ~ Alerts Yahoo, the sender sent the mail without permission, used to reduce unwanted e-mail.
Move ~ Shows a list of folders to transfer the message to.

SLC on INBOX or any Folder containing the message you want to view.
Within the MESSAGE LIST, SLC on the 'Subject' of the message you wish to view.
The desired message is displayed.

Reply ~ Respond to all or some of the senders.
Forward ~ Sends the message to a new person.
Spam ~ Marks it as an unwanted e-mail.

SIGNING OUT
Signing Out
Just like pushing in your chair when class is over, you must also SIGN OUT of your Yahoo Mail properly. Failure to do so may result in someone stealing your account and information for ever.
You MUST SIGN OUT before your time expires at the caf.

Go to the YAHOO MENU at the top of any Yahoo Web Page.
SLC on SIGN OUT.
Wait for the new web page to load, and verify your Yahoo ID is no longer displayed on the YAHOO MENU.
