1.13 Production and manufacturing processes?

Manufacturing unit of Jindal Stainless at Jajpur, Odisha is the only fully integrated stainless steel plant in the country encompassing complete integration including ferro-alloy production, steel making, refining, hot rolling, cold rolling, annealing pickling and finishing facilities along with captive coke oven battery and power plant. Production of ferro-chrome, ferro-manganese and silico-manganese is carried out in submerged Arc-Furnaces. and Ultra-high powered Electric arc-furnace are used for melting stainless steel. Refining is carried out in Argon-Oxygen De-carburization Converter and slabs are cast in a vertical- bending continuous casting unit. Conditioning of slabs is done in grinding machine followed by. Hot Rolling of slabs in an Ultra-modern Hot Strip Mill comprising of a walking beam reheating furnace, reversible roughing stand with hydraulic gauge and width control, coil box, six-strand finishing mill with hydraulic gauge control, smart crown with contoured work rolls and horizontal roll shifting for profile control, positive and negative work roll bending & excellent laminar cooling facilities. Annealing-Pickling of hot rolled black coils is conducted in a continuous Hot rolled Annealing-Pickling Line endowed with In-Line rolling, Scale breaker, Shot blasting unit, Electrolytic sulphuric & Mixed acid tanks. Annealed & pickled coils are cold rolled, annealed and pickled in a continuous Cold rolled Annealing-Pickling line with Three strand In-Line rolling, Neutral electrolytic salt bath, Electrolytic nitric acid and Mixed acid tanks. There is provision of on-line skin pass and tension leveler in this line to produce world class lustrous products with high degree of flatness. The plant is also endowed with state of the art bell furnaces, skin pass mill as well as Slitting and Shearing lines for finishing.

The handling of various raw materials catering to various consuming centers will be carried out through the following activities.
Receipt, unloading and storage of Raw materials,
Reclaiming of raw materials from storage yard and transportation to Blast Furnace,
Reclaiming of raw materials from storage yard and transportation to Ferro Chrome Plant, Si-Mn Plant, Fe-Mn Plant and lime plants. This covers the reclaiming & transportation of raw material to briquette plant and transport of briquette and other raw materials to Ferro Chrome Plant and transportation of raw materials to Si-Mn Plant, Fe-Mn Plant and lime plant.
Storage and transportation of raw materials for SMS, which includes & covered storage shed for Ferro Alloys, Purchased DRI etc.

1.15 Facilities for treatment or disposal of solid waste or liquid effluents?

The principal solid wastes likely to be produced by the plant includes iron ore fines, dust recovered from the dust extraction systems, sludge from the Blast Furnace GCP, slag from the Blast Furnace, Steel Melting Shop and Ferro Alloys Plant. The various solid wastes produced in the plant and disposal methodologies are as follows.
SMS scraps are recycled in SMS.
SS scrap from Slab caster are recycled in Chromium Pre-melter.
Scrap from Steckel are recycled in Chromium Pre-melter.
Scrap from DRAP Line recycled in Chromium Pre-melter.
Scraps from CR Slitting Line are recycled in Chromium Pre-melter.
Scraps from Cut to Length Line (in CRM) are recycled in Chromium Pre-melter.
Iron ore fines will be used in Sinter Plant.
Blast Furnace Slag will be granulated and sold to Cement manufactures.
Blast Furnace Scrap will be recycled in SMS.
SMS Scales will be recycled in Sinter Plant.
Scales from Slab Caster will be recycled in Sinter Plant.
Scales from Steckel Mill will be recycled in Sinter Plant.

The total requirement of fresh water from surface water source to meet process make up and drinking needs is estimated as 3029 m3/hr for the full development of the project. The source of water for the plant will be from River Brahmani which is drawn through a 14 Kms long pipeline from plant site. Raw water, received at the plant boundary, is clarified in the Raw Water Treatment Plant for use as Make Up, drinking water. Clarified water are being further treated in a Demineralised Water Plant cum Water Softening Plant to meet the DM and Soft water demand of the Plant. Permission has been taken from Water Resources Department.
