The Winston School San Antonio offers a diverse Summer School Program that focuses on academic support and

review opportunities for grades K-8th

, high school courses for credit, afternoon enrichment programs that offer fun

activities, and sports enrichment programs to enhance athletic performance and skills.

Registration Checklist:

Complete registration form by checking all appropriate courses/classes

Submit a $200.00 Non-Refundable Deposit with Registration Form

Remaining balance/payment is due no later than Thursday, June 15th

Students enrolling in the Morning Academics Program who DID NOT attend WSSA during the 2016-2017 school year must also provide the following:

Copy of a Full & Individual Assessment (or any other applicable testing)

Attend an Academic Level Assessment on Thursday, June 15th

from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Other Important Information:

Upon successful completion of a high school summer course, a course credit/grade report will be mailed to the student’s home school unless otherwise notified

Textbooks are loaned to students during summer school. Charges will be assessed for any lost or damaged textbooks.

The non-refundable deposit will be applied toward course fees. WSSA reserves the right to cancel classes due to insufficient enrollment.

Tuition will be refunded, along with deposit if a course is cancelled.

It is our Refund Policy that students who are asked to withdraw from summer school for disciplinary reasons, excessive tardiness, or absences will not receive a refund for tuition or fees.

Academic Programs

Grades K-8

Morning Academics - $500 Grades

1-3 Dyslexia Intervention - $450

Morning academics reviewing math, reading, and language arts. [Non-WSSA students will be assessed for placement on Thursday, June 15th, 8:30 a.m.-12:00p.m.]

Intervention for students who have a reading disability or are a grade level or more behind in reading. Class size is limited to 10 students.

Reading Intervention - $400 Grades

9-12 High School Courses

$525 (0.5 credit) or $1,000 (1 credit)

The computer-based program Lexia Learning will provide structured practice focusing on phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Students can earn up to one high school credit from core subjects. Choose from courses listed on the registration form.

Ceramics

During this one-week course, students will focus on creating 3-Dimensional art pieces created with clay and/or papier-mache.

During this one-week course, students will focus on creating several ceramic pieces including bowls, cups, boxes, and more.

Technology is progressing so quickly that we are moving beyond LEGOS. Students will utilize new technology to learn about circuits, programming, and design. Students will design and build their own robot from a variety of parts that they can take home for further exploration.

This Robotics program explores various Robotics systems. We will utilize both Arduino and Raspberry Pi technologies to build not only robots, but open the door to a world of new technology with applications that are limitless to the student’s imagination. Students will take home all of their creations to continue exploration.

Afternoon Enrichment Program Each week our Afternoon Program is based on a theme filled with fun activities in a recreational setting that may include skating, swimming, arts and crafts, games, science experiments, hiking in area parks,

trips to museums, movies, and so much more. Afternoon snacks will be provided.

Dog Dayz of Summer

Field trip to: Pet Shelter and/or San Antonio Zoo

This week’s activities we will focus on learning about different animals and pets and how to care for them. Children will also learn how to make toys and bake treats for pets, which will then be delivered to the pet shelter. Possible guest speaker, TBD.

Week 2

Up Up And…Away

Field trip to: Altitude/Thin Air and/or DoSeum

This week’s focus will be about all things “Air”. Students will learn to design, create, and make kites, design paper airplanes and have a longest distance and best design contest. We will also make bubbles and engage in Bubble Wars as well as play some badminton.

The Great Outdoors

Field trip to: Cibolo Nature Center & Farm

and a Local Plant Nursery This week’s activities will be centered on all things nature. Activities include having each student plant their own herb garden to take home. We will learn all about safety in gardening. Students will learn how to conserve water and create a “Recycled” art project.

Week 4

The Big Screen

Field trip to: The Movie Theatre/The Magik Theatre

and/or a local TV Station

This week we will watch and learn about different genres of movies. While using iMovies (an app), students will work in groups to develop and write their own script before creating their own movie. Possible guest speaker, TBD.

Each one-week program is designed to develop and enhance athletic skills through drills, games and competitions while focusing on strength, agility, and conditioning for all sports in preparation for students to be “sport ready” for the start of the school year. Coaches will group by age.

This one-week program is designed to introduce and emphasize basic volleyball skills. We will focus on skills through fun games while learning the rules of volleyball. The girls will need knee pads, athletic clothes, athletic shoes, and water bottle. Coaches will group by age.

This one-week program is designed to enhance and emphasize volleyball skills from the basics to mastering different positions. We will focus on mental capabilities as well as our enthusiasm for the game. We will also work daily on different drills that help footwork, handwork, and raise our ability level as a player.

Students will benefit from in-depth instruction aimed at providing skills and knowledge that will enhance training techniques through a skilled-learning process. The focus will be fundamentals, discipline, and the mental skills needed for all positions to be successful.

This one-week program is designed to develop basketball skills and knowledge for players of all levels. The main focus of the program will sharpen the fundamentals of the game enhanced by game time situations. Coaches will group by age.

SOCCER PROGRAMS

Grades K-12

Soccer Full Day ($185) & Half Day Camp ($145)

(Ages 6-16)

This program partnering with World Wide Soccer will offer technical training using a curriculum with emphasis on small-sided games and coached scrimmages. Players will move from 1v1 through 4v4 exercises and will work on both tactical and technical skills to improve their techniques, decision-making abilities and speed of play. Full Day players will break one-hour for lunch and enjoy an afternoon of soccer activities focusing on goal scoring, shooting and finishing games, scrimmages and water games to cool off. All full day and half day camps will compete in the “World Wide Soccer World Cup”, a week-long tournament held at the end of each morning session with Finals on Friday morning.

Dates: Week 1: June 19-23 & Week 4: July 10-14

FUTSAL – Indoor Soccer Half Day Camp ($100)

(Ages 6-15)

This program partnering with E2 Prodigy Fitness and Soccer Development will offer an exciting, fast-paced, small sided soccer game that is widely played across the world and officially recognized by both UEFA and FIFA. The nature of the games places a large emphasis on technical skills and ability in situations of high pressure, and is an excellent breeding ground for soccer competencies that can be translated into the 11v11 format of the game. We will be focusing on the technical abilities as well as attacking/defensive futsal play. It is played indoors and will enhance your child’s speed of play, cognitive thinking, special awareness, ball control, 1v1 skills and much more. Please wear soccer gear and bring your own water bottle.
