Formal and informal language By Megan Sheraton

Kerrang! Front coverThe magazine author has used direct mode of address within the image as the singers are looking directly at the audience to draw them into buying the magazine. It also shows that the audience have a relationship within the magazine as they are making eye contact with the main singers throughout the magazine. It is a quite informal magazine theme, as its aim is to attract younger generations rather than older generations, their age range would probably be 16+ and interested in a wide/specific music range. Also the image of the main band cover part of the title to empathies that the band I bigger than kerrang magazine itself. Kerrang try to inform the buyer of what they will find throughout the magazine by cramming the front cover full of images and snappy headlines to get the reader interested and excited to buy/read this magazine.

Kerrang! Double page spreadThe magazine double spread is still quite informal by the layout, as they have used a full scale image with choppy subheadings and bold titles. They have used direct mode of address during the sub heading to get the reader thinking about the question asked throughout the article. The image instantly grips the readers attention and makes them want to read on to find out what happened and why. During the main article it is written in a formal manner unlike the rest of the double page spread, it is written this way to make it easier for the reader to understand and in a manner that will grip their attention throughout the article and not bore them! There is not much text throughout this article which speaks a lot for the type of magazine it is aiming at, it is really short and snappy which targets the audience perfectly.
