The redevelopment of the site proposes to create a new park for West London as a new public amenity. There are a number of vibrant and differentiated communities adjacent to the site who will benefit from the redevelopment of the site.

The site has the potential to contribute as a public amenity for London and Hounslow to the open space network, provide public amenity and connect to local places of interest. The site has the capacity to provide key urban linkages between Hounslow and the Cranford Countryside Park, part of the London Green Belt, and the River Crane, part of the Blue Ribbon Network.

As a new park for London, the landscape concept is to create an integrated engineering and landscape structure that provides local and regional connections is topographically diverse, botanically rich and ecologically sustainable. In addition to the strong connections to the surrounding context, a central aspiration of the design is to develop a landscape that references the English tradition of landscape parks. The site will provide generous open spaces and activity zones. As part of the gravel extraction process the topsoil and upper sand, gravel and silt layer will be used to form a new topography across the site. The topography will form raised embankments defining routes and edges and buffering sound.

2. A new public amenity

Comparative green space across London The character of tree planting to reflect localised conditions and relate to the surrounding botanical context. The site has been referred to in the current UDP as Comprehensive Project Area 6 (Green Belt open land identified as requiring renovation landscape work). To the northeast the back gardens of houses fronting Brabazon Road and Armytage Road about the site boundary. The northern boundary of the site fronts Cranford Lane, which joins the High Street at a T-junction. A formal double alley is proposed along the main residential thoroughfare at the eastern edge of the site. Across the site the embankments are planted with trees screening views of low flying aircraft and surrounding primary traffic routes.

We are aware that the gravel extraction of this scale has a very large time-scale. As such we have designed the park to be delivered in phases that allow the local community and London to benefit from the use of the park at the early stages of development.
