2. Update on WASH activities (Implementation progress to-date

SOLIDARIЀS INTERNATIONAL Water trucking at Bulabulin camps (ongoing) supplying 50,000 litres of

chlorinated water daily. Construction material were mobilized to site for the construction of 12 blocks

of latrines and 4 blocks of showers where NRC constructed shelters in Fulatari, pit excavation to commence today 20 th/03/2018.

Active hygiene promotion is ongoing by our hygiene promotion team in Agric and Bulabulin camp- 800 people participated.

Construction of new deep borehole at Bulabulin camp is ongoing. Construction of 2 emergency water distribution points at Shuwari is ongoing,

each distribution point is equipped with 10,000 litres capacity tank and 12 taps, one point completed and water will be supplied via trucking.

Weekly environmental sanitation at Agric and Bulabulin conducted with 2,000 and 1,300 participants among the beneficiaries respectively in the previous weeks.

Construction of 4 water fetching point each with 6 taps each for the ongoing Bulabulin camp deep borehole drilling.

The following latrine cleaning materials distributed to latrine management committees in addition to the already distributed for clean upkeep of the latrines: 6 gallons of Clorox, 6 brooms, 5 buckets, 2 hard brush, 1 packet of face mask, 2 jerry can

Rehabilitation of shehu sanda kura borehole on going.

WASH and protection conducted integration of services during international women day with 86 persons educated on hygiene promotion and personal health and hygiene.

Conducting manual dislodgements of 17 blocks of 5 stances latrines in Sangaya IDPs camp and ongoing truck desludging of latrines in Kilaguro and Motor park.

Distributed latrines cleaning kits in Dikwa, comprising of 20 gallons of Izals detergent/germicide 20 hard brooms,20 softs brooms, 20 local brooms, 4 packs of nose masks, 20 sets of rainboots, 20 sets of heavy duty hand gloves, 5 buckets of 20 litres were supplied to shehuri.

Supplied 90 litres of fuel to three water points maintained by fhi 360. Batch chlorination of water points in Dikwa still a daily routine. Completed the registration of 979 household beneficiaries of hygiene kits

mostly the new arrivals. Distribution and pasting of 100 IEC materials in IDPs and host communities

to influence behavioral change of affected populations to stop bad practice of hygiene activities to good practice to accelerate hygiene promotion in Dikwa.

Conducted two weekly environmental cleanup campaigns in four camps. Celebration of world water day on 22nd of March 2018 with over 2000

persons attended

NRC 600 Hygiene Kits distributed in Bulaburin, Fulatari, shuwari and 20 housing. Rehabilitation of Shuwari and Ajari MBH 48 Household Sanitation Training for 96 Participant (two beneficiaries each

per household) concluded. 30 water users committee training for all NRC’s water points in (Kilagoru,

Shuwari, Ajari Camp, Kaza, Shewuri and Sangaya Camp) different locations both HP and MBH concluded.

Construction and Rehabilitation of 60 Latrines at Kaza and Shuwari Community concluded.

Distribution of Latrine Cleaning Materials in Kaza and Shuwari to 60 Households

Mobilization of 72 participants for Household Sanitation Training (two beneficiaries each per household)

and kamcheji solar powered Borehole. Payment of stipend to 120 workers and 12 supervisors. Monitoring of ongoing construction of 6 blocks of 12 compartment at

Sangaya primary school, Bulabulin primary and 1000 ICRC camp primary school almost 95 % completed.

Supervision of ongoing upgrading SPBH at Bulabulin central mosque. The bladder and the platform are installed.

Monitoring of daily camp cleaning by RUWASSA/UNICEF volunteers at 12 camps implemented.

IOM Identification of WASH gaps in all sites. Referrals of WaSH gaps to appropriate wash partners. Training of WASH committees in all sites.

Hygiene promotion campaign.

3 ACTION POINTS . NFIs should be reserved for new arrivals Community awareness and sensitization on latrine use; message should

include beneficiaries should avoid dumping of solid waste like broken bottles, metals and wood through the drop holes.

SEMA and IOM should look into the town/community planning to ensure access to various places for better implementation.

All WASH partners that construct latrines should endeavour to install hand washing points

Gender segregation should be considered while constructing latrines to avoid GBV issues (physical, sexual assault. Dignity and respect of

Partners with plans and capacity to construct latrines in any of the NRC’s shelters (camps) should feel free to approach NRC WASH team to have updates and know where it should be built.
