WHO ARE

FORMULA UCLAN?

Formula UCLan is the University o Central Lancashire’sracing team, run by the third year students on theMotor Sports courses. With a mix o Bachelors andMasters degree level Engineering, Operations and CADcourses, the students in the team possess a wealtho knowledge and experience. In the 3rd year, the

students in Formula UCLan use all the knowledge theyhave gained over the course to design, develop, buildand test a race car with the intention o competingin, and winning, the Formula Student and Shell EcoMarathon events.

The university also runs UCLan Racing a team whooperate Formula Fords and have competed in thepopular North West Formula Ford Championship since2001. UCLan Racing also competes in the British andWorld Championships or F3 Hovercrat where students

help to design and build the crat rom scratch. Thishelps the students to get involved and get some handson experience to complement their well structuredlectures and workshop-based studies.

Now in its 25th year and taking place in Germany, theEco Marathon challenges 200 teams rom 49 countriesto compete pushing the boundaries o vehicleefciency, breaking records along the way. The event is

backed by Shell with the goal o promoting sustainablemobility whilst exploiting the potential o alternativeuel sources and addressing the environmental impactlinked to the use o ossil uels.

Formula Student is the largest educational engineeringcompetition o its kind in Europe and runs every year.In 2009 it attracted 110 teams rom 94 universities,rom 21 countries, in 5 racing categories with well over

2,000 students in attendance. Run by the Institution oMechanical Engineers, it is backed by industry leaderssuch as Airbus, Autodesk, e.on and The Mathworks;and high profle proessionals such as its patron RossBrawn and Damon Hill. Last year, Formula UCLan won

the Class 1A Sustainability Challenge.
