Overview
This interactive FORS workshop and on-cycle practical session aims to reduce work-related road risks and create long-term behavioural change in the van sector.
By being more aware of driver and vehicle safety, learning how to avoid hazards and understanding why vulnerable road users (such as cyclists) behave the way they do, your drivers will develop a ‘safe driving’ strategy which will reduce the risk of collisions or confrontation.
Our Van Smart training supports operators tendering for business or meeting contractual obligations where WRRR (Work Related Road Risk) and FORS best practice standard is required.
TTC is registered as a FORS Associate.

At the end of the course, drivers will be able to:
Specify the law relating to drivers’ hours and breaks, describe safe loading procedures and explain how to plan a journey effectively
Explain speed limits and basic safety rules for van drivers, guidelines regarding fitness to drive and how to ensure the vehicle is roadworthy
Identify the characteristics of a professional driver and explain how defensive driving can be used to recognise and avoid hazards
Gain first-hand experience as a vulnerable road user through on-cycle hazard awareness and recognise why cyclists behave the way they do

Delivery method
The FORS Professional workshop is facilitated by a professional driver trainer who will fully engage with participants to maximise the learning experience and draw out their views and opinions.
The cycling activities are undertaken by a Bikeability registered cycling instructor.
