Coming This Fall In September, FCM will host another traveling exhibit from the American

Heritage Center in Laramie titled Water is Wyoming’s Gold: Better Living

Through Reclamation. Learn about the essential role water

plays in our state. Learn how it is vital for recreation, irrigation, and agricul-

ture, and for generating electricity. This exhibit will be on view Sept 12 to

Nov 24, 2018.

Our Educator Jayme McGoonan and her daughter, volunteer Shannon McGoonan, have planted an heirloom garden at the Fort again this year. They are growing cabbage, cucumbers, cantaloupes, watermelons, pumpkins, summer squash, salsify, carrots, onions, radishes, turnips, tomatoes, and peas (oh my!). They are using heirloom seeds from varieties that might have been available to the

soldiers stationed at old Fort Casper in the 1860s.

Please consider helping out with weeding and/or watering. Contact Jayme for more info at 235-8462

or [email protected].

Dear FCMA Members:

Once again, I would like to thank all of you who stepped up to support our efforts to keep Fort Caspar Museum open year round. We would not have been successful without members

of the community speaking out.

I am asking you to maintain that support. Please keep the Museum in your thoughts throughout the year: view the changing exhibits; attend events and programs such as our upcoming fundraisers (the plate sale on June 16th and the Murder Mystery on August 25th) and the monthly family –friendly workshops; shop in the Museum’s store;

and recommend the Museum as a must-see for visitors and as a rental space for events.

We know it’s true: history does matter! Let’s ensure that Fort Caspar Museum

continues to have a vital future preserving Casper’s past.

—Con Trumbull, Chair, FCMA Board

The FCMA’s Fourth Annual Murder Mystery Fundraiser is scheduled for the

evening of Saturday, August 25th.

It will be a western-themed murder event held outdoors at the historic Gothberg Ranch, located just west of Casper off of

Route 220.

More information on this entertaining and interactive fundraiser will be announced

as the details are finalized.

Murder Mystery Fundraiser

FCMA Volunteers Honored At the FCMA’s Spring Lunch & Learn program on May 19th, Fort Caspar Museum’s 2017 volunteers were recognized. Our volunteers help at the front desk, give tours to school kids, assist with special events, and more. Thank you to: Sophie Bakken, Carolyn Buff, Wayne Clements, Mary Lynn Corbett, Trey Corkern, Jenna Crouse, Linda Crowder, Dale Gregory, Bob & Roxann Gray, Shannon McGoonan, Kaye Reed, Tiffany Reed, and Shannon Tippit. We couldn’t do it all without you! (If you would like to become a FCMA volunteer, we’d love to have you join us! Call for info.)

Jefferson Award for Wayne Clements Fort Caspar Museum was proud to nominate volunteer Wayne Clements for a Jefferson Award. He has given dozens of tours to school children from Natrona County and from communities all over Wyoming. He has made several presentations to other groups, and he also helps out at the Museum’s front desk, greeting visitors. Wayne volunteers at other organizations around Casper as

well. He is so generous with his time and talent, and we are lucky to have him. Thank you, Wayne!

FCMA Fundraisers — Help Us Raise Money for Programs at the Fort

Long-time FCMA member Nancy Martinson inherited her mother’s decora-tive collector plate collection. But her mother’s passion was not her own, so she decided to put the plates to good use by donating them to the FCMA as

a fundraising tool. Collected over the course of many years, themes represented on the plates include Disney, Norman Rockwell, Hummels, Western to Medieval topics,

Will Rogers, and even Picasso.

These plates will be up for grabs on Saturday, June 16th at the Museum. A special members-only preview will be from 10 to 11am, followed by general admission from 11am to 1pm. What-ever does not sell will be put up for auction

on eBay. Please come see the plates, buy one or two, and help us

raise funds!

THANK YOU, FCMA VOLUNTEERS!

Wayne Clements receives a 2018 Jefferson

Award for his extraordinary service. Wayne

is a school tour docent and helps at the

Museum’s front desk.

Caspar Collins Day is July 21st

Join us Saturday, July 21st from 9am to 4pm to commem-orate the 153rd anniversary of the Battle of Platte Bridge. This event is FREE and open to the public. There will be Cavalry & Infantry soldiers, pioneers, cowboy sharp shooters, atlatl & tomahawk throwing, handcarts, pioneer games, and more. We will also have a vendor mart

and food trucks.
