Cyber T.E.A.M.S.Department Of Defense Education Agency Grant -2011
STEM learning, as broadly defined by the CYBER-TEAMS initiative, means more than memorizing scientific facts or learning mathematical processes. STEM learning is a mindset; an educational philosophy for how students approach challenges with curiosity and solve them with rigor. We embrace the STEM to STEAM movement. Integrating art and design brings beauty, meaning, and inspiration to traditional STEM fields. The letters in STEAM have been rearranged to form “TEAMS,” because teamwork is vital to professional success today.
We believe that student collaboration at the earliest grade levels is essential for all students to benefit from CYBER-TEAMS.
We believe that teacher professional development should be designed to spark threshold moments in students’ lives.
We believe that student learning should be directly relevant to 21st Century living and career success.
CyberTEAMS
What is the T.E.A.M.S. Lab?● The Transformation - 2000-2015● It is a hands-on, investigative classroom.● We focuses on STEM Education with the ARTS.● K-6 grade students attend once a week.● Lessons are developed from the Next Generation Science Standards with
an Engineering approach.
TEAMS Lab Lesson1. Standards Based - Next Generation Science Standards: Life Science, Physical Science, Earth and Space Science, Engineering
2. Inquiry Based
3. STEM+Arts Focused
4. Engaging and Innovative with Technology
Hour of Code● hourofcode.com or code.org
● Participated for a week for all grades
● Smartboard Introduction

● 1-6 - Lightbots App
● 5-6 - Scratch and Hopscotch App
Physical Science Lesson
First Grade Study about Sound
Students were challenged to find the loudest or quietest area in our school. Groups walked around the building carrying iPads. Using the Decibel 10th, students collected data. Once we had walked around the building, we gathered back in the lab and arranged the data in a chart to discover the decibel differences. Graphs were created to compare the data.
