General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital was awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology.

Mammography is a specific type of imaging test that uses a low-dose X-ray system to examine breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.

Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed.

The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

The ACR, founded in 1924, is a professional medical society dedicated to serving patients and society by empowering radiology professionals to advance the practice, science and professions of radiological care.

Regimental Command Sgt. Maj. Michael Bennett is the first individual within the 31E, Internment/Resettlement Specialist, military occupational specialty to hold this position and is no stranger to Fort Leonard Wood.

“This is a bit of a historical moment,” said Brig. Gen. Brian Bisacre, USAMP School commandant. “(He) is the first Echo, and that should and always will be a point of pride and history for our regiment.” FULL STORY

Two Basic Combat Training infantry battalions on Fort Leonard Wood celebrated their regimental week March 4 through 8 that culminated with a little friendly competition. Four teams representing 2nd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment and 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment, competed in four events designed to bring together aspects of maneuver support.

“We wanted to showcase what is at Fort Leonard Wood and MSCoE,” said Lt. Col. William Earl, 3-10th Inf. Bn. commander. “Many don’t have a good appreciation of what an MP does, what an engineer does. When they go back to the operational force, they have an appreciation of what is at their left and right.” FULL STORY

The U.S. Army began fielding M17 and M18 Modular Handgun Systems to the Military Police School at Fort Leonard Wood in December to replace the force’s aging Beretta M9, a weapon that has been in use since the mid-1980s and is quickly reaching its serviceability limits.

The U.S. Army Engineer School combined forces with the U.S. Army Military Police School and presented a virtual staff ride overview brief Jan. 14 at Fort Leonard Wood’s Digital Training Facility. The objective of the brief was to discuss the future utilization of Large-Scale Combat Operations VSRs, such as the newly developed World War II Stalingrad and Korean War Chipyong-ni VSR.

The briefing was attended by doctrine analysts, training and curriculum developers and leaders from the Basic Officer Leader Course, Captains Career Course, Engineer Warrant Officer Basic Course, Engineer Warrant Officer Advanced Course, Engineer Prime Power School and current students of the Reserve Engineer Senior Leader Course.

VSRs are created in a digital 3D environment, which allows Soldiers to examine, analyze and discuss the effect terrain has on combat operations.

The 33rd annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Conference is scheduled for Feb. 14 through Feb. 16 and one Fort Leonard Wood Soldier will be among the “best of the best” recognized at the event. Chief Warrant Officer 3 Augustus Wright, U.S. Army Engineer School Department of Instruction, Geospatial Engineering training developer, will receive a 2019 BEYA STEM award for Modern-Day Technology Leaders Friday in Washington. The awards are presented to individuals who exhibit exemplary performance in their field and are shaping the future of STEM.

Wright, a native of Savannah, Georgia, was nominated for modernizing the Geospatial Engineering Technician courses on Fort Leonard Wood. According to Wright, courses now place emphasis on credentialing, data science, artificial intelligence and current implications to national security.

“Geospatial technicians now leave the United States Army Engineer School with cutting-edge skills that better enable them to support the warfighter using modern technology,” Wright said.

This is not the first award Wright has received over his 20-year career; he has also received the Army Engineer Bronze Order of De Fleury, the Intelligence Corps Knowlton Award, and has been nominated for the U.S. Army Engineer School’s 2019 Best Warrant Officer Award (active duty).

Wright initially joined the Army to help pay for college, starting him on a path that would lead to becoming a Geospatial Engineering warrant officer. “As a high schooler, I took four years of drafting and design, which is where I developed a love for geodesy and schematics,” Wright said.
