HEADS MESSAGE

Following on from last weeks’ successful workshops at Swallows, the Hales Thrive parent workshops have been equally well attended. The additional session booked up within 24 hours meaning that 160 parents have found out about this innovative, child-centred approach. I must express my gratitude to Mrs Gayton, Miss Soan, Mrs Brindley and Mrs Parkes for leading the events and communicating their enthusiasm so effectively. They have already offered to run yet another workshop early in the New Year for anyone interested who has not yet managed to book a place. I wonder how many families will be spending some of their weekend untangling strings of Christmas lights. It’s certainly on my ‘jobs list’ for Saturday. In school preparations are underway for the Christmas Fayre, trips to the theatre, the Nursery sing-a-long, Reception Nativity and our Carol Service. At this especially busy time of year, please do keep an eye on ‘Calendar-Wiz’ so you have all of the information you need. Kind regards,

Mrs G Bowser Headteacher

It will be charged to the correct children’s dinner money account on ParentPay on the day. Main meal plus Dessert—£3.35

HOLIDAY CLUB Holiday club forms are now available and can be found at Hales and Swallows receptions and via the KHPS website

NON UNIFORM DAY There will be a non uniform day on Friday 7th December in exchange for a bottle or sweets as donations for the Tombola for the Christmas Fayre. Please make sure that any contributions are sealed and in date.

CANCELLED CLUB

All after school clubs on Friday 7th December will be cancelled due to the Christmas Fayre

‘Wake Up Music’ club at Swallows will be cancelled on Monday 17th December due to rehearsals for the Coven-try Cathedral Carol Service.

SCHOOL SHOP CLOSURE The school shop will be closed for the Christ-mas period on Monday 10th December and will re-open Thursday 3rd of January at 9am.

The Eco team have started our Switch Off Fortnight by giving assemblies at both sites last week to remind us all of the importance of saving energy. They also announced a poster competition: The Rules: The posters can be hand-drawn or done on the comput-er. They should be brightly coloured to attract people’s attention. They should also have information about saving elec-tricity. This could be: switching off the lights and pro-jectors and keeping the heating low or anything else you think important. Entries should be handed in to Reception (or placed in the box at Hales) by Monday 3rd December. There will be prizes for the best posters and they will be displayed in all of the classrooms.

CHRISTMAS STALLS Ms Wozencroft has stated that all applications for the Christmas Stalls have been accepted and are good to go. The children will come home with more infor-mation today.

MISSION CHRISTMAS Don’t forget it’s your last weekend to pick up a pre-sent for a little boy or girl living in poverty and sup-port Mrs Brand and Mission Christmas. Mission Christ-mas have over 5000 children in care to deliver to this year; let’s make a difference to those tiny hearts this winter time! More information can be found on the attached poster. Thank you for supporting this worthy cause.

PA CHRISTMAS FAYRE If any parents are available to volunteer even if just for a short time at the Christmas Fayre on Friday 7th December it would be much appreciated. Please email [email protected] for more information.

SCHOOL UNIFORM SWALLOWS Following on from last week's message, thank you to those parents who have adhered to the school uniform issue hat and scarf. Miss Cook has a growing collection of jumpers, hats and coats which are all unnamed. We request that all items of clothing are named in or-der for us to return them should they end up in lost property. Next week staff will be doing spot checks on uniform and issuing notes home where we find un-named items.

YEAR 6 GOLDEN RATIO INVESTIGATION Year 6 have been studying ratio and proportion in Maths over the past couple of weeks. On Monday, members of Mrs Osman's Maths class honed their measuring skills, investigating how our bodies are pre-fect example of the Golden Ratio mathematical for-mula. This led them to further investigate patterns such as the spirals in snail shells and other proportions found in nature. A cool way in which Maths can apply to the real world!

YEAR 6 VISIT TO COVENTRY CATHEDRAL AND HOLY TRINITY CHURCH As part of their current Religious Education topic on Christianity, Year 6 pupils visited the new and old cathedrals along with the Holy Trinity Church on Tues-day this week. In addition to the religious focus, they also studied the art work associated with the stained glass windows with the help of Mrs Sutherland. Over the next few weeks they will be drawing on their find-ings and observational sketches as they create their own symbolic strained glass windows. Children were also treated to a guided tour of both cathedrals and Holy Trinity during which there was extensive discus-sion of the night of the Blitz. This will link directly into learning during the Lent Term on World War II and provide pupils with an understanding of the histo-ry of our city. Despite the cold, staff, pupils and helpers had a very informative and inspiring day and returned back to the warmth of Hales ready to put their new learning to good

WELL DONE KESHAV! On Saturday, Keshav in Year 4 en-tered the Coventry Speech and Drama competition for the first time. He competed with 16 other children all within the 8-9 age range and won! Well done Keshav!

YEAR 5 SHAKESPEARE WEEK

Year 5's Shakespeare Week kicked off with a trip to The RSC in Stratford for workshops led by professional actors or directors. This was followed by a visit to Shakespeare's birthplace. Back at school we have been working hard with each class exploring a different play: one tragedy, one comedy and one historical dra-ma. It has been great to see their enthusiasm and the confi-dence with which they are beginning to learn and de-liver Shakespearean lines! They are looking forward to sharing some of their work with you next week.

Swallows campus will be hosting next term's book fair. Keep an eye out for dates and times in Sagitta after the Christmas holidays! Mrs E Tucker

KHPS YEAR 5 AND 6 INVITATIONAL SWIMMING GALA - NOVEMBER 2018 One of the highlights of this term is always our invita-tional swimming gala which we have been hosting now for a number of years. The competition is always fierce and this year was no exception. Our swimmers have worked very hard in preparation for this gala and should be very proud of themselves. It was lovely to see so many parents supporting our swimmers, thank you. Results: Year 5 Boys - 4th Year 5 Girls - 1st Year 6 Boys - 4th Year 6 Girls - 5th Overall - Boys 5th, Girls 4th
