WelcomePrayer

Service led by Chris Buss

I'll Praise My MakerWhile I've Breath

1. I'll praise my Maker while I've breath;and when my voice is lost in death,praise shall employ my nobler powers:My days of praise shall ne'er be past,while life, and thought, and being last,

or immortality endures.

2. Happy the man whose hopes relyon Israel's God. He made the sky

and earth and sea, with all their train;His truth for ever stands secure;

He saves the oppressed, He feeds the poor,and none shall find His promise vain.

3. The Lord gives eyesight to the blind;the Lord supports the fainting mind;

He sends the labouring conscience peace;He helps the stranger in distress,the widow and the fatherless,

and grants the prisoner sweet release.

4. I'll praise Him while He lends me breath;and when my voice is lost in death,praise shall employ my nobler powers:My days of praise shall ne'er be past,while life, and thought, and being last,

or immortality endures.

Isaac Watts, 1674-1748

Thou Art the Everlasting Word

1. Thou art the everlasting Word,The Father’s only Son;

God manifestly seen and heard,And Heav’n’s belovèd one:

RefrainWorthy, O Lamb of God, art Thou

That every knee to Thee should bow!

2. In Thee most perfectly expressedThe Father’s glories shine;Of the full deity possessed,Eternally divine: [Refrain]

3. True image of the Infinite,Whose essence is concealed;Brightness of uncreated light;

The heart of God revealed: [Refrain]

4. But the high mysteries of Thy nameAn angel’s grasp transcend;

The Father only—glorious claim!—The Son can comprehend: [Refrain]5. Throughout the universe of bliss,

The centre Thou, and sun,The eternal theme of praise is this,To Heav’n’s belovèd One: [Refrain]

Message

Psalm 23:1-6 (NKJV)

“The LORD is my shepherd;I shall not want.He makes me to lie down in green pastures;He leads me beside the still waters.He restores my soul;He leads me in the paths of righteousnessFor His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of theshadow of death,I will fear no evil;For You are with me;Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presenceof my enemies;You anoint my head with oil;My cup runs over.Surely goodness and mercy shall follow meAll the days of my life;And I will dwell in the house of the LORDForever.”

At the Graveside

My Hope is Built on Nothing Less

1. My hope is built on nothing lessthan Jesus’ blood and righteousness;I dare not trust the sweetest frame,but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

RefrainOn Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;all other ground is sinking sand,all other ground is sinking sand.

2. When darkness veils his lovely face,I rest on His unchanging grace;In every high and stormy gale,my anchor holds within the veil.

3. His oath, His covenant and His blood,support me in the ‘whelming flood;When all around my soul gives way,He then is all my hope and stay.

4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,O may I then in Him be found!

Dressed in His righteousness alone,faultless to stand before the throne.

Edward Mote, 1797-1874

When this Passing World is Done

1. When this passing world is done,when has sunk the radiant sun,when I stand with Christ on high,

looking o'er life's history,then, Lord, shall I fully know,not till then, how much I owe.

2. When I stand before the throne,dressed in beauty not my own,when I see thee as thou art,

love thee with unsinning heart,then, Lord, shall I fully know,not till then, how much I owe.

3. When the praise of heaven I hear,loud as thunders to the ear,loud as many waters' noise,

sweet as harp's melodious voice,then, Lord, shall I fully know,not till then, how much I owe.

4. Chosen not for good in me,wakened up from wrath to flee,hidden in the Saviour’s side,by the Spirit sanctified,

teach me, Lord, on earth to show,by my love, how much I owe.

Robert M. M’Cheyne, 1823-1843
