Rolla is the County Seat of Phelps county with an estimated population of 16,983. The community also serves residents of rural Missouri including a 30-mile radius with an estimated population of over 130,000. Located half way between St. Louis and Springfield, Rolla is accessible to traffic from Interstate 44, US Highway 63 and Missouri Highway 72. Burlington Northern-Santa Fe’s main rail line passes through Rolla. Rolla/Phelps County was the US Census year 2000 Demographic Center of the United States adding new meaning to the community slogan, “The Middle of Everywhere.” This central location makes access to major city markets, like St. Louis, Kansas City, Memphis, Chicago and Dallas/Ft. Worth quick and convenient.
