THIS MONTH’S SPECIAL
Every Rotarian Every SG50 Card
Rotary celebrates SG50 with a specially designed flashcard for all Rotarians to use and give away to create better awareness of Rotary in Singapore. The design is intentionally RED with a map of Singapore embodying the ideals and works of Rotary. In addition we also put Rotary’s focus for the public to create better awareness of Rotary worldwide.
Every Rotarian in Singapore will be given one card free. Additional orders for family, relatives, friends, and business associates can be collectively placed through your own club to enjoy quantity discount. For those clubs who want to use this opportunity to do community projects by giving away this card to needy people, Club Presidents or Project Directors can partner
FRCS for a joint project and enjoy the matching grant benefits.
FRCS’ Programmes and Project Committee Members just completed their visits to all 22 clubs to explain the assistance FRCS can render to all clubs in Singapore, like IPC benefits for fund raising and project matching grant benefits, and also to work with FRCS for image creating projects like providing flashcards and wheelchairs. For the next 3 months, the committee will reach out to clubs for their application for FRCS programmes and projects. It will be a proactive approach to create greater awareness of FRCS assistance to 22 clubs.
The committee comprises of Chairman PP Alex Eow, Deputy Chairmen DGE Michael Yee and DGND Henry Tan, committee members PP Rajamohan Munisamy, PP Khushroo Dastur, PP Dr Reto Callegari and PP Perlita Tiro. For easy operation and co-operation, each committee member is assigned a group of clubs, in line with the grouping for Assistant Governors.
If you have not received your own NETS FlashPay Card yet, contact your Rotary Club President or Secretary.

THE ROTARY HOUSE
After the establishment of the Foundation, a Committee was formed to purchase a property. However, due to many financial obligations faced by the Foundation, the project was never completed.
Up to 2010, the Foundation operated from the Clementi Family Service Centre.
However, when the Government decided to finance 99% of the cost of running the Family Service Centre, the
Foundation was asked to leave the premises. NCSS then gave the Foundation a place at Chinatown Point.
THE BASIC NEEDS
A general secretariat to serve the needs of the Foundation and the Rotary Clubs in general.
A “HOME” for the Rotaract movement to grow in service.
A meeting place for the Interact Co-ordinating Committee (ICC).
A multi-purpose hall for seminars, lectures, workshops and meetings.
Two conference rooms.
One training room.
One room for counselling / mentoring.
A Library / Archive.
THE URGENCY OF GETTING A “HOME” FOR THE FOUNDATION
The lease for the Chinatown Point Premises will end in two years’ time.
To celebrate SG50, the Government, through its “Care & Share” scheme, has agreed to match every dollar
collected for this project with an extra S$1.25 up to S$1m till December 2015.
From January 2016 to March 2016, every dollar collected will be matched with an extra S$1 up to S$1m.
Therefore, if we raise S$2m, the Government will match what we receive as donation with an extra S$2.25m.

ROTARY CLUB PROJECTS 2014-15
Stop Hunger Now, 2015 Organised by the Rotary Club of Singapore on 21 March, 2015
The objective was to gather the youths from our 9 Interact clubs, 400 in total, to purchase the raw ingredients and pack 50,000 meals to be distributed to Foodbank. Foodbank then holds the meals and distributes them to the 100+ voluntary service organisations in Singapore as and when there is a demand.
We raised a total of $26,000, of which $10,000 came from the Rotary Cotton On Youth Foundation. It was enough to purchase the meals and with the help of the volunteers we were able to pack all 50,000 between 8 am and 1 pm.
It’s difficult to measure just how many people will benefit from the total of 50,000 meals, but a conservative number is in the thousands.
We had just over 400 volunteers involved in preparing, packing food, and helping clean up on that day. It was a great day for all involved and we hope to do it again in 2016!

Community Eye Screenings Project at NUH Supported by RI District 3310 & the Foundation of Rotary Clubs (S) Ltd
The Rotary Club of Garden City, together with other Rotary Clubs in Singapore, carried out an Eye Screening Project at NUH Medical Centre on 29 Nov 2014 from 7.30am to 12.30pm. Ms Low Yen Ling, Mayor of South West District, graced the occasion together with our District Governor Hj Andre Suharto.
This was an important activity organised in the preparation of the Rotary D3310 Inter-City Christmas Party to be held in December 2014, for which Rotary International President Gary C. K. Huang was the Guest of Honour.
Our Club sponsored 5 Buses to transfer the beneficiaries from 5 community centres and nursing homes to the NUH Medical Centre and back. For easy identification, 5 different colours of lanyards were issued to 5 groups of beneficiaries.
During the Eye Screening, the 138 beneficiaries had to pass through 5 stations. More than 70 Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors from various Rotary Clubs and other volunteers had participated in this project.

Home Makeover at Kaki Bukit Constituency Organised by the Rotary Club of Bugis Junction on Sunday, 25 January, 2015
With the Chinese New Year around the corner, the Kaki Bukit Citizen’s Consultative Committee (CCC), together with Rotary Club of Bugis Junction (RCBJ), helped nine less fortunate households and families with a home makeover so that they could enjoy the coming New Year in better environment.
RCBJ was invited by the Adviser of Kaki Bukit CCC to participate in the spring cleaning and home makeover project organised from 9am to 6pm on Sunday, 25 January 2015. RCBJ mobilised about 70 people, comprising of Rotarians, their spouses, SIT Rotaractors, ITE students and friends, to join the 100 volunteers from Kaki Bukit GROs to clear, clean, tidy, paint and refurbish the apartments.
RCBJ has also contributed an amount of $15,000 towards the cost of logistics and material.
Everyone involved in the home makeover project truly enjoyed getting the homes cleaned up. It was touching to see how the residents appreciated our help and thanked us when we re-visited them a few days later. For RCBJ members, this was a real Service above Self project which made a big difference in the lives of a few less fortunate!
With the participation of Mr Lim Boon Heng, ex-Cabinet Minister, Special Adviser to Aljunied GRC and Chairman of Temasek Holding, the project was covered in the daily news broadcasts of our local TV channels 8 and Channel News Asia. Mr Lim praised the support provided by the RCBJ in this first home makeover project ever carried out in Kaki Bukit.

ROTARY CLUB PROJECTS 2015-16
Speedy Approval of FRCS Matching Grant Projects
The approval process will only take 12 working days from the day the application form is officially submitted to and accepted by FRCS’ Administrator Jeff with project serial number issued.
All application forms must have Form A (MOU) signed by Club President only once when he is in office. If IRAS double tax deduction is needed for fund raising purposes, Form B (Tax Deduction) must be filled and submitted. For the FRCS Matching Grant projects, Form C (Matching Grant) must be submitted with project costing details and sources of funding identified.
It is a simple process and our Administrator Jeff assisted by Jane will be more than happy to help you to speed up the process of approval. You are urged to visit FRCS’ office at Chinatown Point for simple briefing.
The approval process is handled by FRCS’ Projects and Programmes (P&P) Committee with PP Alex Eow as its Chairman, DGE Michael Yee and DGND Henry Tan as Deputy Chairmen. Committee Members are PP Rajamohan Munisamy from RC Pandan Valley, PP Khushroo Dastur from RC Tanglin, IPP Perlita Tiro from RC Singapore and PP Dr Reto Callegari from RC Bugis Junction. After the review of submission by FRCS’ P&P Committee, the application will then be passed to the BOD for final approval and endorsement. The full process will take less than 12 working days.
FRCS has provisioned S$200,000 per year for 5 years to fund at least 20 joint projects of value S$30,000 or more. The maximum matching grant will be S$10,000 for project value of S$30,000 or more, and it must be a local community project. For smaller projects, FRCS will fund 1/3 of the project cost. The club needs to raise the other 2/3. The objective of the FRCS Matching Grant is to make the local projects bigger, better and to create more PR.

ROTARY’S GUIDING PRINCIPLES
The Guide to Daily Living
Before doing the things we want to do, consider first, the precepts of the guide. Ask yourselves these 4 questions and act upon them:
FIRST: Have I spent time in self-examination? SECOND: Have I spent quality time with my family? THIRD: Have I given my best to my work? FORTH: Have I given some time to someone near and far?
The Guide, in fact, encompasses the 4 parts of the Object of Rotary.
