ConnectedIt’s all about getting and staying connected to the network. Foundation’s various communication options include paging, USNAP™ modular radio, Broadband, or advanced metering infrastructure (AMI). Being a thermostat, Foundation is the ideal gateway to the home because it is always powered and centrally located. Foundation’s integrated ZigBee® radio (compatible with AMI), Wi-Fi plug-in modular radio, and Over-The-Air (OTA) upgrades ensure assets you deploy today will be up-to-date and functional in the future.

Foundation’s built-in gateway also provides utilities with the ability to add other major loads in the home, such as water heaters and pool pumps, to their DR and/or Energy Efficiency programs using Energate’s wired Load Control Switch and/or Plug-in Load Manager. In addition to the utility benefit, added loads extend the built-in home energy management value of Foundation for consumers.

Compatible Foundation is compatible with over 90% of residential HVAC systems deployed across North America. It can be installed in homes without a common wire using Energate’s patented Auxiliary Switch accessory. In fact, the Auxiliary Switch is compatible in locations with as few as two existing wires.

Optimized for rapid retrofit, features like short circuit protection that detects wiring issues and prevents equipment damage make Foundation easy to install.

Foundation will not become a stranded asset. Utilities can deploy Foundation confidently regardless of the initial communications technology, even paging, because it natively supports AMI with a ZigBee HAN (if later deployed by the utility) and replaces the pager module with a Wi-Fi module, allowing Broadband communication.

Standards Based & SecureFoundation provides utility-grade security—it only accepts messages initiated by a trusted source via ZigBee SEP and/or Broadband using a SSL/TLS-secured IP connection ensuring that other communications do not interfere with utility operations and providing consumers with security and privacy. Foundation has been proven secure having passed rigorous security testing by leading utilities and security assurance firms.

FlexibleIn addition to all the communication flexibility, Foundation supports a broad range of direct load control (DLC) and DR programs, rates, and strategies.

In addition to duty cycling, temperature offsets, absolute temperature settings, criticality, and opt-in/opt-out, Foundation also provides its unique ‘comfort setting’ feature allowing consumers to set and forget their price response preferences to the different price periods of Time-of-Use (TOU), Variable Peak Pricing (VPP), Critical Peak Pricing (CPP) and Real-Time Pricing (RTP) programs.
