LEO HistoryOn December 5, 1957, the first Leo club, Abington High School Leo Club, started at the Abington High School in Pennsylvania, USA. In October 1967, the Board of Directors of Lions Clubs International adopted the Leo Club Program as an official program of the association.The Leo Club Program has grown strong for over 50 years.  At present, Leos have their own network of more than 5700 Leo Clubs in approximately 140 nations.

愛迪生大都會獅子會（Edison Metro Lions Club）經過數月慎重審核申請文件後，

決定將電動輪椅捐贈給家住紐約法拉盛的胡桂英。在愛市獅會義工幫助下，胡

桂英已於 11 日順利坐上電動輪椅。

愛市獅會去年底宣布捐贈電動輪椅給無醫療保險且行動不便的人士使用，獲得

社區居民關注。曾在國內任中專教職的胡桂英，看到世界日報刊登的消息後，

立即提交申請。胡桂英因跌傷不能久坐或站立，曾臥病在床一年。主治醫生曾

建議她動手術，但因手術有可能導致癱瘓的風險，胡桂英在權衡後放棄手術，

主要以物理療法治病。

獅會成員在瞭解申請人的困難後，決定將電動輪椅捐贈胡桂英。贈送當日，胡桂英由外孫駕車帶她至東布朗士維克（East Brunswick）的

Churchill Junior 禮堂與獅會成員見面。愛市獅會前總監黃杰源、前會長陳界福、會長鄭兆玲、副會長趙曉華、會員主席陳忻、青少獅顧

問陳松燕等均出席。

陳界福向胡桂英講解示範電動功能，沒想到胡桂英曾任教機械原理和電工學，很快就學會使用輪椅。

胡桂英並告訴獅會義工們她過去的經歷和傷勢，她表示，非常感謝獅會能夠提供貼心捐贈，這部舒適便利且性能良好的電動輪椅，將對

她的生活幫助很大。陳界福和其他義工們一起合力將輪椅抬上車，祝願胡桂英的傷勢能儘快好轉。

黃杰源表示，獅會希望將電動輪椅贈與最需要的申請者，無論其國籍或年齡。經由眾人合作，終於完成此善舉，希望能夠藉此發揚獅會

服務助人的精神。

愛迪生大都會獅子會的音樂團成立三年來﹐ 經常去耆老或護理中心義演。 最近一週內﹐ 應兩家中心之邀﹐ 在莫根維爾市的高登中心和在高地公園耆老中心表演了一小時的節目﹐ 得到中外耆老熱烈的掌聲歡迎。由於在場的華裔觀眾佔大多數﹐讓獅會成員倍感親切。

所有的節目由前會長黃杰源提供音響及策劃。陳忻在高登中心主持節目。精彩的節目包括中外歌曲獨唱﹐中國流行曲如「茉莉花」﹐「踏雪尋梅」和「甜蜜蜜」合唱等﹐鋼琴及薩克管經典樂曲獨奏。舞蹈有現代舞﹐踢踏舞﹐孔雀舞﹐傣族舞﹐劍舞﹐韓國舞和江南騎馬舞。另有幾位獅友為獨唱者伴舞﹐如夏威夷草裙舞和台灣山地舞。高地公園青少獅會的安娜蜜拉悌主持該耆老中心的表演節目﹐她除獨唱最新流行曲外﹐也和全女性的多聲重唱團一起清唱流行歌。其他的青少獅也表演鋼琴獨奏。獅子會的成員大多能歌善舞﹐青少獅成員也展現其舞蹈和獨奏樂器的才華﹐使這次的演出圓滿成功。

愛迪生獅子會在高登中心的表演是應華人部負責人魯振茹的邀請。其俄裔主任 Eugene也在場觀賞。表演結束後﹐他表示﹐非常滿意獅會成員的精彩表演﹐還特地高歌一曲「月亮代表我的心」﹐他字正腔圓的表演﹐真讓人驚喜。高地公園老人中 心的主任 Kim也表示﹐她很欣賞獅子會完美的演出﹐將會再次邀請前來表演。獅會的成員亦很高興有此機會與耆老們同樂﹐共度大好時光。
