Order of Service Opening Hymn 643 (Youth Organisations will process and flags will be received during the Opening Hymn) (Flag bearers—Katie Graham& Lisa Balfour, Ellen Armstrong & Rebecca Mc Crabbe,

Richard Armstrong, Tyler Donaghy, Adam Armstrong, Conor Coalter, and Hannah Hynes)

1. Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart, naught be all else to me, save that thou art;

thou my best thought in the day and the night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

2. Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word,

I ever with thee, and thou with me, Lord; thou my great Father, and I thy true heir; thou in me dwelling, and I in thy care.

3. Be thou my breast-plate, my sword for the fight;

be thou my armour, and be thou my might; thou my soul’s shelter, and thou my high tower,

raise thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

4. Riches I heed not, nor vain empty praise, thou mine inheritance through all my days; thou, and thou only, the first in my heart,

High King of heaven, my treasure thou art.

5. High King of heaven, when the battle is done, grant heaven’s joy to me, O bright heaven’s sun,

Christ of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

Confession God our Father, we come to you in sorrow for our sins. For turning away from you, and ignoring your will for our lives; Father, forgive us: save us and help us. For behaving just as we wish, without thinking of you; Father, forgive us: save us and help us. For failing you by what we do, and think and say; Father, forgive us: save us and help us. For letting ourselves be drawn away from you by temptations in the world about us; Father, forgive us: save us and help us. For living as if we were ashamed to belong to your Son; Father, forgive us: save us and help us. Absolution May God ,our heavenly Father forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord. Amen. Collect

Hymn 325

Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here. Come, bow before him now, with reverence and fear.

In him no sin is found, we stand on holy ground. Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here.

Almighty Father, whose Son was revealed in majesty before he suffered death upon the cross: Give us grace to perceive his glory, that we may be strengthened to suffer with him and be changed into his likeness, from glory to glory;

O God, our teacher and our judge: Enrich our hearts with the goodness of your wisdom and renew us from within: that all our actions, all our thoughts and all our words may bear the fruit of your transforming grace; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around; he burns with holy fire, with splendour he is crowned. How awesome is the sight, our radiant King of light!

Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around.

Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place, he comes to cleanse and heal, to minister his grace.

No work too hard for him, in faith receive from him; be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place.

Dave Evans (bl957) based on Exodus 3: 1-6

1st Reading James 1: 12-18

Read by: Olivia Mc Williams (Brownie) and Ed Wallace (Cub Scout)

Deuteronomy 11: 18-21, 26-28

The first reading is from the book of Deuteronomy , chapter 11 reading from verse 18.

18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 20 Write them on the door-frames of your houses and on your gates, 21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the Lord swore to give your ancestors, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.

26 See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse – 27 the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; 28 the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.

This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Hymn 386

Spirit of God, unseen as the wind, gentle as is the dove;

teach us the truth and help us believe, show us the Saviour’s love.

You spoke to us long, long ago,

gave us the written word, we read it still, needing its truth, through it God’s voice is heard.

Page 6: Founder s Day and Thinking Day Youth Organisations Servicerossorryparish.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Founders-Day-2017... · Be thou my wisdom, ... forgive us: save us and help

Spirit of God, unseen as the wind,

gentle as is the dove; teach us the truth and help us believe,

show us the Saviour’s love.

Without your help we fail our Lord, we cannot live his way;

we need your power, we need your strength, following Christ each day.

Spirit of God, unseen as the wind, gentle as is the dove;

teach us the truth and help us believe, show us the Saviour’s love.

2nd Reading Read by: Hannah Armstrong (Guide)

Mark 4: 26-34

Hear the Gospel of our Saviour Christ, according to Saint Mark, chapter 4, beginning to read at verse 26. Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ. 26 He also said, ‘This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces corn – first the stalk, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. 29 As soon as the corn is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.’ 30 Again he said, ‘What shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it? 31 It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth. 32 Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants, with such big branches that the birds can perch in its shade.’ 33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand. 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

which is called to be at the service of all people. Offertory Hymn 112

There is a Redeemer, Jesus, God’s own Son,

precious Lamb of God, Messiah, Holy One.

Thank you, O my Father, for giving us your Son, and leaving the Spirit

till the work on earth is done.

Jesus my Redeemer, name above all names,

And now let us join together in the prayer our Father taught us………

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Closing Prayers & Blessing HYMN 658 (and return of Flags)

One more step along the world I go, one more step along the world I go;

from the old things to the new keep me travelling along with you:

And it’s from the old I travel to the new;

keep me travelling along with you.

Round the corner of the world I turn, more and more about the world I learn;

all the new things that I see you’ll be looking at along with me:

As I travel through the bad and good, keep me travelling the way I should;

where I see no way to go you’ll be telling me the way, I know:

Give me courage when the world is rough, keep me loving though the world is tough;

leap and sing in all I do, keep me travelling along with you:

You are older than the world can be, you are younger than the life in me;

ever old and ever new, keep me travelling along with you:
