From the Editors:It is with much sorrow that after ten years and 15 years, respectively,

at the helm of the Mirage Messenger, Pat Repstien and Terri Cassidy have tendered their resignations from the Newspaper Committee.

While this may seem to be a sudden change, it comes about due to a continuing conflict with the future of the newspaper. The Board of Trustees has decided to add the Messenger to the Mirage website, an action with which we cannot agree. The Messenger will continue to be mailed to residents.

We wish to express our sincere thanks to all who have contributed to the success of our community newspaper. Open Meeting Minutes January 14, 2020

This is a synopsis (an overview) of the Mirage Board of Trustees open meeting. Official minutes are available at the Clubhouse or Mirage website.

Michelle Price called the meeting to order at 1 PM followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Claire Hastick, Chair of CORE, swore in the 2020 board members.Community Manager Michelle Price announced the 2020 Trustee Posi-

tions and Liaisons to the Committees. The liaisons are as follows:LIAISONS

There were no new homeowners present at the meeting. A motion was made by Marie Cutrona and seconded by Len Capuano to approve the De-cember 10, 2019 Open Meeting minutes. The motion carried with a 3-0 vote.

Dr. Brian Latwis, Ed.D. and Michael Hickey from the Barnegat School District thanked everyone for having them at the meeting. Dr. Latwis spoke briefly on the proposed reconfiguration or redistricting of the school district. The schools sincerely appreciate the involvement of the Mirage Community.

The Board introduced the first reading of Privacy Common Area Pro-cedure which states: “Trees planted by the developer in the common areas that were planted as privacy barriers and die will be inspected by the Land-scaping Committee. This committee person will go out to inspect the area, take necessary pictures and recommend if a replacement tree and/or shrub should be planted, the findings will go to the Board of Trustees. If the Board agrees that a replacement tree and/or shrub should be planted, the placement and type of tree shall be determined by a professional arborist or Down to Earth, in accordance with the existing rules and recommendations.” Draft copies will be available to any homeowner who is interested in receiving a copy at the front desk. This rule will be passed at the next open meeting on February 12, 2020, after questions from residents.

Helen McGreevy, liaison to the Ad-Hoc Resolution Committee, read a newly developed administrative procedure in order to strengthen legal rights and controls relating to rented units. This will allow the association to fine the homeowner more aggressively. The goal is not to collect money, but to resolve the violations.

A motion was made by Marie Cutrona and seconded by Len Capuano to memorialize the suggested street tree options. The motion carried with a 7-0 vote.

Les Loysen gave the Treasurer’s report for the month ending November 30, 2019.

The clubs announced their upcoming events.Arthur Sheiken announced that the Board will be looking into upgrad-

ing the billiards room. He will keep everyone informed on the progress. Arthur stated that through the Kelly Act, a Township is responsible for

reimbursing private communities for services that the Township normally provides. Art stated they met with the township administration, and he feels they have come to an agreement that is very fair. A formal agreement will be developed by the association attorney to include reimbursement for snow plowing, leaf pick up and garbage.

Helen McGreevy noted the Ad Hoc Resolution Review Committee for 2020 has been organized. It will be chaired by Marie Tansey along with Pam McClure, Claire Hastick, and Rich Polulak. Helen stated she is very happy that this group agreed to stay on this project and to help us through-out the year.

Marie Cutrona announced that the chorus needs more singers and specifically, more male singers. If any one is interested, please come out!

New Year’s Eve 2019Submitted by Marie Tansey

The Social Committee along with 220 guests celebrated the end of 2019 and welcomed in a New Year and decade, 2020. As the guests entered the ballroom they were each given a glass of champagne before going to their tables. The ballroom was beautifully decorated. Special thanks to Crickett Kersens and Rosemary Cannatelli for their outstanding artistic abilities.

As background music was played, the guests were served a four course meal catered and served by Sea Oaks. Music was provided by the Cameos who gave an outstanding performance and the party was in full swing.

The countdown began and we were able to see the famous New Year Ball drop in New York City on our large screen in the ballroom. (Thank you Technology Committee for making this possible.) As the New Year came in, a champagne toast was offered and the band played ‘Auld Lang Syne.’

Under the direction of Social Committee Chairman Nat Hochfelder, the Social Committee, and with the never ending assistance of Rebeca Mattiello, the New Year’s Eve 2019 event was enjoyed and is now a happy memory.

As we start our New Year and decade, the Social Committee promises 2020 to be an eventful year and make this decade the “New Roaring Twen-ties!”

News from the Office StaffSubmitted by Michelle Price

We can officially say goodbye to winter, because spring begins on March 20th! Even better, while we all know that there are never enough hours in the day, on March 8th, the Northern Hemisphere will “spring ahead,” thus resulting in an extra hour of sunlight.

It’s still cold and though we’ve lucked out so far, snow is always a pos-sibility. With that said, please don’t forget that the office is here to help you when needed. We have “snow emergency” forms that can be kept on file for those homeowners who have various life-threatening conditions, includ-ing, but not limited to, chemotherapy and/or radiation treatments, dialysis, transplant candidates, etc. However, if an emergency arises during a snow storm, please make sure to call 911. This will ensure that trained personnel are dispatched to assist you quickly and efficiently. If snow occurs, streets are plowed when snowfall reaches two (2) inches or more. Driveways are plowed when snowfall reaches four (4) inches or more.

Your Board of Trustees has been hard at work! Besides meeting with our major vendors, here’s just a few things they have accomplished since taking over in January:

• The Board has selected Becht Engineering to oversee the reconstruction of the parking lot. Work is expected to commence late April 2020.

• The Board is considering the renovation of the billiards room. Propos-als are being obtained.

• Wireless thermostats have been installed to control the HVAC in the clubhouse. This was a tremendous investment!

In other office news, for any homeowners requiring papers to be nota-rized, notary services will only be available on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-11 AM. Effective February 3rd, the front desk will close for one hour for lunch from 12:30-1:30 PM. Additionally, the phone book has been submitted to our publishing company and will be available for pickup shortly, probably by early April.

house is very limited. It is illegal to park in the handicapped area without the proper placards or plates and you are not allowed to park within the striped lines between spaces. For the safety of our residents, the Barnegat Police will be patrolling all parking areas surrounding the clubhouse. Please make sure you are not in violation as you will be subject to being tick-eted! Be Courteous! Please leave the second handicapped space open for wheelchair assisted vans only. If you are going on an extended trip or bus trip for the day, please use the large parking lot and not handicapped spaces closest to the clubhouse. Please SLOW DOWN in and around the clubhouse, especially at the exit!

******Irrigation Contract: The Down to Earth irrigation contract only cov-

ers turn-ons/turn-offs and general maintenance. The cost for repairing any damage caused by the homeowner or any changes in a homeowner’s irri-gation system is the homeowner’s responsibility. All requests for repair or system changes must come through the front desk. For those homeowners with individual irrigation systems, homeowners are responsible for the exterior maintenance of the lot and unit including appropriate watering of all sod, trees and plants. Please maintain your irrigation system in the “ON” position throughout the watering season in accordance with the Covenants and Restrictions.

******KHOV Homeowners: The number for the KHOV Warranty office is

800-428-2516. Please direct all warranty issues to this number.******Landscape Contract: Our landscape contract with Down to Earth cov-

ers mowing, fertilizing and edging. All other services are the homeowner’s responsibility, including your street trees. For a fee, landscapers will treat your lawn for fungus and will re-seed. They will also spray your trees for Bag and Oak Worms.

******Orientations: All new residents will be issued an identification card

(ID) and barcode after their orientation. Please contact the front desk for an appointment.

******Pets: Please clean up after your pet! Township Ordinance # 44-17 C2

-“Restraint of Dogs Outdoors” stipulates “The feces removed from the aforementioned designated area shall be disposed of by the person owning, harboring, keeping or in charge of any dog, cat or other animal.” In addition, Ordinance #44-22 – “Leash Requirements” stipulates “No person owning, keeping or harboring any dog shall suffer or permit it to be upon the public streets or in any of the public places of the township of Barnegat unless

such dog is accompanied by a person over the age of twelve (12) years and is securely confined and controlled by an adequate leash not more than six (6) feet long. Even if your pet is on your property, it must be on a leash. Pets are not permitted to run free.

******Selling Your Home: If you are selling your home, please notify the

management office. Upon sale of your home, the Title Company or Attorney must request a closing payoff statement from Bridget Heale at Taylor Man-agement Company, 973-267-9000. If a payoff statement is not requested, closing may be delayed. Also, we request ID badges be returned to the clubhouse front desk prior to closing.

******Township Information: If you would like to know about happenings

in the township, please visit www.barnegat.net or call 609-698-0080. ******Trash: Please use only black garbage bags for your refuse. White bags

will attract gulls which rip the bags apart and scatter the garbage. As per Township Ordinance you may put containers out after 6 PM the evening before your pick up day for your convenience. Recyclables are to be placed in containers, not in plastic bags alone or inside the containers. Plastic bags are not recyclable at the Ocean County Facility.

It is the blues stylings that provide the frame for Storm’s renditions. Her blues stylings embrace the root music she cherishes and provide a refreshing frame to other genres, such as classic jazz, pop and original composition. The Social Committee proudly announces “Songs in the Attic!” An amazing Billy Joel Tribute is coming to Mirage on Saturday, March 28th, conceived and presented with a tremendous amount of detail by singer/piano player, David Clark. David is a stunningly accurate pianist and lead vocalist along with having an eerily similar stage look to the Piano Man himself!
