MARY, MOTHER OF CHRIST, A GIFT TO THE CHURCH
A home without the Mother is not a home…the feminine soul is irreplaceable (nobody can take her place). God has
given the woman-mother some gifts of grace and truth that only she possesses. Above all, He has given her a profound sense of “giving herself”, to be for the others, to endure and have patience, and many times to have immense patience;
God has made her tender and firm. The mothers have a gift of the religious; that gift that makes them be close to God,
who is love, to a God who is life. They know how to elevate the house, the family, above all when there are pains and sorrows, because they participate of the compassion of God; for this reason the love that more resembles God’s is the
love of a good mother. They have learned that with God everything is easier and that her heart of mother, touches better
the one of her son/daughter, when her heart is united to the merciful Heart of God.
All that I say here is thinking about Mary, Jesus’ Mother, and my Mother (our Mother). We cannot understand a person
or a community or assembly of believers in the Son without the presence of Mary, the Mother of Jesus, the Mother of the Church, of the community, and the Mother of every human being. Thus has been expressed by the Church since the
Teacher gave Her for Mother of every human being. Thus has been expressed by the Church, since the Teacher gave
Her for Mother to the beloved disciple, from the Cross, and in the disciple, St. John to all of us. Her presence makes everything beautiful, clean, truthful, joyful and peaceful and strong. She is in the Church like the climate to live the faith
since Jesus lies in our hearts. The children of this incomparable Mother are happy because they know they are loved by
the most tender, kind and sweet of mothers. They feel they are protected by Her, because they live in their Mother’s bosom.
It has been said about the Catholics that we are happy people, joyful, optimistic, because we have a Mother Mary, that walks with us, that inspires us and she is happy with us when we are happy and she wipes our tears when we suffer. She
is that attractive luminous home that warms us up, that home that lights us, that calls us and congregates us. Where She
is there is life, where she is, there is nearness, where she is the Gospel of Jesus becomes stronger; the presence of the Spirit becomes stronger. Communities where Mary is present, are today in the church, communities with life
communities renewed.
It is sad to know that persons, communities, parishes etc…that have distances themselves from Mary, have become of
gray color, without life and happiness. She is the great sign, the great signal of Jesus’ presence. She manifests what a
person or community love Jesus, because in Jesus’ veins run human blood of Mary and divine blood of God.
How can we honor Mary, our Mother and demonstrate that love we have for Her? In the first place doing what pleases
her Son and avoiding what displeases Him. A person who really loves our Blessed Mother communicates with her. He or she talks frequently saying “Come Mother with me, accompany me during this day and all the days of my life: in my
prayers in my work in my rest. Early in the morning he or she salutes Her with three Hail Marys’ telling her how much
we love her and want to learn from her to love Jesus, her Son. These words or others, what our love for Her dictates. Let us ask her to help us live a Marian life to please our God and her. OH MARY, OUR MOTHER, PRAY FOR US!!!

FROM THE DESK OF CHARLES SILVAS
In the gospel for today, Jesus invites us to take His yoke
upon ourselves and we will find rest. Jesus’ statement implies
that we are overburdened and tired. Before we can completely
understand one of the ways this passage can be interpreted, we
must read it in the context of how Jesus intended it.
First, Jesus uses “the wise and the learned” to describe the
scribes and the Pharisees who have not accepted Jesus’
teachings and signs. However, it has been revealed to and
accepted by the “little ones”. This acceptance depends not only
on who the Father wishes to reveal them, but on those who are
open to receiving it and not the arrogant. Secondly, the scribes
and the Pharisees imposed laws on the people which were
burdensome, in which they themselves failed to follow, and
Jesus knew this.
In today’s gospel, Jesus invites us to follow Him with an open heart and with trust. Jesus invites us to
take the yoke of obedience to His word, in which we will find rest. Many times in life we can listen to the
wrong “voice”. We try to live according to standards that may be impossible to reach. Or we may even live
a life trying to please others. These eventually become a burden and will only lead to anxiety,
preoccupation, frustration, etc. Likewise, at times we may try to find our rest or security in other things
besides Christ. Eventually, these things will fall short of fulfilling their promise. The rest Christ invites us to
will allow us to live in peace, joy, love, and freedom.
---Charles Silvas
(Charles is a seminarian for the Diocese of Corpus Christi who will be staying and working with us throughout the summer. We ask that your remember Charles in your daily prayers as his discernment in his vocation continues and we pray for all those considering a Vocation in the Priesthood or Consecrated Life.)
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
Almighty and eternal God, in your unfailing love you provide
ministers for your Church. We pray for those whom you call to
serve the Diocese of Corpus Christi as priests. Inspire in them
a generous response. Grant them courage and vision to serve
your people May their lives and service call your people to
respond to the presence of your Spirit among us that, faithful
to the Gospel and hope of Jesus the Christ, we may: announce
glad tidings to the poor proclaim liberty to captives, set
prisoners free and renew the face of the earth. AMEN.
VACATION TIME
Fr. Naul will leave for vacation on
