Welcome to the 4th Annual Florida Women’s Conference. I believe it behooves organizations, and in particular the leaders of organizations, to look past their limits. This Conference offers an opportunity for you to observe, learn, network and hear different perspectives from a diverse mix of executives who have made the climb up the “corporate ladder.” You will gather a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise from some of the best female executives speaking on topics that will address the personal and professional challenges faced while successfully rising to the top in their respective organizations.

I encourage you to take the initiative to meet new colleagues, talk openly about today’s topics and exchange ideas. It is my hope that your experience today is rewarding and allows you to gain some insight to reflect on your own goals and status in an effort to help catapult you to the top in your own career development.

We sincerely appreciate your attendance today in support of the Florida Women’s Conference and National Diversity Council. I would like to thank all of our corporate sponsors, panelists, moderators, chairs, planning committee members, and volunteers. Without each of you, this event would not be a success.

WELCOME FROM THE NATIONAL DIVERSITY COUNCIL

WITH INTENTION”Introduction:Top executives will discuss how to advance within your career, providing strategies and insight on how to move forward and not get “stuck” or content in a position. “LIFE AT A CROSSROADS: FINDING THE COURAGE TO CHOOSE A DIFFERENT PATH”Introduction:Picture this – You are standing at a crossroads and you need to decide which road you should take. One road leads you right to the place you have always wanted to be, and others branch off in various directions. Yet others take you on detours, but end up leading you to an unanticipated, yet interesting, destination. Explore the crossroads of life, and hear insight by individuals who have found their inner courage, and imagination to take a different path. With humor and grace, these panelists will teach you what you can run from and what is just part of life.

“SUCCEEDING AT WORK & LIFE 24/7”Introduction:We continue to hear, read, and see that as women leaders we have to be able to “do it all” and do it all at the same time… be an effective career professional, wife, mother, sister, friend, and the list goes on. Recent studies and surveys have reported that, as women, we do not and should not feel guilty about not having to accomplish everything at the same time.

BREAKOUT SESSION IWORKSHOP: “EVERYDAY CHALLENGES: DEALING WITH AGING PARENTS -

BREAKOUT SESSION II10:40 a.m. - 11:40 a.m. “LESSONS FROM THE ANIMAL KINGDOM: STRATEGIES FOR MANAGING

CONFLICT”Introduction:We all know that a chameleon changes its color in different situations. When a chameleon comes face to face with a predator, its body turns into colors that are not well-recognized by the attacker. Avoidance, collaboration, compromise, and reconciliation are just a few behaviors that our animal friends instinctively demonstrate every day. Of course, human beings cannot change color when faced with a challenging situation or a conflict. Our panelists, however, can teach you a few things about managing everyday conflict using lessons from the animal kingdom.

BREAKOUT SESSION II10:40 a.m. - 11:40 a.m.

“THE POLITICS OF PROMOTION: WHAT IT TAKES FOR WOMEN TO GET AHEAD AND STAY AHEAD”Introducton:For many women - and men, “politics” is a dirty word when it comes to the workplace, but knowing who the most powerful influencers are, and ensuring that they know about you and your capabilities, is critical to both obtaining the jobs you want in the near term and being groomed for the role you have set as your ultimate goal. We know from research that having a network of individuals who have a say in talent decisions, including a sponsor who will be a direct advocate for you, is what helps women achieve a level playing field with men – who often benefit from naturally occurring affinities with predominantly male organization leaders. Are women less effective at organizational politics? What do they need to learn? Is there a way to use politics positively for yourself without creating negative impacts on others or the organization? Do women tend to use politics against each other? Our panelists will explore these questions and provide examples of how they have used political savvy to gain visibility, credibility, and champions among the leaders who matter, without compromising fairness and the quality of their social interactions at work.

“LEAN IN” ROUNDTABLE Sheryl Sandberg’s book Lean In has created quite a mix of perspectives across the business world. As COO of Facebook, Ms.Sandberg’s recent designation as one of the youngest female billionaires, may have sparked additional feedback as to what Sandberg believes gets in the way of some aspiring female leaders. This panel will open up dialogue and challenge thinking about a few concepts shared by Sandberg. Using a few quotes from the book, panelists will share ‘pro and con’ views as it relates to current opportunities to apply these concepts as working women.Moderator: Loretta Calvin, President & CEO, TPI Consulting Panelists: Felicia Brunson, Vice Mayor, City of West Park, Florida Donise Brown, Director, Corporate Counsel, Starbucks Coffee Company Marisa Diaz, Talent Acquisition Manager, Spirit Airlines

BREAKOUT SESSION III1:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. “SUCCESS NOW: ACTING TODAY INSTEAD OF WHEN I…”

Introduction:“Now” is a scary word. “Now” can feel too rushed and spontaneous. “Acting today instead of when I…” may at first sound and feel like we are setting ourselves up to fail; however, when opportunity comes knocking, it usually waits a few seconds for a response, then moves on to the next door. The key to success now is taking action and managing our time properly so we are prepared to act when opportunity does comes knocking!

“SMART WOMEN TAKE RISKS”Introducton:Many times women are presented with an incredible opportunity and freeze or even avoid the opportunity due to the risk involved. Why? Risk is frightening. The fear of failure, the loss of credibility and even the thought of standing on the frontline can hold an individual back. This panel discussion will answer the question “what is smart risk?” and will allow attendees to learn important risk-taking guidelines from women who have taken smart risk and achieved great success.

“WHAT WOMEN SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THEIR HEALTH”Introducton:Most women strive to balance a busy schedule that includes work, family, and themselves. This may lead to over-commitments, which can result in health issues that go undetected until they become chronic conditions. In this session, the panel will discuss what women should know about their health.
