Welcome to God’s House
When God speaks, he does so with authority. When he teaches, he teaches with
authority. When he heals, he has the authority of God himself, because he is God.
This is the comfort and strength we have when we center our lives around his Word.
Even the devil has to be quiet when confronted with the Gospel.
DIVINE SERVICE II
Opening Hymn Praise the one Who Breaks the Darkness CW #353 Praise the one who breaks the darkness with a liberating light;
Praise the one who frees the pris’ners, turning blindness into sight.
Praise the one who preached the gospel, healing ev’ry dread disease,
Calming storms and feeding thousands with the Father’s word of peace. Praise the one who blessed the children with a strong, yet gentle, word;
Praise the one who drove out demons with the piercing, two-edged sword.
Praise the one who brings cool water to the desert’s burning sand;
From this well comes living water, quenching thirst in ev’ry land. Let us praise the Word incarnate, Christ, who suffered in our place;
Jesus died and rose victorious that we may know God by grace.
Let us sing for joy and gladness, seeing what our God has done;
Let us praise the true Redeemer, praise the one who makes us one.
Invocation M: In the name of the Father and of the Son (+) and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
Confession M: Dear friends, let us approach God with a true heart and confess our sins, asking
him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us.
C: Lord of life, I confess that I am by nature dead in sin.
For faithless worrying and selfish pride,
For sins of habit and sins of choice,
For the evil I have done and the good I have failed to do,
You should cast me away from your presence forever.
O Lord, I am sorry for my sins. Forgive me, for Jesus’ sake.
Absolution M: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. In his great mercy, God
made us alive in Christ even when we were dead in our sins. Hear the word of
Christ through his called servant: I forgive you all your sins in the name of the
Father and of the Son (+) and of the Holy Spirit.
C: Amen.
Lord, Have Mercy Kyrie M: In peace, let us pray to the Lord.
For the well-being of all people everywhere, that they may receive from you all
they need to sustain body and life, hear our prayer, O Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy. M: For the spread of your life-giving gospel throughout the world, that all who are
lost in sin may be brought to faith in you, hear our prayer, O Christ.
C: Christ, have mercy. M: For patience and perseverance in this life, that we may not lose the hope of
heaven as we await your return, hear our prayer, O Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy. M: Lord of life, live in us that we may live for you.
C: Amen.
Glory Be to God Gloria in Excelsis
Prayer of the Day M: Let us pray.
Lord God, you know that we are surrounded by many dangers and that we often
stumble and fall. Strengthen us in body and mind, and bring us safely through all
temptations; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with
you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: Amen.
Scripture Reading Deuteronomy 18:15-20 15 The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from
your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him. 16 For this is what you asked of
the Lord your God at Horeb on
the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God
nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”
17 The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. 18 I will raise up for them a prophet like
you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words in his mouth. He will
tell them everything I command him. 19 I myself will call to account anyone who does
not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name. 20 But a prophet who
presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who
speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.”
Psalm 1 read responsively M: Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
C: or stand in the way of sinners. M: But his delight is in the law of the LORD
C: and on his law he meditates day and night. M: He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season
C: and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. M: Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
C: nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. M: For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
C: But the way of the wicked will perish.
Gospel Mark 1:21-28 After the announcement of the Gospel, the congregation says:
C: Glory be to you, O Lord. 21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the
synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he
taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. 23 Just then a
man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, 24 “What do
you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you
are—the Holy One of God!” 25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” 26 The impure spirit shook the
man violently and came out of him with a shriek.
27 The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new
teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey
him.” 28 News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
M: This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise be to you, O Christ.
Hymn Seek Where You May to Find a Way CW #395 Seek where you may to find a way that leads to your salvation.
My heart is stilled; on Christ I build—he is the one foundation.
His Word is sure; his works endure. He will o’erthrow my ev’ry foe;
Through him I more than conquer. Seek whom you may to be your stay; none can redeem his brother.
All helpers failed; this man prevailed, the God-Man, and none other.
The Servant-Lord our life restored. We’re justified, for he has died,
The guiltless for the guilty. My heart’s delight, my crown most bright, Jesus, you are forever.
Not wealth or pride or aught beside our bond of love shall sever.
You are my Lord; your precious Word shall be my guide what e’er betide.
Oh, teach me, Lord, to trust you!
Sermon Deuteronomy 18:15-20
This Prophet Speaks the Truth The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all
that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the
Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not
made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and
for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and
the virgin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under
Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in
accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right
hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and
his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the
Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and
glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian
and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We
look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayer of the Church
The Sacrament
M: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you. M: Lift up your hearts.
C: We lift them up to the Lord. M: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C: It is good and right so to do.
Prayer of Thanksgiving M: Blessed are you, O Lord of heaven and earth. We praise and thank you for
sending your Son, Jesus Christ, and we remember the great acts of love through
which he has ransomed us from sin, death, and the devil’s power.
By his incarnation, he became one with us.
By his perfect life, he fulfilled your holy will.
By his innocent death, he overcame hell.
By his rising from the grave, he opened heaven.
Invited by your grace and instructed by your Word, we approach your table with
repentant and joyful hearts. Strengthen us through Christ’s body and blood, and
preserve us in the true faith until we feast with him and all his ransomed people
in glory everlasting.
C: Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy
will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and
forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Words of Institution M: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he
had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat;
this is my (+) body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it,
all of you; this is my (+) blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you
for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of
me.”
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
C: Amen.

Distribution Hymn I Walk in Danger All the Way CW #431 I walk in danger all the way; the thought shall never leave me
That Satan, who has marked his prey, is plotting to deceive me.
This foe with hidden snares may seize me unawares
If e’er I fail to watch and pray; I walk in danger all the way. I pass through trials all the way, with sin and ills contending;
In patience I must bear each day the cross of God’s own sending.
Oft in adversity I know not where to flee
When storms of woe my soul dismay; I pass through trials all the way. Grim death pursues me all the way; nowhere I rest securely.
He comes by night, he comes by day, and takes his prey most surely.
A failing breath, and I in death’s strong grasp may lie
To face eternity today. Grim death pursues me all the way. I walk with angels all the way; they shield me and befriend me.
All Satan’s pow’r is held at bay when heav’nly hosts attend me.
They are my sure defense; all fear and sorrow, hence!
Unharmed by foes, do what they may, I walk with angels all the way. I walk with Jesus all the way; his guidance never fails me.
He takes my ev’ry fear away when Satan’s pow’r assails me,
And, by his footsteps led, my path I safely tread.
In spite of ills that threaten may, I walk with Jesus all the way. My walk is heav’nward all the way; await, my soul, the morrow,
When you farewell can gladly say to all your sin and sorrow.
All worldly pomp, begone! To heav’n I now press on.
For all the world I would not stay; my walk is heav’nward all the way.
After the distribution, the minister says:
M: The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in the
true faith until life everlasting. Depart in peace. Amen.
Closing Prayer M: We give you thanks, O Lord, for the foretaste of the heavenly banquet that you
have given us to eat and to drink in this sacrament. Through this gift you have
fed our faith, nourished our hope, and strengthened our love. By your Spirit help
us to live as your holy people until that day when you will receive us as your
guests at the wedding supper of the Lamb, who lives and reigns with you and
the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: Amen.
Blessing M: The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
The Lord look on you with favor and (+) give you peace.
C: Amen.
Closing Hymn Abide, O Dearest Jesus CW #333 Abide, O dearest Jesus, among us with your grace
That Satan may not harm us nor we to sin give place. Abide, O dear Redeemer, among us with your Word
And thus now and hereafter true peace and joy afford. Abide, O faithful Savior, among us with your love;
Grant steadfastness and help us to reach our home above.

Congratulations to Mitch & Chelsea Feucht on the birth of a baby boy, Levi Jonathan,
early Tuesday morning (January 26th). Lord’s Supper We believe that gathering together at God’s altar to receive Holy
Communion is a testimony of the confession and commitment we share as members
of the Lutheran Church. We ask guests who are not members of our Lutheran
denomination to speak with the pastor before joining us at the altar so all may have a
clear understanding of our faith and practice. Communion announcements Please stay in (or get into) the habit of checking off
your names on the communion announcement sheets when you walk into church.
Thank you . In Our Prayers Sandy Pamperin, recovering at home from a broken bone in her leg. New Bible Study Do you believe in global warming? Where do you stand on the
gender debates…or the theory of intelligent design (not exactly the same as
evolution)? Why does our church practice close(d) communion? Do you know what
the Bible says on these issues? Do you wish you could be better equipped to defend
why you believe what you believe? Our new Sunday bible study will help you do just
that…diving into some timely topics and what God has to say about them. Join us
Sunday mornings at 8:40 a.m. Sunday School Welcome back to the Kindergarten – 4th graders who could make it to
Sunday School today (Sunday). The story is entitled Jesus and the Centurion from
