JANUARY 29, 2017
Dear Parishioners,
The week of January 29 – February 5 is Catholic
Schools Week. Our three Cluster Parishes
sponsor Divine Providence Academy which is
one school with two campuses: St. Catherine’s Campus and
St. Joseph’s Campus. Pre-school through 5th grade are at St.
Catherine’s and Pre-school through 8th grade are at St.
Joseph’s. Students who complete their 8th grade studies are
able to take classes at West Catholic High School in Grand
Rapids and thus get a jump on their high school education.
Divine Providence Academy (DPA) is student centered. Each
student advances at his or her own pace. A student does not
move on until s/he has learned the material. Technology
allows for small computers on which students can access
online courses, thus eliminating the need for new textbooks
every year. Online courses are always up to date. Students
are clustered in grade groups: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 which allow them
to move freely between specific grades in different courses.
Thus a student may be doing 5th grade reading and 6th grade
social studies. It’s really quite fun when I walk into one or
other of the school buildings. There’s a certain buzz in the air.
It’s not noisy, and it’s not stone silent. It’s the sound of
students going about learning in an exciting and fun way. The
students at each campus have Mass once a week at which
they participate in the liturgical ministries. I hear the
Confessions of students during Advent and Lent. Another
joyful experience.
DPA is governed by a board of limited jurisdiction (BOD). This
means that the BOD has decision making
jurisdiction/authority to run the school. Their jurisdiction is
limited in that they cannot close the school or change it from
Catholic to something else, etc.
The BOD is also working on closing the budget deficit. I asked
them to have this done within three years (this being year
one). Accordingly, when they recently met and set the new
tuition rates for 2017 – 2018, they set a modest increase to
help reduce the budget deficit for next year. Cuts have been
made in expenditures to the point that no more cuts can be
made without sacrificing essential services. Our tuition rates
are among the lowest in the Diocese. THANK YOU to the BOD
for their serious efforts to maximize the effectiveness of DPA.
For more information, please see the letter from Bishop
Walkowiak in the bulletin this weekend and please visit the
DPA website: www.wingsdpa.org.
Thank you to the parents who sacrifice to give your child(ren)
a Catholic school education. And thank you to all our
parishioners for the moral and financial support which makes
DPA possible.
I love you, Fr. Fred

How to Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
We begin with the sign of the cross, and then pray:
The Our Father
The Hail Mary
The Apostles’ Creed
On the large beads, pray: “Eternal Father, I offer you the
Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of your dearly beloved
Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and
those of the whole world.”
On the 10 small beads, pray: “For the sake of His sorrowful
passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”
After five decades, the concluding doxology to be prayed
three times: “Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal
One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”
Words of JESUS - From the Diary of St. Faustina - I am
Love and Mercy itself. When a soul approaches Me with
trust, I fill it with such an abundance of graces that it cannot
contain them within itself, but radiates them to other souls.
FAMILY PERSPECTIVE by Bud Ozar It is in our family where we learn to be merciful and comforting to others. The Beatitudes of the Kingdom of God begin at home and depend on you. Parents lead the way.

Loving God,
Raise up dedicated leaders who will shepherd your people
and guide them to your Son. Give generous and willing
hearts to the seminarians of our Diocese who have heard
your call to live a life of service to the Church. Help us to
encourage and support them as they strive to become priests
who are models of discipleship, possessors of wisdom and
on fire with love for your people. We ask this through Christ
our Lord. Amen. We especially pray for:
