Notes from Fr. John T oday, we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Easter. In the Gospel, we are reminded that there is only one sheep gate and shepherd and that is Jesus Christ. Others may come who claim to be the shepherd, but only Jesus is the “One”. Oftentimes, we encounter distractions in life that take us away from the true shepherd; they may include money, possessions, power, or drugs to name a few. These will not bring true happiness though. A life lived in Christ is the way to happiness and eternal life. Today, we are celebrating the Sacrament of the Sick at all of our weekend masses. The Sacrament of the Sick is called upon to bring healing of body and spirit. Sometimes it can bring us peace. If you are in need of the sacrament or know someone who is, please bring them to any of our masses today. This past week, we celebrated both First Communion and Confirmation. We had 67 candidates for confirmation. Our candidates this year came from St. Agnes, St. Kieran, St. Irenaeus, the RCIA, and Marian Catholic High School. Bishop Perry celebrated the sacrament with us along with 5 priests, a deacon, and three choirs. It was quite a celebration. We count on the Holy Spirit each and every day of our lives. We are thankful for the work the students put in, and we thank their catechists teachers as well. We now pray that the gift of and teachers as well. We now pray that the gift of the Holy Spirit lead these students through life. On Thursday, May 25th, St. Agnes, St. Kieran, and St. Irenaeus will be hosting a presentation entitled “Gospel Without Borders”. The program will discuss present issues concerning immigration in our country at this time and where the Church and the Gospel fall on this debate. It is a chance for all of us to gather and reflect on where our own families have come from and what we can do to help create a just and fair immigration and refugee policy for our country. The program will begin at 6:30 and end at 8:00 PM here at St. Agnes. Check bulletin for more details. I would like to say thank you to the Knights of Columbus and Bill Barker and family for a great pasta dinner last Sunday. Along with many volunteers of all ages, the dinner went off without a hitch. The food was delicious, and the music was a fun addition. It was great seeing so many people working together to make the dinner a success. The dinner netted a little over $6,500. That should get us a lot of bells for the St. Kieran Choir. Great job every- one! Finally, congratulations to Louis Allessandrini on being promoted to Deputy Police Chief of New Lenox. We wish you well. THANK YOU! THE BELLS OF ST. KIERAN WILL SOON BE RINGING!

On behalf of the Knights of Columbus, Council #997, we would like to extend our thanks to all parishioners and others that participated in any way in the special fundraiser to purchase bells for the soon-to-be-formed St. Kieran Bell Choir. The Pasta Dinner event on April 30, 2017, was very successful and rewarding for everyone. This was only possible because all of us worked together as a team. Although, we do not have the final financial data at this time, we do know that enough funds were raised to purchase the bells. Our special thanks to the following: The Pasta Dinner Committee, the kitchen staff for donating and preparing all the food, the businesses that made monetary and gift donations, all the raffle basket donations, all individuals that provided for the sweet table, all people that contributed supplies, the individual that donated the entertainment, the ladies that decorated the hall, the adults and children that served during the dinner, those who helped set-up and clean-up the hall, those that donated the printing of tickets and advertisement, and last, but not least, the St. Kieran Parish Office Staff and all those who volunteered their time and support to this wonderful, successful event. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Baby Shower to Benefit the Women’s Center

During the month of May we remember our mothers and, in particular, our Blessed Mother who is honored at this time of year. To highlight and honor motherhood, the Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Baby Shower to benefit the mothers served by the Women’s Center. This Catholic-based support center helps mothers who have decided to give birth to their infants instead of opting for abortion. When mothers make this decision, the Women’s Center supplies anything needed to nurture their families.

The Baby Shower will take place all weekends in May. Articles may be left on the designated table for these donations that is in the church vestibule. You may, if you wish, pledge your donation in honor or in memory of a loved one by using the form below. Return the completed form with your donation and they will be placed in a basket to be brought forward in prayer during the Knights of Columbus Rosary Rally after the 10 AM on the last Sunday of the month, May 28. The names will also appear in our bulletin sometime during the first part of June.

Articles needed for the Baby Shower are listed below. The Women’s Center is requesting that clothing be limited to anything between zero and 18 months. The Women’s Center is located at 5116 North Cicero Avenue, Chicago IL 60630; they can be contacted at their office phone of (773) 794-1313 and email at [email protected] at any time. Thanks for your generosity in being a part of this event.
