THE CROSS OF CHRIST BROUGHT US SALVATION It is a good purpose for Christians to meditate on Jesus, the Messiah’s life, and see Him with our eyes of
faith, being born in an abandoned and cold stable, surrounded by animals; soon after his birth. Taken by his
parents to a distant country, to be protected from the persecution of King Herod. On the presentation inside
of the Temple, Mary and Joseph were happy to experience the beautiful encounter of old Simeon, with
them. Praising God for fulfilling His promise to him, to see in this, the Savior of the world… But the prediction
that followed, must have given Mary and Joseph a great sorrow. Simeon directed these words to them: “This
Child will be put as a sign of contradiction: many will believe in Him and accept Him and his doctrine as well,
but many others will reject Him, opposing themselves to Him and to his teachings.” Cfr. Luke 2, 33-35.. And
turning to Mary Simeon said: “And to you, a sword will pierce your soul,” these words from old Simeon,
must have certainly given Mary and Joseph great sorrow… And Mary must have had that prediction of a
sword piercing through her soul, impressed in her heart and soul, all her life, until the crucifixion and
Resurrection of Lord, her Son.
Jesus, in his Public Life, performed many miracles, especially healing many different sicknesses of people
that would come close to Him and asked His favor: To the blind, he gave sight, to the lepers, cleanness, to
the deaf, he gave them the ability to hear; Jesus resurrected several persons: the son of the widow of Naim,
the daughter of Jairo; Lazaro, the brother of Martha and Mary who had been four days in the tomb, and so
many more miracles that would be difficult to mention in this small article. Many people, as we said,
accepted Jesus, but the rulers or authority of the Temple, the scribes and Pharisees and other people tied up
to their possessions, never accepted Him and did everything they could to put Him to death.
Incredible acts of cruelty He suffered to free us from sin: beating Him, spitting on his face; dressing him as a
king of mockery; crowning His head with thorns, carrying a tremendous heavy cross on his shoulders that
made Him fall three times on the way to Calvary; nailing his hands and feet to the cross and opening His
heart with a soldier’s sword, after his death… Never will we suffer crosses that we cannot bear, but with
God’s grace and with our acceptance, the sufferings or crosses He permits in our daily lives, we do homage
to our beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and our crosses united to His Cross acquire a redeeming value
for ourselves and for our brethren.
What political leader or King of this earth has ever had a profound interest and love for the wellbeing of his
subjects? Who is the only King we can talk to and present Him our needs and petitions? Who is the One that
never disowns us and gives us the assurance that He is at our side and even if His answer is not like the one
that we would expect to receive, we know that all that He does for us is for our own good and for our
salvation… Let us ask Him to grant us an ever growing faith and love for Him and have us united to Him, till
He comes to take us with Him to paradise.

PASTORAL PLAN
The Diocese wants to hear everyone’s voice as
it creates a plan for our collective future. Could
you take 5 minutes to complete the short online
planning survey? The link is
https://ww.surveymonkey.com/r/DioCC-Plan
Also, we want to hear from non-active Catholics
as well as active Catholics. Could you please
share the survey link above with 5 Catholics you
know, especially if they are not minimally active
or not active in the Church? And then ask them
to pass it along to 5 more people they know?
Please complete the survey by Wed. March 28.
Thank you!
