A Christmas Prayer

Loving Father,

Help us remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds,

and worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world.

Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.

Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be

merry with clear hearts.

May Christmas morning make us happy to be your children, and

Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts,

forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake.

Amen!

GROWING IN FAITH/LITURGY

Catholic Charities will be renting the old rectory and using it in the same way as the Martha and Mary Home. It will provide living for 5 senior women—who have been waiting for affordable housing. It will be called the Holy Family Home. We would like to ask for your assistance helping fur-nish the rooms as we did on Henderson Street.

You can do an entire bedroom … bedding, dresser,

small refrigerator, towels, chair/desk, basket of toiletries, lamp, possibly curtains etc.

OR you might do part of a bedroom

OR gather several families to adopt-a-bedroom

OR there will be a list of specific items for the

kitchen and other rooms, as well.

You may be buying something new for your home and wish to donate your old furniture to the Holy Family Home.

Maybe you like to shop for used furniture bargains.

We will definitely need a Dining room table and chairs a sofa, chairs for living room etc.

We will also accept your cash donations to assist

us with buying specific items.

Our wish list will be available at the back of church!

Questions or for more information???? Contact Vicki at 503-774-1428 ext. 123

Introducing the Holy

Family Home

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR YOUR

ADVENT GENEROSITY !

We provided so many gifts to people in our community. They thank you from the bottom of their hearts!

Thank you!

Christmas, the word, has its roots in Christ Mass; it is the Mass in which we celebrate the birth of Christ. We exchange gifts with others to commemorate the same act done by the Magi to baby Jesus. These past days we intentionally moved through Advent and wait to celebrate Christmas as the Church does.

We made an Advent wreath light-ing the candles as we progress through the weeks of Advent.

We said special Advent prayers after lighting the candle before we eat supper together.

Our Christmas tree was set up near the end of Advent hopefully only a few days before Christmas Day.

Now there is the crèche—waiting for the arrival of the Baby Jesus.

For many people, Christmas sadly ends on Christmas Day. Some people take down their decorations on December 26. Retailers are al-ready moving into the season of returns. Catholics can rejoice because we know that on December 25 a 12 day celebration of Christmas begins! We begin on Christmas Day and end 12 days later on the Epiphany, hence the Twelve Days of Christmas and the song. So give it a try this year. The anticipation of Christmas can be very fun—so now actually celebrate all that you have been waiting for. Join us for one of our four Masses—pause by the crib—pray for peace throughout the world—ring out the Good News by your words and actions! May this Christmas Season—ALL 12 Days—be filled with the love, peace and joy only the Christ Child can bring!

Merry Christmas and

a truly Blessed New Year!

Did you know that Holy Family Catholic school intention-ally cultivates Catholic Identity in its school culture. To pre-pare for the coming of Christ, the school has celebrated in a variety of ways. All students performed in the Christmas pro-gram on Tuesday the 18

th. Students created and shared Ad-

vent Wreaths. In Spanish, students learned to sing Las Po-sadas, a traditional song. Kids created Christmas cards for prayer partners and “Advent Angels.” All classes participated in St. Vincent DePaul food box donations. Many volunteered to participate in the “Living Nativity.” HFCS students know and show the teachings of the Catholic Church.
