PUBLIC SPEAKING CLUB

This year our public speaking club has really made a name for itself. Our teams have been doing exceptionally well across a number of eisteddfods. Earlier this year, four of our teams made it all the way to provincial levels in the Allegretto Provincial Eisteddfod. One grade 10 team came 4th with an impressive 87%, our grade 12 team grabbed 2nd place with an incredible 92%, and one grade 10 team took home 1st place with an astounding 94% overall. This first place team, including Suzette Klingenberg, Mbali Rani, Ofentse Rakgogo and Amy Irving, will be honoured for their accomplishments later this year at the esteemed Allegretto Gala Evening. Our public speakers did not stop there! On the 19 September our eight teams ranging from grade 8 to grade 11, competed in the National Eisteddfod of South Africa. All of our groups did phenomenally well, with four taking home gold (one grade 8, one grade 9 and both grade 10 groups) and four taking home the ever elusive diplomas (one grade 8, one grade 9 and both grade 11 groups).

Congratulations to all participants on your amazing accomplishments this season.

Fourways High School’s Sports Secretary Miss. K Bekker has made the South African Indoor Cricket Ladies World Cup Squad.

Congratulations to Grade 10 pupil Aimee Muha for winning a silver medal in Kata (individual participation including the technical side of karate, “fight with imaginary opponent”) and winning two bronze medals in Kata and Kumite (fight with an opponent) at KWF karate national championships which took place in Potchefstroom on the 25th of August 2018. Aimee was the youngest competitor.

Congratulations to Luke Edwards (Grade 8 pupil) on being awarded Provincial Colours, representing the Golden Lions U14 Rugby Team for 2018. They will take part in the Inter Provincial Tournament in Natal, at Kings Park Stadium between the 30th of September 2018 and the 6th of October 2018. We wish Luke all the best in his rugby endeavours.

Spirit at Fourways 2018 (By Ms. C Brown)

School spirit starts with pride. I am so proud to have been part of the spirit wave that hit Fourways. I want to take this opportunity to thank the spirit team, dance corps, drum corps and drone flyers for helping us during this season. To all of you, Fourways, thank you, for giving it your all. I couldn’t be prouder. The other school might have an empty cup, but they sure don’t have your spirit!

Congratulations to Sayegh Van Der Merwe and Fezile Mthombeni who played for the South Gauteng Witsies team in the SAHA U21 IPT tournament in Pretoria.

The team had an excellent 3-2 win over KZN Coastals A on the 5th of September 2018.

We have 4 teams entered and they are having a superb time. They are currently learning that being speculative in a bear market is earning real returns.

The U16A volleyball girls won the gold medal at the AISJ volleyball tournament held on the 22 September 2018. The U19A volleyball girls won the silver medal at the AISJ volleyball tournament losing narrowly to the hosts in the final by 2 sets to 1, held on the 22nd of September 2018.

Sutherland Soccer Tournament

Under 14's won 1, drew 1 and lost 2 matches and finished 3rd in their pool.
