April 1997PART OF) FAMILY RETURNS TO THE UKIc ha s been wonderful to be back home in th e USA Wehave enjoyed our visits with you ~ our supportersandwe praisethe Lord for all the encouragement and kindnessshown to us throughout this furlough. Spending timewith our extended family has been a greatjoy. Ourchildren have been thoroughly spoiled by family friends, and supporters. But nowour furlough is drawing to aclose.

On March 13, Debbie, Autumn, David, and Samuelreturned to England. They needed to return at this timesoAutumn and David could take their year-end exams. Before wecamehomeon furlough the teachers at theBritish high school gave Debbie the materials andassignments that Autumn and David would need topreparefor these exams. So,wehave been home-schoolingin America using the Britisheducational systemDebbie and the children are also searching for a houseforus to rent. I have remained in the USA to completeoursupport raising.Angela was with us for the first ten weeks ofour furloughmid-June to lateAugust. But because of the demands ofher school classes (she's in Advanced or A-Levels),she hadto return to Great Britain long beforethe restof us. Wea re s o thankful that sh e wa s abl e t o come back to Amer icaand also spend one weekwith usduring the Christmasholiday.

Of course, the other important news regarding Angela isthe announcement of her engagement to bemarried toGraham Richards. You mayremember Grahamas oneofthe Britishyoung men weworkedwith in Great Britain. While Graham finished his degree at the University of

Birmingham and hisdiplomaat Springdale College heministered alongside Larry myself andour families atBromsgrove Christian Church. He andAngela planto bemarried in England on September 6, 1997 at BromsgroveChristian. Angela and Graham are not sending out formalinvitations, but extend an invitation to all to come to thewedding.

    SUPPORT STI LL NEEDED

As God provides forour needs in the following threewaysI will join my family in Great Britain,First: Obviously, weareengaged in a primarilyspiritualbattle. First and foremost, we need renewed and newcommitments from congregations and individuals whowillpray forour family membersmonthly, weekly or daily.Second: While still on the field, with about one year to gobefore furlough, one of our major supporting congregations had to significantly reduce its support. Thissituation, coupledwith increased costs in Great Britain andinflation, required us to find additional monthly financialprovision. At the beginning of our furlough, we needed2,700 in additional monthly support. But, praisetheLord, through the increased givingof our present supporting congregations and through newsupporting churchesorindividuals, the Lord hasalreadyprovided 1,600 of thatamount. Consequently, even though wehavecome a longway in the last fewmonths, we still need to increaseourpresent level of monthly support byabout 1,100.Th ird : In order to reoutfit us to return as missionaries toGreat Britain, we have some needs that can be metthrough one-time gifts or instance v^e need to purchasea computer, a printer, and somesoftware. We also need to

When we left America about four an done-halfyears ago to complete thechurch plant of the BromsgroveChristian Church in Great Britain, wewent in partnership with the LarryandDebbie Kineman family. We left forEngland about eight months before theKinemans. Consequently, aswefurloughed they remained in England tocomplete the work. The Kinemansbegintheiryear-long furlough in May1997. Please be praying for them. Our family has a twofold plan for ournext t erm o f service on th e field:1)We believe our nextstep isto start anewcongregation in a different location. We hope to do this in the same countyWorcestershire) as the BromsgroveChurch, but in a newcommunity.2) Also, wewill assist {train and encourage) other British people to begin newcongregations in the communities inwhich they live. Before furlough, wealong with some of our other CMPpartners ~ wereable to begin this processwith four Britishcouples or individuals.1am pleased to report that BromsgroveChristian Church continues to gainstrength from week toweek. There are

now three British elders in place. The believers arelearning to take financial responsibility for their ownleadership and operating costs. And they are sacrificiallyparticipating ~ individually and corporately in theworldwide mission ofGod. Furthermore, it is with greatjoy thatI am able to report thatPeter Billingham (one ofthe three British elders) was introduced to the BromsgroveChristian Church as the unanimous choice of Larry, theelders, and myself) to be voted on as the congregation snew preaching minister. Larry reported that Peter sintroduction was followed by a lengthy, thunderousapplause Praise the Lord

With mixed emotions our family ends thisfurloughand returns to the field. As I saidearl ier, we will be involved in a brand new workin a new area for us) ofGreat Britain. We willmultiply ourselves through the training ofBritishmen and women in new church planting. So, weare excited about the work ahead. Nevertheless,it is always difficult to beseparated from thosewe love at home in America.Keep us in yourprayers. Liftus up daily beforethe Lord. If you, yourcongregation, or yourfriends can help uswith a monthly or one-timefinancial gift, please let us know.AsGodprovides, I willjoin myfamily in the work of theLord in Great Britain soon. Dear Friend,Asyouknow, Debbie Foust andthe children lefttheUS onMarch 13 forGreat Britain sothechildrencould be present for their year-end exams. Tom remained in theUS to continue working withsupporting partners until monthly budget needs wereunderwritten.Tom andDebbie are enthusiastic about identifying the location for their new church plant in England. On June 12 Tom returned to England for avisit ofatleast four weeks, to join the family and focus onchurch plant research. This new outreach makes itcrucial for the Fousts to have a fully fundedbudget.

There are churches who are currently considering partnership with the Fousts, and we are praying fordecisions thatwill make itunnecessary for him to makea retum trip tothe US.We are confident that the Foust family is where God wants them in ministry. God has been pouringout provision for this ministry. During this furlough, the Fousts needed 2,700 in additional monthlysupport. They are within 500of this amount. One-time funds are coming intoward one-timepurchases and the deficit in their account, which resulted from the shortage in monthly support.Tom recently wrote:From thebeginning, theover-arching goalfortheCMF-Great Britain FieldTeam hasbeento assist the British Christians in beginningachurch-plantingmovement in the UK . Our partners inministry, Larry and Debbie Kineman flew (with their children) to America for their furlough on May22. The retum ofthe Kinemans marked the transition ofthe BromsgroveChristian Church to Britishleadership.During this next term ofservice, our family will start anew congregation, as well as assist, encourage, and train the British leaders who are involved invarious ministries inGreat Britain, including church planting. These are the twin pillars ofourwork during this next term.We are convinced that we are engaged in aspiritual battle. Consequently, thosecongregations and individuals who pray for our family members daily, weekly, ormonthly or whosupport us with their finances join us in this ministry as surely as we are joining with the Lord JesusChrist. We thank you for your partnership with us and its high calling. Please join us in prayingabout the completion ofthe budget needs. Ifyou know someone who mightwant to partner with theFousts intheirministry to England, please letme know.In Him, ,ilOuvvJC.Naomi:tor ofChurchDevelopmentand Communication-P.S. CMF INTERNATIONAL Prayer Newsletter

November 1997Dear FriendsWe are veryexcitedabout the possibilities that God has putbefore us. We lookforward to all thewonderful things thatHe has in store. The adventure that our family hasembarked on is one that we have never been on before. W eare always waiting to see what tomorrow will hold. Letmesharewith you someof theways that God isdirecting us.

Oneof thewondetfiil sights that greeted iis upon ourarrival backin England, thecanalsand canal boats.

We cameback to England because we believed our workinEnglandwas not done. God's handwas in the finding ofthis house. The first time I looked at the house, I decided itwa s to o small. I looked for tw o more weeks and cou ld notfind another four-bedroom housewithin our budget. Iwent back and had a second look at this house to see if wecould make do for a short time until I could find a biggerhouse. Only aftermovinginto the housedid I realize thatGod had put us here fora reason. We had been praying, alongwith allofour prayerwarriors, for God to open theheartsof the people in England and forthem to be receptive. I was thinking ofreceptivity to the Gospel. God knewthat weneededthe people to bereceptive to something else aswell: tisI have not felt so welco me in a n a re a ofEngland asI havein this neighborhood.I never cease to be amazed at how G odanswers our prayers evenwhenwearenot surewhat weareasking for.W e live a t th e end of a dead end street. In th e seven houses around us there ar esixteen children, ranging in ages fromnewborn to 18 years old. Our childrenhave friends living right across the street.D a vi d a nd A u tu m n b o th c om m en te dthat thiswas the first place thatwehadlived w h er e t he re h ad b ee n kids their

age living anywhere near. Relationships with our neighborsare developing. We have starteda highschool Bible study. Two of thegirls from our streetattended the first meeting. The lawin this country requires religious education to be taught aspart of thecurriculum in theschools. This has opened theopportunity for usto share a biblical view with the youngpeople withwhomweareworking. Even though the titleof the class Religious Education, the biblical view almost never brought up. They study things likeabortion, birth control, and euthanasiaas part of the religiouseducation course. Most of the time, theymust write apaper inwhich theymust presentmore than oneview ofthe topic. Our first Bible studywas on abortion, and the girls werevery interested in the conversation. It was the first time thatthey had heard the biblicalview. A fewof the things thatthey hadheard aboutabortion at school were: it okay ifyouare too young to have a baby, ifyour career is on theline, or asa form of birth control. We gave them a differentview on the topic. Psalm 139was our Scripture reference. The discussion was interestingand gave the girls much tothink about. Theyare looking forward to nextweek.Weare also having worship services inour home. This hasbeenan adjustment for me.I wasnot used to havingsuch asmall group toworship with. I have adjusted, and nowenjoyit very much. I have a better understanding of theScripture, whenever two ormore ofyougatherinmy name, there I am aba. Matthew 18:20 One of thegirls from theBible studyhasvisited, aswell as a few other visitors. Wehave not done this on a regular basis because we have beenvisiting other churches. We will start doing regular services

in th e near future.Along with our church-planting efforts, weworkwith several Britishcoupleswho are starting newchurches. Being partof the CMF team gives ussupport and accountability. The British peoplewho are ou t there on the front lines often feel as iftheyareall by themselves, and often becomediscouraged. We visit, encourage, help, and prayforand with thesepeople.Springdale College (the onlyChristianchurch/church of Christ college in Great Britain)is presently preparinga newdegree program inmis sion s to b e o ff er ed in affiliation w it h t heUniversity of Birmingham. Alongwith severalothers, Tom assists Dennis Lindsay(the principal, meaningpresident, of the college in developingthis newBachelor ofArts in MissionTheology. This new degree program shows all the promise ofattractingmanystudents from around the world to be

trained in missions work to modern Western culture.

Several people have asked us whether Princess Diana sdeath has had any effect on the people here and the waythey are thinking about death. Aswith any untimelydeath, people want to knowwhy Why did this happen tosomeonewho was in the primeof her life? She did somuch good for people. People in this country aredefinitely looking for answers to these questions and manyothers. They want to believe that it only takes being agood person to get to heaven They are looking and theydon t even knowwhat it is they are looking for People areaskingquestions, and we hope they will listento usas werespond. Pleasecontinue to pray with us about thereceptivityof the people here to the Gospel. In Him
