PRESIDENT’S LETTER
by Jeff Janssen ([email protected], 309-846-0250) Why I love Fox Point... Following the season of Valentines and love, I find myself becoming sentimental and overwhelmed with a feeling of heartfelt appreciation. Of course, my three-year-old melts my heart every time that she asks me to be her Valentine. Or it may have something to do with the flowers and hearts in almost every store that I enter. So please bear with me as I entitle this letter "Why I love Fox Point." Recently I was granted the privilege and honor to serve as your Fox Point Board president. Within a week of taking on this new role, I received a call from a homeowner who found an adorable dog wandering down Lake Shore Drive. This homeowner showed compassion and love as she cared for her temporary houseguest. She went beyond the call of duty when she contacted the local shelter to determine the pup’s ID chip that led to the successful return to its family. The same weekend I witnessed teenagers joyfully cleaning off the snow from driveways belonging to neighbors who may have been challenged to clean it off themselves. I even had a Norman Rockwell moment with the pleasurable distraction of watching ice skaters out my home office window. The winter season has brought its fair share of teeth chattering moments, but this has not dampened the warmth in the hearts of our Fox Point neighbors. I trust warmer temperatures are in our near future and with that heightened activities as we enjoy all our community has to offer. As we anticipate spring, we will see even more of our Fox Point Board plans become realities as our volunteers spring (pun intended) into action. Become reacquainted with your neighbors through such outstanding social activities as the recent Progressive Dinner and the upcoming Card Party. The Fox Point entrances on Valley will have a brand new look as we begin work on the landscaping. Our beautiful pool will be enhanced as we explore new pool furniture. The Lake Committee will continue to work on our lake plan by reinforcing the shoreline of the island in Lake Louise. Tennis will blossom with class offerings and another tournament challenge with Biltmore. The Safety & Welfare chair will strive to increase awareness of safety issues, and there may even be the possibility of some special classes for our neighborhood. Our new Civic Affairs chair plans on taking a run at refreshing our website. And, with home improvement season right around the corner, please submit your Architecture requests to be reviewed by the Board. My sincere appreciation to all who contribute to making Fox Point a very special place to live and grow our families! Please contact me if I can be of service to you.

CONDOLENCES TO THE ENRIGHT FAMILY
The Fox Point community extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Joan Enright, who passed away in February. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Joan’s husband Jim, their children and grandchildren.
BOARD REPORT: TREASURY By Mike Uhran ([email protected])
Attached to this newsletter are the 2015 financial statements. The Association continues to operate in a fiscally responsible manner with both the Operating and Reserve accounts coming in under budget. On the Operating side, the pool was the largest expense at $94,450, followed by Common Grounds at $38,100, Administration (accounting, insurance, etc.) at $34,845 and Lake at $24,100. Board members have been working in their respective areas to lock in rates via long-term contracts where it makes sense. On the Reserve side, we incurred the largest expense in Fox Point history with the completion of the pool. The $1,696,917 project came in $21,083 under budget and was paid in full from our reserve account. Other significant reserve expenses included landscaping improvements and replacement of some asphalt paths. Account balances were strong with $53,512 in the Operating Fund and $435,797 in Reserves. Fox Point carries no debt. The proposed 2016 Operating and Reserve budgets were approved at the January 2016 Board meeting. These were published in the December 2015 newsletter. Please let me know if you need a copy. Annual dues increased $24 to $950 per household. The statements were mailed mid-February and payments
are due by March 31. If you did not receive your invoice, let me know and I can arrange for a new one to be issued. Please send your payments to:

BOARD REPORT: CIVIC AFFAIRS
by Lynn Douglas ([email protected]) Weekly yard waste pick up will resume on Friday, March 18. We can now include approved food scrap waste with our yard waste:
• Fruits
• Vegetables
• Bread/Grains
• Pasta/Cereal • Dairy (no liquids)
• Egg Shells
• Coffee Grinds/Tea Leaves
But don’t even think about including the following:
• Meat, Poultry, Seafood, Bones, Shells
• Diapers, Pet litter or waste • Liquids/Grease
• Glass, Plastics, Styrofoam
• Paper Products
• Teabags/coffee Filters
Do not put plastic bags into your yard waste bin as it could cause Groot to reject the entire can. I plan on storing my approved food scrap waste in a “slop bucket” (plastic pail with lid) in my garage and dumping it into the yard waste can on Thursday night, before I set the can out, after sundown. A final note on trash: Groot will pick up on Good Friday, March 25.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: FOX POINT NEWS EDITOR Do you enjoy reading Fox Point News? Here’s your chance to volunteer for your community from the comfort of your own home. It’s a great way to meet neighbors and be among the first to know about everything going on in our community. Job requirements: Computer/email access and a little bit of spare time. No professional
editing/writing experience needed. The current editor will train the new editor so you are fully up to speed. Interested? Contact Jennifer Frighetto at [email protected] or 847.702.5304 with any questions.

BOARD REPORT: COMMON GROUNDS
by Mike Moran ([email protected], 847.344.9365)
It is hard to believe that spring is almost here! Plans are moving forward with the landscape replacement at the north and south side entrances at Valley; it will begin as soon as the weather allows. The landscapers tell me they will be installing the new plantings for about a week. They will also return to the pool and tennis court area replacing anything that did not make it through the winter months. Schmechtig’s maintenance division will also be out in the coming month to manage spring cleanup. Once they complete the spring cleanup they will manage our weekly landscape maintenance. They did a great job last year and I am confident that they will do an even better job this year. There will also be a crew out in the next month cutting down and removing five or six dead ash trees from lot D where Meadow Way dead ends. I try to keep an eye on all of Fox Point’s common areas but if you see that they are missing something on a regular basis, please contact me and I will get it resolved.
BOARD REPORT: ARCHITECTURE
by Marc Muhs ([email protected]) As spring rolls around and home improvement season begins, please remember to contact me to submit your application. My plan is to have an updated form on our Fox Point website (www.foxpoint.org) very soon; in the meantime please use the form there now. Please don't forget to ask all your neighbors in the site line of the project to sign off as a courtesy.

BOARD REPORT: SOCIAL By Christopher Kitzman ([email protected]) As I enter my sixth year on the Fox Point Board, I want to give a shout out to all of the past Social chairs, event chairs, and the upstanding volunteers who have given their time, energy, and resources to this wonderful aspect of our community. I look forward to working with our event chairs and learning about our social operations. I will do my best to continue this wonderful tradition of Social chair and I welcome all of the benefits that come with meeting each one of you.
