The RoHS Directive stands for "the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment". This directive bans the placing of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants on the EU market since July 1st,2006. Certification of meeting the above directive for the usage of the above six substances should also be provided.

As the leading manufacturing services provider, Foxconn has insisted on environmental protection of "maintaining a green enterprise through the prevention and control of pollution, continuous reduction of waste, provision of environmentally-friendly products, energy saving". Being an avocate of environmental issues and a group devoting to green manufacturing technology innovations, Full compliance of regulations, laws, and customers requirements about environmental protection is guaranteed. In addition, effective control of raw materials, manufacturing process, and delivery is secured. Continuous improvement of products is conducted to ensure the complete avoidance of the banned substances. Furthermore, promotion of applying the concept of green supply chain to upstream suppliers is held on a constant basis.

Guidelines concerning Foxconn SER policy

Foxconn SER guideline entails environmental protection and energy saving, safety and law compliance, health and hygiene, continuous improvement, benefiting the society, and sustainable management. This guideline concerns at least the following seven aspects:

a. Green enterprise guideline: pollution prevention and control, continuous waste reduction, provision of environmentally-friendly products, energy saving, and earth protection.

b. Safety guideline: safety first, and prevention focus.

c. Health and hygiene guideline: prevention foremost, and combination of prevention and control.

d. Employment relationship guideline: law compliance and caring of the employees.
