FP NEWSLETTER

We have now reached the last quarter of the year.  Officially fall and soon enough winter.  It seems like the year has flown by.  Actually it seems that all the years are flying by.  Hopefully the winter will fly by.

So what do we need to do to speed that process along?  Here are some suggestions.·         Join a gym.·         Take an evening class; learn a craft·         Take music lessons·         Join a bowling league·         Take scuba diving lessons·         Design a computer program·         Take a holidayI'm immediately jumping to the last thing on this list.  Thailand for 3 weeks.  When I get back I might join a bowling league.

I got a new phone some time back and got a tablet as a loyalty present (I guess) and haven't been able to figure out what to do with it.  But now with a trip to Asia, I have learnt that this tablet will become fairly important in my journey.  I'm thinking Netflix, the internet and I'm planning on downloading, or is it streaming,  a really good golf game.  This will be a first for me.  30 years ago, I took a trip to the Pacific and Asia, and as I think about the technology today, I am amazed I survived.  For days and possibly a week nobody in my life knew exactly where I was.  They might have known where I was headed with my infrequent phone calls, but nothing else.  I had to go to an American Express Office for cash and  letters from family were received.  I had to buy the international copy of USA Today to get American news and hockey scores.  I realize as I'm writing this I haven't seen that newspaper for years.  I had a Walkman to provide music and books to read to occupy myself.  Oh yeah, and a deck of cards for solitaire.  Now with the smart phone, I will have instant contact with people whether by texting or talking on WhatsApp.  Really quite amazing to think about.  The world has become smaller and more accessible, although I'm not sure that's a good thing.  I don't remember being unhappy without these luxuries.  And it sure has created many first world problems.

For those of you who have chosen to ride winter out here, I strongly suggest getting out and listening to some live music.  It's easy to take it for granted as we are spoiled here in White Rock with all the music around us, but we do need to remember how lucky we are and how talented these people are.

Stay dry, and let's all try to get our Christmas shopping done early this year.

ROCK N ROLL FACTS Musicians born on October 9:

John Lennon John Entwistle

Jackson Browne Giles Martin (son of Beatles producer George Martin)

Sean Lennon (son of John Lennon)

I first heard The Rolling’s Stones album “Exile on Main Street” probably sometime in the early/mid 80’s. I wasn’t too enamoured of it at first, it sounded quite raw compared to the more polished populars songs that I knew of theirs, but as the years have gone by, it has become a favourite of mine. When the album came out in 1972, like-wise, music critiques in general were slow to warm up to the album as with anything that is new and different. The album is now considered one of the greats of the rock genre.

The Stones in Exile by D.M. White

Initially, recordings for the album were done in the basement of Keith Richard’s 16-room mansion, Villa Nellcôte, which he rented while he and other band members lived in France as tax exiles from England. Conditions there for recording were remembered as uncomfortable and sporadic. Unconventional ways of working and many hangers-on. Fires in the kitchen and people passed out in the garden. The album was finished in Los Angeles after some Stones and their friends wore out their welcome in the south of France.

There is a select offering of acoustic and electric songs with a rock, gospel, R & B and country influence. This double album consists of 18 tracks and the 2010 re-issue having an extra 11 bonus tracks culled from the session archives. The album cover is a collage of oddities designed by John Van Hamersveld. There was really only one hit single, the grooving "Tumbling Dice". A film of the creation of the album called “Stones in Exile" was also released in 2010. If you haven’t already, then I suggest you give it a spin.

FP FOOD FOR THOUGHT All quotes by Deepak Chopra

The secret of attraction is to love yourself.

The use of love is to heal. When it flows without effort from the depth of the self, love creates health.

Always go with your passions. Never ask yourself if it’s realistic or not.

If you surrender to uncertainty, nothing goes wrong.
