April 6 DAY 1: DEPART SAN DIEGO TO ITALY

Depart for our flights to Italy.

April 7 DAY 2: ROME - WELCOME TO ITALY

We are met by our tour guide and transferred to St. Paul

Outside the Walls for a visit. We then travel to the Irish

Franciscan College of Sant’ Isidoro for Mass. Settle into the

hotel for a Welcome Dinner, including a choice of beverages,

and a well- deserved night of rest. Overnight in Rome.

April 8 DAY 3: ROME – PAPAL AUDIENCE

This morning we are thrilled at the prospect of being blessed by

Pope Francis during the Papal Audience. We then embark on a

tour visiting the Papal Basilicas of St. Mary Major and St.

John Lateran and the Holy Stairs. We see the major

monuments of Rome including the Coliseum which we visit,

Piazza Venezia, Via Vento, Aurelian Wall and more. Dinner

and overnight in Rome. (B.D.)

April 9 DAY 4: ROME Following breakfast we tour the Vatican Museum including

Raphael Rooms and the Sistine Chapel, followed by a visit to

St. Peter’s Basilica. We depart for Mass at the Catacombs of

St. Calisto. Upon return to Rome we begin a walking tour from

the Trevi Fountain to the Spanish Steps, on to the Pantheon

and finally to the magnificent Piazza Navona, where the sched-

uled day ends. Dinner is on your own. Overnight in Rome. (B.)

April 10 DAY 5: ROME-RIETI VALLEY-ASSISI Saint Francis loved the Rieti Valley which he made his home

along with Assisi and La Verna. Since then, this splendid plain

amidst the hills and mountains, has been known as the Sacred

Valley. We visit medieval Rieti with its palaces and churches

and Greccio, known to the world as the Franciscan Bethlehem.

It was here, in the winter of 1223, that St. Francis thought of

commemorating the Birth of the Infant Christ at the approach of

the Feast of the Nativity, and on Christmas Eve night, the world

saw its first Crib with an ox and an ass standing round a manger

where the priest celebrated the Mass. We celebrate Holy Mass

here. Our day continues to Fonte Colombo known as the Fran-

ciscan Sinai, here in 1223, St. Francis received the final Rule of

the Friars Minor from Christ. Overnight in Assisi. (B.D.)

April 11 DAY 6: ASSISI

In the morning we visit the holy sites of Assisi, including the

beautiful Church of St. Clare, which to this day houses her

incorrupt body, the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, the

Porziuncola Chapel, site of the thornless rose bush and the

Basilica of St. Francis where we celebrate Mass at the tomb of

the saint. Overnight in Assisi. (B.D.)

April 12 DAY 7: ASSISI

Today we depart with our guide and coach to begin the day with

Mass at the Carceri Hermitage ,a quiet place of contemplation

and isolation, so loved by St. Francis. Later we visit the church

and convent of San Damiano where St. Francis received his

calling whilevpraying. Here again, we have time to reflect be-

fore finishing the day at the place known as the Oratory of St.

Francis or San Francesco Piccolo. Overnight in Assisi. (B.D.)

April 13 DAY 8: FLORENCE

Early departure from Assisi for Mass and a visit of La Verna,

where Francis received the stigmata. We then begin our journey

through Tuscany for the city, considered by many to be the cul-

tural heart of Italy. We arrive in Florence and visit some of the

important sites including the Duomo, the Baptistery designed

by Giotto, and Santo Croce, the famous church where Dante,

Michelangelo and Leonardo Da Vinci are buried. See the beauti-

ful statue of “David” by Michelangelo at the Accademia. Din-

ner and overnight at the hotel in Florence. (B.D.)

April 14 DAY 9: FLORENCE We have a day at leisure in Florence to enjoy this beautiful city.

You may choose to visit the famed Uffizi Gallery or take an op-

tional tour to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower. Overnight in Flor-

ence with dinner on your own. (B.)

April 15 DAY 10: FLORENCE- SIENA-ROME This morning we depart Florence for Siena, to celebrate Mass

at the Cathedral of St. Dominic, which houses the relics of St.

Catherine, as well as magnificent works of art. In the afternoon,

following lunch, we continue back to Rome. Our accommoda-

tions are near the airport so that we can have a good night’s rest

for our flight in the morning. Farewell dinner at the hotel with

beverages included. Overnight at Rome airport. (B. Special

April 16 DAY 11: RETURN TO SAN DIEGO Transfer to the airport for your flight back home. Breakfast will

be at the hotel before departure. (B.)

Airline seating and special requests: We do not reserve specific seats with the airline. You may change your seat at the airport prior

Tour Cancellation Policy: From up to 60 days prior to departure a reservation fee of $ 500.00 is withheld. Within 60 days of

departure all payments are non-refundable regardless of reason for cancellations. All cancellations must be in writing. Unused portions

of the trip are not refundable. Travel insurance is highly recommended on this tour. All coverage and pricing information is available

upon request. Cost of insurance begins at $259.00. Pricing: All prices are based on payment by cash or check. Pricing is based on rate
