Fr. Bob’s Briefs Today’s first reading from the Book of Exodus presents to us bread and birds. Bread on the ground and birds made me recall something from my childhood. The image of bread on the ground and birds reminded me of a lesson I learned from my mom when I was younger. It was lesson that was repeated in our home repeatedly. Sometimes, we would have old bread, left over in the kitchen. If the old bread was not used for French toast, homemade bread crumbs, or as an ingredient in another food (such as sznycle wieprzowe, a breaded, ground meat, round patty baked on a greased pan in the oven), but the old bread was never to be thrown out in the garbage. Mom taught us that bread was a staple food, the basic food for life. As such, bread was to be treated with respect. If bread was left over, and it was not to be thrown away in the garbage, what to do with it? Mom would always send my brother or me with the bag of old bread, crumpled into tiny pieces, to the empty field across our

house, and we would sprinkle bread pieces on the ground for the birds to eat. The rationale behind mom’s lesson was that bread was the basic block of nourishment. If bread could no longer nourish our bodies, at least it would nourish the bodies of another creature, like the birds. Bread sustains life. It is a basic food to eat. In the first reading today, we hear from the Book of Exodus, in which the Israelites are wandering in the wilderness. There is nothing to eat in a desert. So, while wandering in the desert, the Israelites were hungry, and in their hunger, they grumble against God. God hears that the Israelites are hungry, and He sends them food. What food does God send? Manna: bread from heaven. Bread falls down upon the Israelites camp every morning. In this beautiful image, we see this bread from heaven falling down like snow. Some Israelites are holding their containers up, so that they could be filled with the falling manna. Others are gathering the bread from heaven from the ground into their containers. God sends the Israelites bread because bread is indispensable to eat. God could have sent the Israelites any food, but God sends them bread because is a basic food staple. In the gospel, Jesus builds on this understanding of bread. John the Evangelist records Jesus saying, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled. Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst.” Jesus calls himself the bread of life. What does this mean? Just as bread is a basic food that sustains physical life, Jesus is the vital food that sustains and gives eternal life. Without bread, our bodies die. Without Jesus, our souls perish. Thus, Jesus is the true manna. He is the true bread come down from heaven that gives and sustains life. If physical bread is to be treated with respect and care, and not thrown out (as I was taught by mom and she was taught by her family), how much more should we treat with respect Jesus, the true bread of life? Through faith, Jesus feeds us. How well do we take care of the faith of Jesus that we have received? Have we thrown out our Catholic faith in favor of what is culturally popular instead? Do we show respect and care for Jesus, or do we disrespect the Holy Name of Jesus in speech, using His name in vain? Do we respect His holy presence in church, in the Eucharist? Do we throw out Jesus, the bread of life, by not saying our morning or evening prayers, not spending time with our Lord in prayer, not reading Scripture, not reading religious books, or ignoring Sunday worship and rest? Just as the Israelites opened their containers to be filled with manna, bread from heaven, let us open the containers of our body and soul to be filled with Jesus, the true bread from heaven. Please pray for all who suffer from hunger around the world and for anyone who has fallen away from the faith. May our Blessed Mother, Undoer of Knots, help us with maternal care and St. Joseph pray for us.

La primera lectura de hoy del libro de Éxodo nos presenta pan y aves. La imagen del pan en el suelo y las aves me recordaron algo de mi infancia, una lección que aprendí de mi mamá cuando era más joven. Fue la lección que se repitió en nuestra casa en varias ocasiones. A veces, teníamos pan viejo, que quedaba en la cocina. Si el pan viejo no se utilizaba para pan tostado francés, pan rallado casero, o como ingrediente en otro alimento (como wieprzowe sznycle, una carne molida empanizada, re-donda horneada en un molde engrasado en el horno), el pan viejo nunca era arrojado a la basura. Ma-má nos enseñó que el pan era un alimento básico para la vida. Como tal, el pan debía ser tratado con respeto. Si quedaba pan y no era para ser tirado a la basura, ¿qué hacer con él? Mamá siempre envia-ría a mi hermano o a mí con la bolsa de pan viejo, en pequeños pedazos, para el campo vacío a través de nuestra casa y regábamos pedazos de pan en el suelo para que las aves se lo comieran. La razón

de la lección de mamá era que el pan era el elemento básico de la alimentación. Sin el pan ya no podríamos alimentar nuestros cuerpos, así al menos sería para nutrir los cuerpos de otra criatura, como los pájaros. El pan sostiene la vida. Es un alimento básico para comer. En la primera lectura de hoy, escuchamos en el libro del Éxodo, que los israelitas están vagando en el desierto. No hay nada para comer en un desierto. Así, mientras deambulaban por el desierto, los israelitas tenían hambre y en su hambre, se quejaban contra Dios. Dios escucha que los israelitas tienen hambre y les envía alimentos. ¿Qué alimentos les envía Dios? Maná: pan del cielo. El pan cae sobre el campamento de Israel cada mañana. En esta imagen hermosa, vemos este pan del cielo cayendo como nieve. Algunos israelitas están sosteniendo sus envases, para que pu-dieran ser llenados con el maná que caía. Otros reúnen el pan del cielo, con el pan caído en la tierra y lo ponen en sus envases. Dios envió pan a los israelitas porque el pan es indispensable para comer. Dios pudo haber enviado a los israelitas cualquier alimento, pero Dios les envía pan porque es un alimento básico. En el Evangelio, Jesús se basa en esta comprensión de pan. Juan el evangelista muestra a Jesús diciendo: "En verdad, en verdad os digo, que me buscáis, no porque habéis visto las señales, sino porque habéis comido de los panes y se llenaron. Trabajad, no por la comida que perece, sino por el alimento que perdura para la vida eterna, que el Hijo del Hombre os dará. Yo soy el pan de vida; el que viene a Mí no tendrá hambre y el que cree en Mí nunca tendrá sed." Jesús se llama a sí mismo “El Pan de Vida”. Qué significa esto? Así como el pan es un alimento básico que sustenta la vida física, Jesús es el alimento vital que sostiene y da vida eterna. Sin pan, nuestros cuerpos mueren. Sin Jesús, nuestras almas perecen. Por lo tanto, Jesús es el ver-dadero maná. Él es el verdadero pan bajado del cielo que da y sostiene la vida. Si el pan físico debe ser tratado con respeto y cuidado y no tirado (como me enseñó mamá y a ella le enseñó su familia), ¿cuánto más deberíamos tratar con respecto a Jesús, el verdadero pan de vida? A través de la fe, Jesús nos ali-menta. ¿Qué tan bien cuidamos la fe de Jesús que hemos recibido? ¿Hemos lanzado nuestra fe católica a favor de lo que es culturalmente muy popular en su lugar? ¿Mostramos respeto y cuidado de Jesús, o le faltamos el respeto al Santo Nombre de Jesús en conversaciones, utilizando su nombre en vano? ¿Respetamos su santa presencia en la iglesia, en la Eucaristía? ¿Tiramos a Jesús, el pan de la vida, por no decir nuestras oraciones de la mañana o por la noche, no pasar tiempo con el Señor en la oración, no leer la Escritura, no leer libros religiosos, o ignorar el culto del domingo y descan-sar? Así como los israelitas abrieron sus envases para ser llenados con el maná, el pan del cielo, vamos a abrir los enva-ses de nuestro cuerpo y alma para ser llenados de Jesús, el verdadero pan del cielo. Por favor oren por todos los que sufren de hambre en el mundo y por cualquier persona que ha perdido la fe. Que nues-tra Madre Santísima, Desatadora de Nudos, nos ayude con la atención materna y San José ruegue para nosotros.

Z biurka Ks. Proboszcza Dzisiejsze pierwsze czytanie z Księgi Wyjścia przedstawia nam obraz chleba i ptaki. Chleb na ziemi i ptaki przypomina mnie coś z mojego dzieciństwa. Chleb na ziemi i ptaki przypomnia mi lekcji od mojej mamy, kiedy byłem młodszy. To była lekcja, którą powtarzała się w naszym domu kilkakrot-nie. Zdarzało się, że stary chleb pozostał w kuchni dla mamy. Jeśli mielismy starego chleba, mama używała ten chleb zrobic coś innego, jak n.p. francuskie tosty, domowe bułki tartej, lub jako składnik innej żywności (n.p. sznycle wieprzowe, okrągły panierowane mięsa mielonego, pieczony na wysmarowanej patelni w piekarniku), ale starego chleba nigdy nie było wyrzucony do śmieci! Mama nauczyła nas, że chleb jest podstawowym pożywieniem dla życia. Dlatego muslieslmy zawsze szanować chleba. Jeśli pozostało stary chelb i nie wolno bylo go wyrzucić do śmieci, co z nim mie-lismy zrobić? Mama zawsze wysyłała mnie albo mojego brata z torbą starego chleba, gniecionego na

drobne kawałki, na pustym polu około naszego domu, i tam posypowalismy kawałki chleba na ziemi dla ptakow. Powodem tego działania było to, że chleb jest podstawowym elementem pożywienia. Jeśli ten stary chleb juz nie będzie dłużej karmiło naszego ciała, przynajmniej choc nakarmi ciała innego stworzenia, tak jak ptaki.

Chleb podtrzymuje życie. Jest to podstawowy pokarm do jedzenia. W dzisiejszym pierwszym czytaniu słyszymy z Księgi Wyjścia, jak Izraelici wędrują na pustyni. Nie ma niczego do jedzenia na pustyni. Podczas wędrówki przez pustynię, Izraelici byli głodni, i z powodu głodu, oni narzekali przeciwko Bogu. Bóg wysłuchał że Izraelici są głodni, i On wysyłał im coś do jedzenia. Co wysłał im Pan Bog? Manna: chleb z nieba. Chleb spada na obóz Izraelitów każdego ranka. W tym pięknym obrazie widzimy jak ten chleb z nieba spada jak śnieg. Niektórzy Izraelici trzymają swoich pojemników do góry, zeby ta spadający chleb mog napełnić ich pojemników. Inni zbierają chleb z nieba od ziemi do ich pojemników. Bóg posyła chleb Izraelitów, ponieważ chleb jest niezbędny do jedzenia. Bóg mógł wysłać Izraelitom jakiekolwiek żywności, ale Bóg posyłał im chleba, ponieważ chleb jest podstawowym pożywie-niem.

W Ewangelii Jezus opiera się na tym zrozumieniem chleba i mowi do ludzi: “Zaprawdę, zaprawdę powiadam wam: Szukacie Mnie nie dlatego, że widzieliście znaki, ale dlatego, że jedliście chleb do sytości. Troszczcie się nie o ten pokarm, który ginie, ale o ten, który trwa na wieki, a który da wam Syn Człowieczy. Jam jest chleb życia. Kto do Mnie przychodzi, nie będzie łaknął; a kto we Mnie wierzy, nigdy pragnąć nie będzie”. Jezus nazywa siebie chlebem życia. Co to znaczy? Tak jak chleb jest podstawowym pokarmem, który podtrzymuje życie fizyczne, Jezus jest podstawowym pokarmem który utrzymuje i daje życie wieczne. Bez chleba, nasze ciało umiera. Bez Jezusa, nasze dusze umieraj i giną. Więc, Jezus jest prawdziwą manną. On jest prawdziwym chlebem, który zstąpił z nieba, który daje i pod-trzymuje życie. Jeśli mamy traktować chleba z szacunkiem i troską, i nie wyr-zucić do smieci (tak jak umama nasz ucziła, a ona nauczyla z jej rodziny), to o ileż więcej powinniśmy traktować z szacunkiem Jezusa, prawdziwym chlebem życia? Przez wiarę, Jezus karmi nas. Jak dobrze dbamy i opiekujemy tę wiarę które ot-rzymaliśmy od Jezusa? Czy my wyrzucamy naszą wiarę katolicką na rzeczy ktore są tymczasowo popularne na swiecie? Czy mamy szacunek do Jezusa, czy też brak szacunku do Najświętszego Imienia Jezus w mowie, używając jego imienia bez troski? Czy szanujemy Jego świętej obecności w kościele, w Eucharystii? Czy wyrzucamy Jezusa, Chleb życia, kiedy my nie modlimy rano lub wieczorem, ignorując Jezusa? Kiedy nie spędzamy czas z naszym Panem ale wybieramy coś innego oprócz Boga? Kiedy nie czytamy Pismo Swięte albo inne książki religijnych? Kiedy ignorujemy niedzielą odpoczynek z Panem Bogiem i pracujemy? Podobnie jak Izraelici otworzyły swoje pojemniki żeby one mogli być napełnione z manną, chlebem z nieba, otwórzmy pojemniki naszego ciała i duszy, abysmy mogli być napełnioni z Jezusem, prawdziwym chlebem z nieba. Proszę pomódilć się za wszystkich, którzy cierpią z powodu głodu na całym świecie i dla tych ktorzy spadli z dala od wiary. Święta Maryjo Rozwiązująca Węzły, miej nas zawsze w Swej opiece. FOUR CATECHISTS NEEDED Love Teaching? Love talking about Jesus? We have the perfect job for you! Our Religious Educa on program is seeking four (4) catechists for the upcoming year. Current openings include 2nd, 7th and 8th grades and possibly another younger grade. Now is the me to consider being generous with your me, and passionate about your faith by sharing it with our students. Typically classes meet three (3) mes a month and the week off usually corresponds with a holiday. Classes meet Sunday mornings (September through the first week of May) from 8:30-9:25 and then all students and catechists a end the 9:30 a.m. Mass. Textbooks and the curriculum are based on 24 sessions and are divided accordingly. There are no teaching qualifica ons needed, but each catechist must a end a Virtus training session, and file an e-Apps applica on for volunteers, if he or she has not already done so. Virtus training sessions are o en held at school and are administered by our principal, Mr. Mane . More informa on will be given to those interested.
