Saint Christopher Parish | JANUARY 28, 2018 | Bearing Christ to the Community
Faith Formation
Confirmation Classes for Adults –"Be sealed
with the Gift of the Holy Spirit." It is never too late to receive the Grace of this important Sacrament. It is not unusual that one not have received the Sacrament of Confirmation as a young person. For this reason, St. Christopher parish offers a preparation program for adults of all ages. The preparation for adults is quite different from that of children or young teens. The process is one of a small-group, adult learning experience. The focus of the program is to connect the practice of our Catholic Faith to our experiences in our everyday lives. For many who participate in this program, it is an opportunity to see, for the first time, the faith of the Church with an adult understanding. Ideas formed in childhood are challenged, developed and nuanced. The resources are varied and many and they include a scripture study of the Book of Acts, The US Catholic Catechism for Adults, the Bible and some of the Vatican II documents. Participants will look at how their image of God affects the way they are in relationship with Him and spend significant time connecting daily life with the underlying meaning of incarnation and Eucharist. Classes begin February 11, 2018.
RCIA - We offer an opportunity to come together in a
small group to learn more about our faith. Sessions focus on the teachings and experience of Church and prepare individuals to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during the Easter season. You are welcome to participate in the process with your questions, your insights and your faith story in a warm accepting setting. For information please contact Glory Kramer. Bible Study – The Bible Timeline series continues!
We learn about the Bible stories we've heard over and over, and we learn a few surprises along the way. Join the group at any time. Sundays 9:30-10:30 am in the undercroft; Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 pm in the PLC.
Catechist Formation – ALMI (Archdiocese of
Louisville Ministry Institute) is dedicated to offering Faith Formation opportunities in a variety of formats including online learning, media options, live courses, independent learning, group learning, and more. To learn about becoming a certified catechist please visit: formedinfaith.wordpress.com/catechist-certification/ or contact: [email protected]
Social Concern & Outreach Homebound Ministry- Those requesting homebound visits for communion and/or confessions should contact the parish office to schedule a time to be visited.
Food Collection/Coat Collection- The parish collects canned and dry food as a mission to help support Helping Hand of Hope. Donations of items can be made in the Parish Office Mon-Thurs from 9-5, or during the weekend Mass (box located in the cry room). During the colder season, you are also encouraged to donated coats/jackets to benefit those who are without.
Marriage Moments- "They brought to [Jesus] all who were ill...and He cured many who were sick" (Mark 1:32-34). This is the season of sickness. Some people like to be pampered when they are sick. Others like to be left alone. What comforts your spouse when they don't feel well?
Parenting Pointers- Feb. 2 is Ground Hog Day. Legend has it that these cute furry critters can predict the weather. Talk with your kids about what kind of weather they like best. If they are old enough, discuss climate change and how we humans can reduce our carbon footprint. *Marriage Moments and Parenting Pointers are provided by Archdiocese of Louisville Family Ministry Office and Susan Vogt (www.SusanVogt.net)

WORSHIP
READING 1 DT 18: 15-20 Moses spoke to all the people, saying:
"A prophet like me will the LORD, your God, raise up for you from among your own kin;
to him you shall listen. This is exactly what you requested of the LORD, your God, at Horeb on the day of the assembly, when you said, 'Let us not again hear the voice of the LORD, our God, nor see this great fire any more, lest we die.' And the LORD said to me, 'This was well said. I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their kin, and will put my words into his mouth;
he shall tell them all that I command him. Whoever will not listen to my words which he speaks in my name, I myself will make him answer for it. But if a prophet presumes to speak in my name
an oracle that I have not commanded him to speak, or speaks in the name of other gods, he shall die.'"
RESPONSORIAL PSALM PS 95 If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
READING 2 1 COR 7:32-35 Brothers and sisters: I should like you to be free of anxieties. An unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord. But a married man is anxious about the things of the world, how he may please his wife, and he is divided. An unmarried woman or a virgin is anxious about the things of the Lord, so that she may be holy in both body and spirit.
A married woman, on the other hand, is anxious about the things of the world, how she may please her husband. I am telling you this for your own benefit, not to impose a restraint upon you, but for the sake of propriety
and adherence to the Lord without distraction.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION MK 4:16 The people who sit in darkness have seen a great light;
on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death, light has arisen.
HYMNS Sat Sun Processional: 488 412 Offertory: 672 672 Recessional: 554 554
GOSPEL MK 1:21-28 Then they came to Capernaum, and on the sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and taught. The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?
Have you come to destroy us?
I know who you are—the Holy One of God!" Jesus rebuked him and said, "Quiet! Come out of him!"
The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him. All were amazed and asked one another, "What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him." His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee.
