Earned the nickname “ Prime Minister of the Underworld” due to his reputation of befriending the “right people”

Died: February 18, 1973 .

WHO WAS FRANK COSTELLO ?

Frank Costello was raised in East Harlem, New York

By the age of 24, he had been in jail, committed robberies, & joined a local street gang

After jail Costello decided he would use his brains to make money as a criminal.

COSTELLO'S EARLY YEARS

• Costello associated himself with criminals who started at a young age

•Due to Lucky Lucianos imprisonment, Costello became the leader of the Luciano Crime from 1937 to 1957

• The Luciano Crime family expanded under Costello’s leadership

RISE TO POWER

•After a failed “hit” Costello gave up his empire to live the rest of his life in peace.

FALL FROM GRACE

•Costello was a negotiator & a smooth talker

•Costello always left his hands clean, leaving others to do his dirty work
