Background:Frankie was born and raised in London, more specifically East London: Hackney, born on the 19th September 1988, making him 27 years old. Our London born crime boss didn’t have it easy as a child. His father, Frankie Rodgers Snr., left his mother alone with his mother and his older brother Johnny, after being continuously abusive to all 3. Frankie’s life of crime spiralled soon after his 11th birthday, as Johnny introduced him into the mafia bosses as a means of protection and obtaining currency. In present times, at only 27, Frankie is one of the leading figures in the British Mafia.

Clothing:Frankie is commonly seen wearing only the most expensive of suits, looking as dapper as he can. His favourite brands are only those of the highest fashion, such as Versace, Hugo Boss and Armani. He has a large collection of watches, however his favourite is one which his great uncle left for him, after he was tragically murdered by a rival gang. Frankie still aims to this day to avenge his death.

Subvert/Confirm:Frankie’s choice of wardrobe converts to the gangster genre, as does his luxury, violent lifestyle. However Frankie also subverts to the genre. This is because these type of characters are usually Italian-American, whereas Frankie is English. The also does so with the setting, being set in Frankie’s home town of London.

Protagonist/Antagonist:The film follows Frankie as he grows up, and later in his life as he tries to finally avenge the death of his beloved uncle. Frankie is the protagonist of the movie. This conforms to the genre, however this subverts to the common codes and conventions of cinema in general. This because dangerous criminals like Frankie would usually be portrayed as the antagonist in other genres. However this is a film which glorifies the gangster lifestyle, showing it from the mobster’s point of view.
